  • @Xuxa16 thank you so much. This video actually helped me to upgrade from XP to 7.

  • He means will windows be a trail if i dont tipe in the CD key

  • So, you never used the laplink pc mover program that's in your description?

  • How do you have the nerve to say, "this nifty little side menu" - that's only been in Mac OS X since Lord only knows when! And then you say "BooooM!" a la Steve Jobs! Blasphemy.

  • I installed windows 7 yesterday using clean install, i had vista but i wanted to make a complete restart. when i chose clean it said that i had an installed operating system and that it was going to be moved to a folder called windows.old

when the install was succesfull all my programs was gone but when i open the hardrive C, everything in my download folder etc is still there.

    1. did i do a clean install or did i accidently press upgrade?

    2. can i simply delete the folder called windows.old?

  • do you have yo use a product key when installing windows 7?

  • does that mean that my Program Files folder will be saved and j can again transfer these files again into new installed Windows 7 program files and j wont lose a thing??? Do tell, cuz j hawe alot of games, and all other programs that j hardly get to install them...

  • @stalker992 What do you mean you hardly get to install them? Listen you will have to install all of your programs over again. There is no getting around this. All of your data associated with those programs will be saved but the programs have to be installed again

  • @Xuxa16 hey um does updating it to windows 7 format my c: drive or d: drive or both???

  • @stalker992 I understand what you mean. The Program files folder is saved in windows.old and you can browse to that foler and run your programs from there.Trust me it works.

  • @stalker992 so let me this str8.... J can simply now insert Windows 7 cd and install and all of my programs and games shall be saved in windows.old and j wont lose a thing?? • @langlebl Well thank you! I love Smooth Jazz

  • All of the programs that get uninstalled will I keep the installer.exe's so I don't have to redownload them all?

  • @291Halo You could keep them but I wouldnt, Windows 7 has specific installers anyway. Just re-download them

  • so does this work with any type of windows 7

p.s does WOW go faster? :P

  • @cluelessfilms420 It works with any version of Windows 7. I dont know if WOW goes faster

  • I have a windows xp. Ram: 512mb CPU: Intel Pentium 4 HDD:22 gb Do you think windows 7 will work?

  • @tech4lifeproductions Your RAM needs a 1GB. For more info, go to /windows(dot)microsoft(dot)com/systemrequirements ("dot" is replacing from ".")

  • @jason24568 ok thanks, but how much ram is the limit for a 32 bit os like mine

  • @tech4lifeproductions The max ram for 32 bit Windows Home Premium installation is 4GB

  • @tech4lifeproductions I would up your Ram before installing, you are AT the minimum spec for RAM which is 512, at least have 1 GB

  • @Xuxa16 ok thanks, but how much ram is the max for a 32 bit os?

  • can u send me the link to the trial version. i wanna test it first. plz an thx.

  • @danieldvs100 What would you like the trial of exactly?

  • if u have 32 bit on XP but you want to upgrade to 7 64 bit will this be possible? an if so, will it mess anything up?

  • @danieldvs100 If you have a 32bit system you cannot upgrade to a 64bit OS

  • one question where do i but the old fiels before i but the windows 7 dick in .

just let the fails be there ?

  • i did this but my screen resulution is screwed up

  • Not 100% backed up, it can have problems, and I know that that is the windows 7 desktop, I'm not surprised. Windows.old is not a partition, and it wastes memory by all the other Windows system files, poor 7 you tormenting it.

Id rather do a clean install without that when you have it portability.

  • i have a question what do you mean by its a good idea to reinstall it ????

  • why xuxa?

  • @mrlauts Why what?

  • I have a question.

Let's say I have 2 drives (C:/ and D:/),and I install Windows 7 in C:/ (where XP was previously),will my other drive (D:/) still be fine?

  • @hyperdbz yess.

  • This is a nice video! But if you want to save your programs that were installed as a 32-bit version of your old XP to W7 and W7 uses 64-bit version can be a problem? The reason is that the 32-bit program is not designed for an operating system with 64-bit.

  • how much gig u have xuxa?

  • hey, I was wondering, i have my OS on my local C drive, is it possible when installing windows 7 to just reformat partition C rather than the other two with it? If that is possible, it would be much easier for me to transfer through because most of my games and such are stored at my F: drive and most of my documents are in my C drive. I'm going to copy my C: drive to an external if this option is possible. THanks for posting this video up, it's really helpful. Cheers

  • i got a question. I heard from people that when you upgrade you need to upgrade from same version like: xp pro->7 pro. is it true?

  • @crappyasiana No, you can upgrade to any Windows 7 edition

  • @Xuxa16 nice

  • @crappyasiana I know right xD

  • I love the way windows 7 animate the windows when it pops up!

  • Can I do this WITHOUT the CD??

  • @Akanti1 doing it without the CD with be illegal :3

  • wow thanks dude

  • @daddyt66 No problem, thanks for watching

  • This is the other Aaron, It is a little harder to do this if you have the old S.P. of XP, and a little slower if you have Vista, but the upgrade is much easier than Mac would make you think.

  • I wonder if the Windows 8 (Beta Coming in 2012) final version will have the same process?

  • @standingcam I hope so! I want to be a part of the Windows 8 Beta test. Hopefully it has some social network integration built in. Where did you get Beta Test in 2012 from?

  • do you have to reinstall your drives?

  • You said "drives" and I assume you mean "drivers". If you did mean drivers, the only drivers you'll need to concern yourself with are for peripherals Windows 7 doesn't have..which isn't very many.

If you have an HP j6400 or better, get the latest drivers from HP support. What Windows 7 has will work but HP did not deliver a full driver set at launch.

  • Thanks a lot guys great video! One question though, you showed that all your images etc were kept there but what about files I have created on dreamweaver etc? Will they still be kept, as I have some important website files on there? Also will the software like dreamweaver still be on the windows 7 computer? Then all I would have to do is install?

    Thanks a lot!

  • If its saved somewhere by 'my docs' or any windows related folders such as program files, windows folder it should be there. It is not backing up lets say folder you created in like C:\MYSTUFF\Dreamweaver projects\files*.*

  • The answer is yes.

Since you used the word "important" be sure to back those up separately to a thumb drive or email them to your Gmail (email) address. I'm a believer in covering ones ass so do as a failsafe but they will be there as well.

  • Yes i get that the files are saved but what about the programs li ms office, ccleaner, limewire, google earth, divix coverter, power iso, skype, nero 7...

  • Programs have to be reinstalled

  • Saved. Again, Windows 7 moves that entire group of files and folders to it's own space so nothing is lost. Because those programs are associated with a registry that no longer exists, the programs won't run properly but files created by those programs will remain where they are.

Then after you reinstall those programs, it's a simple drag and drop of the files.

  • @matodinamo just find the install file for each program and place it in My Documents and reinstall(might have to do it as an Administrator), right-click and find Run As Admin...

  • and ready you have 30 days to activate it and buy it

  • Sorry for the earlier comment, i didnt watch the entire video XP

but i saw the program files folder in the windows.old folder, that means your programs are still instact with the system? no reinstalling? :) great video btw :D

  • lol considering microsoft are a very wealthy company, who have been heavily criticised about their operating systems lately, which has caused people to remain to xp.

you would think they would have invested some time and money, with all the programmers they have, to make it simple to upgrade from xp to windows 7.

  • Can you run windows 7 on your computer without entering the product key?

  • Yeah you can but unless you have a pirated version, why would you want to? it will just beg you to keep registering it and after 10 days of not doing so, it will start kicking you off.

  • Yes but when you switch on your computer will it give you a option what operating system you want to use eg windows 7, windows xp.

And will it save the accounts all setup rady to use with windows 7.

And will it let you to use your old operating system folders

  • I am so going to get this now but I'm only getting the premium as the others are a little to high for me and I wouldn't even use all those features anyways. Thanks a lot though for the video.

  • how long did this take to do overall?

  • Not even an hour

  • Don't know what Apple said about this (and don't care) but nice video anyway, i'm doing this as soon as i upgrade my pc's hd first

  • Thanks for watching

  • planing on doing this, would you know if it runs games smoothly as xp ? cheers.

  • They should run even better on 7. They do for me and I have 4 GB of ram.

  • i love it and this will sound stupid but will it work from vista to 7??? im sure it will work but u no you should make that clear

  • The video is for xp to 7 not vista to 7. Just ask a question like everyone else. Yes it will work from Vista to 7 if you choose to take that path.

  • So even large files like games and such will be moved over as well?

  • If they are in the appropriate folders then they will be moved over

  • @Xuxa16 What folders do they need to be in?

  • Now when you say games do you mean actual games? If so you cant move those those over. They will have to be reinstalled. You can move game saves a such over but the games themselves will have to be reinstalled

  • Did u install drivers for windows 7 on your pc before u upgraded?

or was the drivers on da installation cd
