  • this makes my heart super happy!

  • I love ya, ladies, but you have to stop talking through every live music performance ever. It's becoming tedious to bare.

  • @GregWLocke I agree with you totally but if I saw him live I'd probably do the same

  • this is great!

  • Holy shit this is awesome. One of my favorite musicians covering another of my favorite musicians. This is like just a step below Elliott covering Radiohead for me. Who would have thought that he could pull off such a passable impression of Dylan's singing voice?

  • @MercuryClock Wow you took the words out of my mouth!! Elliott covering Radiohead would be purely magical!

  • the talking in the background combined with my noise canceling earbuds makes for a slightly neurotic listening experience

  • @WINFIELD32750 This is not an official release. Quite hard to get. The live album is called "Live at 400 Club 10/11/1998". There are 19 tracks. You can see it on RateYourMusic.

  • I love Dylan, and never wish death upon anyone, especially not him. What I meant was Elliott was born like 20 years after Dylan. He was taken from this Earth too early. It makes me sad to think of the songs we lost. @Apeself

  • This is pretty lame.

  • @beatlefreak777 This song is no easy task to learn and execute. Like many Dylan songs, there are a lot of words and its ALL about the words. Smith plays the parts incredibly well considering he probably just did this almost as a joke. Every band gets sick of their own songs eventually. The fact that Smith could offer his band this song and NAIL it is incredible to me.

  • Ha ha. Well, if you can find something to "make fun of" let met know. This song exemplifies the central dynamic in our dead western culture (soon to vanish no doubt, too bad because there are some positive elements) Let's ;just give the man a hand. He had the guts to "pentrate" i.e. the "forest for the trees."

  • Interesting cover..RIP

  • This is fucking amazing

  • man, this is great.

  • This great. It is a shame Dylan outlived Elliott though

  • @TheJeremiahWebb why the coolest people just do the most stupid things man?

  • @TheJeremiahWebb I can't believe people would uprate wishing someone would die...

  • and thats why mymayapapaya rocks

  • bob dylan and elliott smith are very much alike personality wise and musicaly. love them both

  • something is happening but you don't know what it is... love this dylan song - impossible! too like this one more - Nay for it is acceptable even with the audience... I mean no wonder... never mind don't want to open another account for famous rants

  • He gets that whole "Bob Dylan is stooooned" sound into his voice

  • @TheRancorable cuz elliott was prolly stoned to.

  • @TheRancorable haha totally!!!

  • what a great crowd.

  • Good cover.

Wonder why he didn't sing the whole thing.

  • love you ... to you michLL with one L :)

  • brilliant. Thanks for posting this.

  • ..every cover of his, all of them perfect .... everything he ever did. his music and spirit soothe my soul. i wish i could have done that for him as silly as it may seem

  • Great version, sounds so much like Dylan.

  • goosebumps!!!

  • fucking brilliant, and the crowd reaction makes it even better

  • I covered it a posted all the chords if you want to figure it out and play it. Elliots is the best cover imo

  • Great song, great cover, my two favourite singers united. I love whoever uploaded this.

  • lol the picture is great, the cover is better!

This is one of my favorite Dylan tracks

  • this is pretty alright.

    dylan is wwaaaayy better tho.

  • @concreatcreativity that is not even possible to............................. elliott smith cannot be compared TO ANYONE EVER

  • All that is left is for Bob to cover Elliott. Unlikely, but a fella can dream can't he.

  • God, what I would not do to hear Bob cover needle in the hay.

  • this song is so groovy, love it

  • cool song love it

    R.I.P Elliott Smith

  • Is he parodying Dylans voice? Still awesome.

  • I don't think he's making fun of it, but he's imitating it definetly .

  • @goodmusicguy97 it's hard when playing a dylan song to not try to sing it like him

  • you gotta love Eliott doing Dylan - it's perfect. A cultural loop - wonderful... thanks for posting....

  • something is happening here but u dont know what it is... do you, mr. jones?

  • Beautiful!!!

  • Haha i just kinda ranomly typed in "elliott smith ballad of a thin man" hoping for a result because I love the original so much. Thanks for this :)

  • elliot smith version is better than kula shakkker and malkus

  • badass!

  • Smith doing Dylan?! I never knew he did this! That is just heavenly!

  • He also did "when I paint my masterpiece" and a few others I think.

  • And he also did Black Jack Davey at a very sorrowful show. I love when he does Dylan. It makes them both that much more awesome.

  • omg, LOVE IT!!

  • Great song, great version.

  • A perfect fusion of my two favorite artists. Thank you for posting this.

  • I really love this!

  • I think the title is "Ballad of a Thin Man" though, but whatever. Thanks for sharing!

  • Thanks.
