Thanks for the great video. New to reloading and was trying to separate the bullet from a .223 round that was missing a primer (this was from a bulk purchase of rounds at a gun show) and was trying out my kinetic bullet puller. Bullet did not release after several hits...now I know I need to seat the bullet to break the crimp a bit as shown. Sure will save the bullet puller from the trash :) Anyway, I truely am learning a lot from your videos, thanks a lot for taking the time to make them.
When I pull bullets I put a mesh strainer, like you would use in the kitchen, on top of a bowl and dump the powder and bullet into the strainer. The strainer catches the bullet and the powder passes through the mesh and into the bowl. It really speeds up the process if you have a lot of bullets to pull.
i really hadn't thought of using the standard shell holder rather than the 3-part universal shyte. practical tip that i've used once allready. Thank you.
@StickiestLizard Several reason but the main one for me is to see if a box of handloads is questionable you can pull the bullet and weigh the powder to ensure correct powder weight. Old ammunition or unknown reloads can be pulled down to salvage bullets, brass and primers.
@ammosmith another rule is NEVER trust peoples pet recipes on the internet either. I have read so many that are WAY over the manuals max load. Go by the start load from the manual and work your way up.
@StickiestLizard sometimes when you are reloading you make a mistake, for example you're making bullets and wnen you examine your final product, you find you forgot to seat the primer, this is very easy to spot b/c there is usually power all over the place. well now you put that aside, later on you can pull it and reload it agian. Saving the brass and the bullet.
Hey could you tell me how you can bullet pull without all that equipment, if you can. And how much all that equipment is unless its to personal for you.
So I have this small bullet, looks like a .22 and the bullet it's self is loose. I can turn the bullet left and right as many times as I want, but I'm afraid to pull it apart...
I purchased a RCBS knetic style bullet puller to dissamble some .243 win. cartidges. After pulling 5 bullets from thier casing the back of the puller shattered. I returned it to the gun shop I purchased it from and the salesman there recomended a collet syle puller. In my opinion the collet style puller in a single stage press is quicker and lasts longer. The only downside is you need to purchase collets for each different bullet diameter.
hi,im new to this sport..was wondering? whats the difference with hardball bullets? my friend told me not to shoot hardball bullets when practicing shooting coz its a waste instead he advice me to use reload, another question whats the best bullet to use, by the way im using 1911 .45
Hardball is nothing more than a full metal jacket. Shooting handloads will save you money and if you cast your own bullets you save a lot of money. The average cost of .45 ACP 230gr Ball ammo is around $15-20 a box of 50. I can make a better bullet for about $1.50 for 50 rounds.
Sorry to critisize but it took you almost ten minutes to explain about two minutes of info by constant repeating, going back and forth, and explaining the obvious. Otherwise it would be good info.
I was talking to a guy at Talon Mfg and he said there's a small chance it could ignite. He also said it would shift the tracer element and cause the bullet to be slightly imbalanced.
O don't want to win, I just want to understand what you're dealing with. We (I) am here to help handloaders in anyway I can. My only weakness that I have is that I know almost nothing about shot shell loading. Please feel free to ask questions and or make suggestions. Shoot isn't a sport, it's a passion that I love as much as my freedom.
I always wanted to know how that puller worked. Now I know. Hats off to you in your primer video for wearing safety glasses. Everyone seems to forget just how nice it is to see. Now I must watch the rest of your videos and visit your website.
Some progressive presses use a standard shell holder. Others use a shell plate. I have both and never had a high primer that would not fit into a standard shell holder. Most high primers happen due to crimped primer pockets.
The shell holder is perfectly suited for the task. You'd think the designers would do a better job on the "universal shell holder" which is a piece of crap.
I always do it by hand with pliers, you think its dangerous?, i just twist the bullet to the sides till i loosen the bullet from the shell then i just pull it out and mission accomplished.
No but you will damage the projectile. Use an empty case to push over the top of the loaded bullet and twist around. The bullet loosens up, you get to reuse the bullet and your ahead money wise.
Thanks, there are many ways to pull bullets. We're going to post a video on how to make "Mexican Match" bullets soon. This is where you swap out a FMJ for a premium bullet.

if you want to put a wax bullet into a rimfire, just use a pliers to remove the led from the .22 and then add the wax bullet, is really easy.
Sluggeinstein 1 year ago
hi man! thanks for the video, can we reprime a .22LR rimfire brass? i would like to do that so that i can put a wax bullet in it. can it be done?
thanks.

@ammosmith So the charge/powder is the thing we'd be worried about to check for this?

You say just throw away the collet that comes with the bullet puller,If you have high primers you can not use a shell holder.
skelly607 3 years ago
True but if you have high primers you wouldn't be able to get the case out of the shell holder in the first place.

Most high primers happen on a progressive press. On a single stage you just reseat the primer.People with progressive machines will need the collet.

Some progressive presses use a standard shell holder. Others use a shell plate. I have both and never had a high primer that would not fit into a standard shell holder. Most high primers happen due to crimped primer pockets.

ammosmith 3 years ago
hi your right the bullet holders are crap. the bullet slips out after a couple of hits.
the rubber bands give after a couple of hits to where your are putting the case in and out all the time.
so is the case holder good to use i will have to give that a try
