Hey thanks alot for these videos i really appreciate someone taking the time to go over almost every detail thats related to this job cause in about 2-3 weeks I'll be taking my cdl so i can start schooling at Swift, just wish i get you as an instructor lol. thanks alot and keep the videos coming, I'll be looking out for them.
@AQUASIE4LIFE thx for the comment… I appreciate the support. I wish you the best getting in the industry, if you have any questions, just holler at me anytime ok. There are a lot of good mentors out there, so you should be ok.. just remember, that if its not working out then you can always request a new one. :) goodluck and you never know… maybe I'll get assigned to you haha -E
@kurtistt thats one of the hardest challenges.. honestly I am slacking on that one… I started a regiment of jump roping and walking and push ups but lately Ive slacked on it.. Imma get back on my grind soon, but know its a challenge for sure -E
@MegaLumbajack honestly .. i have no clue… i think there are variables that come into play.. are they new? seasoned? how seasoned? I know a guy doing rggional that has 5 yrs exp. and he is getting about .37 cpm.. you get paid per stop, so local could be cool, but if the work is slow, then your doing short miles… which means smaller pay. hope that kinda helped, if not then let me know.
Thank you very much also if swift give you there truck how long can you keep the truck until they give you a new one and can I also say can you bring a passenger at swift you is over 10 years of age please reply because this is very helpful to me thank you for your comment
@ThejohnnyZzzz I have had my truck since getting off my mentors truck.. so about a year already :) I am not to clear about bringing a 10 year old to be honest.. I think they have to be a son/daughter and it has to be a summer or winter break..
What if I go and push my self and go the extra mile will I get payed more also which company do you think is better covenant or swift plz comment back
@ThejohnnyZzzz You get paid per mile (as per agreed on the qualcomm) so if you wanna keep moving then yea, you get more $ (just watch the hours video re: going hard) re: swift vs… honestly I don't know anything but Swift, so I don't wanna incorrectly convince you to join, all I know is Swift is a BIG company, Wikipedia them & read up, you go where the freight is. Swift Trains, invests in you and has freight. So far they have been good for me and if you go there I hope for you too :) -E
I'm kind of confused by your math. You show week 2, 1320 miles for a total of $572. On week 4 you show 1439 miles at $348. Why the huge difference when you drove more miles on week 4 but made over $200 less.
@dirwulf EXCELLENT catch! … I did not see that myself till AFTER the video, but what happened was I paid for a lumper service $200 and they did not reimburse me till the following week 5, so my next paycheck was $200 more… so you have to take in mind the reimbursements :) thx and once again GREAT CATCH! (you gotta star in my book) -E
Local looks to be out of the question, I am going to get all my tax papers in order and send them to CR England this week coming up, and hopefully be on the road with them the second week of January. Probably see you out there on the road. I will keep in touch and let you know where I am, would be nice to talk to you after all of the help you have offered me from your video posts. Thank's again, keep them wheels a rollin.
Wanted to let you know I passed my test, and, now have my cdl with tanker, and doubles/triples endorsements, I am going to take my haz-mat test before this week is up. Hope to see you out on the road, but I am first checking into some local companies that will keep me around the house.
Hey bro I learn a lot from your videos but I gotta know do yu like swift cuz I wanna drive in there flatbed division and I just need to know how yu like the company and the people
@wolfman1991cs the company is good and the people are people .. sometimes you have ups and downs… you have good attitudes and bad ones, all that matters is that you keep YOURS good and you handle the problems when they come… if you can do that and keep professional, then you will be good :) the company is solid and work is good right now :)
@meezy48 well my friend, honestly if you were my brother, I would tell him…"get your education and explore your options before jumping into this industry" and then I would tell him (when he is a little older) "if this is what you wanna do then I support you" there are lots of upsides but there are sacrifices and downsides too… for now I just say take your time and lets talk down the road and we can go over more details ok :) - E
Hey E Just want to make a shout out to all the boys from Cali and new drives for the trucking industry. And God Bless you man with love and all the appreciation you have done with making the videos also putting aside your time and explaining all the details =] I'm from Miami FL 305 Dade County representing the boys from down south and I work for U.S Express Trucking. (Trucking all day ever day) O_O
Cool video man!! Well, I decided to go Swift after all and I just tested out in Salt Lake City and they brought me back to my home terminal in Edwardsville... Im waiting to get a truck right now so I can start rolling! Maybe Ill see you around in one of the terminals!!!! Take it easy E!!
@pipiligrama THATS GREAT! Congrats my friend!!! holler at me on Facebook ok and lets see if we can cross paths… get some coffee and chat it up :) just look me up First:Yourboye Last:Thetrucker -E
Hopefully Friday afternoon, I can give you the good news I go back to test at 2 p.m. Hopefully the school will give me the morning to get some driving in. Been a whole week now with no wheel time!
@AQualityRepair Man I wish you the best. Just study hard then go with your gut when its time to answer… I look forward to you telling me that you passed :) - E
Hi E I Love your videos man keep up the good work!! I have a quick question. Iam a soon to be truck driving school graduate(in 2 weeks) what route should I take team or solo, which pays the most money, and what are the advantages or disadvanages of team driving. Thanks E!!
@killak1975 hey :) that would actually make a good video idea for the future :) maybe I'll put something together down the road. but in short, when you go with the mentor, you will get to experience a feel for both ideas.. in the beginning I wanted to go team (cause I was used to being with my mentor) but after rolling solo, I like that a little more.. but in all honesty .. the money is in teams or mentor/team status. if you email me your ph# maybe I can explain better over the phone haha..-E
@yourboyethetrucker lol thats the truth, these shop guys take so long and the quick lane is a joke, hurry me out tellin me the prob is fixed so you can get the next truck through.... then im back the next day lol slc is known for that. happen to me hahaha
oh and those Michelin loads are bullshit, i unloaded 889 tires and only got paid 80 bucks, ive paid a lumper 200 to unload 22 pallets with a fork lift. mac 9 no for those loads everytime.
@TruckerMike2010 did the math… 889 at 20 seconds per tire to unload means your done in 3 hrs… 80bucks for 3 hours of work makes it $26/hr… you burn calories .. get in a good workout on the companies dime, and your making more than some in the non trucking world :) some prefer and some don't I guess :)
yea the pay sucks, thats why you dont go with swift for pay, you go with swift for the trucking experience, once you have enough you get the fuck out. also its the planners that fuck my miles up. ill have 30hrs left on my 70 and they will send me a 280 mile run that i can not deliver early. so instead of getting my miles for the week i get fucked. happens a lot.
@TruckerMike2010 getting the experience is a big part of the battle and seeing that Swift is a company that will take people with NO exp. and insure them with their own money and let them drive a truck worth 60-100K + (even though they break down a lot haha) I am still grateful … without them there would be no "get the experience and then leave" possible. So no hating on Swift k? thats my team right now :) -- thx for the comment though :) its always good to hear from TruckerMike :)
@rayconocon not true.. $10/hr (x 40 hrs weeks) = 400 x 4 weeks = 1600 gross before tax ($1120 after tax).. so its not quite the same…. no offense to Micky D's but I see more opportunity in driving trucks :)
@rayconocon yea well I did not say you were gonna be rich driving trucks … but its a start.. but thats good to hear for you.. congrats .. keep it positive my friend -E
Nice vid E. Finally got back in a truck. All tho I haven't driven for 10 years I found a company that recognized my passed experience. Started out at 36 1/2 cpm. I have to do 2 weeks of flatbed training and I'll start posting vid.....later
@Lowcountrytrucker thats awesome… so out of the starting gate you are making good money then… I need to ask soon about how I can increase my pay … cause If I made 36-37 cents .. it would be a life changer :) thx for the update.. good luck and I look forward to the videos -E
@yourboyethetrucker Well, you over half way to having a year in. Thats a start. Beyond that, specialize. I'm pulling flatbed so it tends to pay more. Then there's the fact that I get payed 52.00 to tap and strap. So just 4 tarp loads a week is an extra 200.00. But like I said, you have to specialize. I'm planing on going to a company out of FL hauling chemicals in about a year.
@howtotruckdriver101 thats about right for safety :) thx bro btw I enjoy your podcasts and the videos you had posted in the past… good to hear from you (it was a pleasant surprise) -E
Good job bro,im going back out monday...its nice being home... huh kid ?, im just sitting here hangin with my daughter, getting ready for some turkey and some pie.
hey E, your vids are soooo good i actually got a u tube account just to tell you! im looking to start a trucking school come jan, test out the waters then become an owner/opp (trust fund would be helping with the rig) i love the way you do your vids, they are really helpfull, KEEP THEM COMMING... maybe another truck tour, things to check on the engine, emergancy procedures... or just a ride-along. what ever it is ill watch it! keep you in my prayers, keep trucking safe
@ZsTruckin that was cool of you to write… I appreciate that support. Owner op is cool and I might eventually go that route, but for right now I am taking it day by day… :) I will defiantly be doing some videos on truck tours, and ride alongs and anything else that may pop into my mind. They take a while to shoot, edit and post, but in the end it is really worth it because of comments like yours… thx again -E
hey E great job on your video. I know health insurance is important for everybody to have. I do have a question do they offer 401 k does swift match what do you put in? keep up with the great videos. Keep it safe out on the road and hope to see your next video soon. Take care and god bless.
@Stoopid512 I feel ya.. haha sometimes thats how the ball bounces… my truck was probably in the shop at that time I got that little miles or I must have did my empty call after payday of the previous ya know… but on any downtime my priorities usually go, Sleep, call fam, read, exercise, sleep and sleep ;)
Thanks man. You do a great job with the vidz and I appreciate them all. Was thinking about OTR but will wait until kids grow up so I enjoy the vidz until then. Stay safe and please keep the shows coming.
@tjsr6 yeah thats a good call… getting into trucking is difficult decision, because there are so many factors to take into consideration… but till then I'll keep the videos rolling and I hope you continue to enjoy them. Thx for the comments, they are a boost in my motivation to keep putting out these short films :) -E
WOW!! THanxs so much for the video and about explaining about the miles. THat was very helpfull. Ohh one more question....is there direct deposit?? just wondering. ONce again thanxs for the video.
@HarvM30 Thx for the comment, … sorry I had forgot to mention that there was direct deposit… thats once of the first things you do when you come out of orientation, you set up all the paperwork inc. Direct deposit. I knew I had 15 mins and LOTS of info to put in the video haha… I can't believe I forgot that part haha… thx for the question -E
E: I can't believe you didn't get any medical insurance, not even the cheepest option. I realize the need for cash but one bad day can cost a fortune. When my apendix ruptured the bill was about $60k and my portion was about $8k and I have good insurance and thought I was healthy. Don't gamble with fate E, fate always wins. Your Vids are great - been watching ever since you were in school. Good luck and stay healthy :)
@IbeJeffg I know I know ::: shaking my head::: I know its a gamble, but at least in the beginning, its what i had to do… I plan to get a medical plan eventually but I wanted to get some money in the bank first and my feet off the ground… I might enroll soon, and when I do I'll make a video of how it works and stuff haha.. thx .. till then, Imma be as healthy as possible… :)
@MrChristhetrucker that stinks… yeah I am fortunate because they are making a lot of improvements, although it means more responsibility and protocol, but in the end I think its a move in a good direction :) Try and keep pressing back in.. maybe you can find a way to get started again.

That was a great vid. Looks like they pay for more things now. i was getting the bad deal when I was with them. They won't let me come back.
MrChristhetrucker 3 months ago
@MrChristhetrucker that stinks… yeah I am fortunate because they are making a lot of improvements, although it means more responsibility and protocol, but in the end I think its a move in a good direction :) Try and keep pressing back in.. maybe you can find a way to get started again.
