  • 2:50 epic page turn! LOL

  • well you usually don't see her singing this kind of repertory... D:

Anyway, she's supposed to sing in another tessitura so don't ask her to sound awesome in her lows D:!

    then why she sang this?!

because of the simply fact she wanted (?)

  • Sumi Jo is great. its not right to compare her to Bartoli.Bartoli is some kind of freak of nature, act of god type thing. one in ten billion. this is by far the best rendition of this on YouTube, besides Bartolis of course.Sumi Jo is great. now having said that,if Bartoli does something, smarten up,just leave it alone!

    why crucify yourself?

  • "Don't shoot me, I'm only the piano player .... :D"

  • very bad!!! bartoli is het best of course!

  • Not perfect italian, not nice voice in the low notes O: and everything is like "as it gets".. Argh

    Cecilia Bartoli is the best.

  • I lOVE Sumi Jo singing this piece, it makes a major change and it was also wrote for a dynamic colatura so its nice to here a singer that sounds different. and everyone who says he technique is shit, firstly she is the number 1 opera singer of all time = fact and also she is one of the few opera singers who has a pure vibrato, she is also able to sing many pieces much harder than the more famous opera singers, she is devoted to opera, watch some interview to find out

  • @allthenamesrtook You legitimately just threw out a bunch of opinions and coined them as facts. Don't get mad at people for speaking their opinions just because they don't coincide with yours; you actually just made an ass of yourself.

  • @tenor220 it is fact that she is the current number one opera singer, she won the world competition for best opera singer, and I will get mad when uneducated people say bad things when they are CEARLY wrong because they don't know what they are talking about

  • @allthenamesrtook You're clearly a biased idiot. There's no such thing as competition for the worlds best opera singer, who are you to call anyone uneducated when you clearly know nothing of the subject?

  • @tenor220 umm yes there is, how do you thin people get the title such as first countertenor of china and such ¬¬ there are wold competitions you idiot and i am educated. i've studied classical music for over seven years, a classical pianist a countertenor singer and i also done my universoty degree two years early because ¬¬ i know WAY more than you do obviously

  • @allthenamesrtook You don't even know how to spell university, yet you expect people to take your word as an authority on classical music? You know nothing, and do nothing more than spout off your opinions and act in a pompous manner. I'm not wasting anymore of my time on this discussion, you're wrong and any classical musician will say the same thing. Go get your money refunded from your "university" as you clearly received a third rate education.

  • @tenor220 i made one typo you fucking twat! and im not the one who is arguing with fact! and i am not wrong, you're the one who is wrong THAT IS FACT! you can't argue with it and i never got a third rate education unlike you ¬¬ ever heard of the royal academy of music, yhh so suck my dick you stupid twat

  • @allthenamesrtook and the name of this competition which decides that fate of all opera singers the world over would be?

  • @tenor220 there are several, such as opera singer of the world, and many others, im not bothing anymore ¬¬ your just a waste of a person ¬¬

  • @allthenamesrtook as there are "several such" how can you state that any one of them dictates who is the best in the world? In what way does that make sense? Do you like looking stupid, or is this just a form of sad entertainment for you?

  • First of all she is a soprano. And secondly sumi jo has the bst technique in the world for ur informatiom to those idiots saying her technique sucks

  • I LOVE THIS performance. Lovin' Sumi Jo:)

  • Better tthan vivica genaux if you ask me. Atleast she hast grace XD. But yes bartoli holds the title for this one but it's nice to hear other variations :3

  • Estupenda!

  • yuck, sorry. Where's the expression? The soul of the piece? She looks awkward and sounds screechy.

  • stupid! cecilia bartoli IS THE BEST!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Bartoli has technical skills to burn...

  • sumi jo is a fabulous singer, theres no doubt about it.but, those who put down cecila bartolis "techniqe" are just completely out of thier minds.thats just insanity

  • heres an interesting fact, if you count up al the words in these comments, do you know which word was used the most? BARTOLI

  • It s bad but I ve heard worse - Veronica Cangemi for instance :)

  • Whoever is one of the people that gave this 169 dislikes obviously doesn't know what opera singers should sound like.

  • @ikimonogakari2 It's actually quite the opposite.

  • cecilia is mezzo sopran and sumi jo soprano both are amaizing no doubt ...

  • Mejor es la interpretación de Cecilia Bartolli..... Busquen esta: "Cecilia Bartoli Agitata da due venti Vivaldi"

  • i like baroque pianist and histeric soprano :-(

  • ALIVE THE PIANITS!!!

  • Come on people, it's not that bad! :) She's ok, but Cecilia is Cecilia :)

  • @8Goldie love cecilia!

  • She is a soprano singer. Her deep voice is terrible.

  • but why only a piano?!?!

  • my girl cecilia bartoli is gonna teach sumi jo how to actually sing! c mon ceicei!

  • it takes balls to even attempt this but you just cannot surpass bartoli! definitely her aria...

  • bartoli is 100 times better...

  • @gosty111 this song is meant for mezzo soprano right?? obviously. but not 100 times better cause sumi jo is one of the best sopranos in the world

  • This is an aria usually sung by mezzos or sopranos with in a different sub-fach. This lady is a light leggiero coloratura, and her higher, sweeter voice is not used to its best here. She avoids the low notes whenever she can and stays in an upper register more often than not so the aria sounds bland to me. Also, what's with the B section missing altogether?

  • I really liked it although she is not Bartoli. And I don't care about how Bartoly did it, she is a different singer with a different voice

  • Frankly idk what people are talking about when you say bartoli is so much better. Bartoli has no technique and more jaw tension than anyone. Its so gard to watch bartoli. Sumi jo is a wonderful singer.

  • The thing that's interesting to me is that there aren't a whole lot of people out there singing this other than Bartoli. Though everyone has their favorite for Habanera or Un bel di, nobody says they "belong" to someone. I'm just glad someone else with great artistry has attempted this piece besides Bartoli. I like Bartoli's version, but it's nice to hear other takes!

  • @8x8MaVerick8x8 Check out Anna Bonitatibus! It won't disappoint.

  • Good job Accompanist!

  • now im so sick of batoli or whatever, wanna type, on every bartolis videos, how she looks like third class horror movie heroin with vacant eyes and tired mouth, with harsh nose, who only screams :p

  • stop bombarding... Sumi is ALREADY consummated artist(if anyone disagree just say so), she sings whatever she wants to sing. i bet she have listened bartoli, liked the song, liked the lyric, wanted to sing.

just leave her alone. i ve never seen this much disrepects on jo's videos.

  • :S her voice is so uneven, the vowels! I cant believe it's her, I cant hear it no more

  • umm this was kind of painful to watch..moving on..To Bartoli!!!! :D

  • And she does not look retarded when performing! Bartoli is easy to listen to but I never get her face out of my head so it's not easy to enjoy listening to her.

    Sumi Jo wins!

  • @RumbleFishL337

That is the sign of true talent and never ending practice, it leaves Sumi Jo the spare capacity to think about looking pleasing to the audience, whilst still producing an incomparable performance.

She is the ultimate performer, no one else comes anywhere near.

  • The italian isn't great. Bartoli takes the win on this one.

  • @gasparinaori Right!? Totally heroic page turn. Nothing scares me more.

  • Is she the girl that taught Suzy in Dream High?

  • 2:50 that man is my hero !

  • Brava!

  • sorry but bartoli is my girl! she is the best!

  • Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica Vivica!!!

  • @niemiec13 Haha what are you talking about! Bartoli is way better!

  • @slothfat yes she is!

  • Sumi Jo is not a Mezzosoprano.^^

  • @hansacrew Cecilia Bartoli isn't really a mezzo either, but she sings this song fabulously. The song is really for an amazing coloratura with some beefy low notes.

  • just compare the part 0:51 - 0:57 of this video and the 0:51 - 0:57 from Bartoli's.

    There's the big difference.

  • cecilia

    bartoli is the best,,,,,,,,

  • A thoroughly enjoyable performance- not the same as Ste. Cecilia, but beautiful none the less.

  • really disgusting. where are you all bartoli from? what the hell language do you speak?? gods cannot believe how rude you are. i mean really.

  • GRAAAAAAANDE!!!!

  • not ever closer to the marvellous performance of Bartoli!!!!

  • so people get some respect... just open up. i really had hard time to listen to this song because of all of your preoccupied conception of what- it- should- sounds mindset :p

  • wow.... you know it is kinda rude to type "Bartoli" like hundred times here on this another amazing musicians clip lol seriously. i didn't know the score and i searched Bartoli and got the idea. Ok, i got the point. in my very uneducated opera ears, too, it sounds better in lower ranged singer, at least it is not for the light coloratura.

  • @wrongforthat exactly! it's incredibly rude

  • Bartoli!!!!!!!!Bartoli!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Bartoli

  • sumi rocks¡¡¡¡

  • Bartoli e' migliore in assoluto!

  • Bartoli you're not... but a good try Jo

  • @manganay hahahahah!!!I agreee!!! :))

  • @manganay yes! my absoulte favorite!

  • @manganay it would be best to hear a real castratovoice or a very good countertenor. Hope that Jaroussky will sing this one time

  • @manganay sorry Bartoli makes it sound like mouth gargle. yeah she's fast and accurate but so are machines. This is music written for humans. Jo is more musical, so is Caballé. Cecilia's a cartoon character.

  • @tklogan111809

    Totally agree

  • No! If you don’t like the performer, view content you enjoy and offer praise there!

I could say Bartoli is a passable singer, looks like a ox, has all the stage presence of a lamp post and her expressions are revolting!

She is not the complete package needed in today’s mutli media world, whereas Sumi Jo is. She sings without flaw, keeps fit and she has continually polished her stage performance.

I liked both when thay started out 20+ years ago, Bartoli has let herself go!

    S J never will!

  • @manganay ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE ASSHOLE. keep your stupid comment to yourself. Bartoli sings almost 50 percent of the notes out of tune. At least this woman sings in tune, and in the baroque style, not like she's singing Wagner or Puccini. Bartoli is an absolute non-musician pig who has no respect for the composer.

;D Have a nice day!!

  • @WorldCupSeoul At least Bartoli is entertaining and communicates something, this performance is so cold and boring!

  • @theanswer00

As I said before if you don’t enjoy a performer, watch one you like and leave them praise for producing something you like.

The people we are discussing are all world-class performers and warrant recognition of their great skills.

I don’t watch Bartoli, she leaves me totally cold but I never leave insults about her videos which upset her loyal fans.

Spare time is scarce for me, never enough hours to enjoy Sumi Jo.

Let us all treat music as it is intended, to bring pleasure.

    Enjoy

  • @manganay Ye, YES! YES!!!!

    Bartoli Bartoli Bartoli Bartoli Bartoli

  • good, but have you listened to Vivica Genaux?

  • since Jo is famous for the French repertoire, this is impressive. who knew?

  • yeah. stick to the higher stuff but still a good attempt. i was impressed with the low note.

  • This is for a mezzo. Not foi a coloratura soprano. Bartoli does this much better.

  • Bartoli is the Queen...

  • Grauenvoll!!!

  • I've heard her in best conditions

  • Sumi Jo is amazing, really. But this is not her aria. Sumi Jo needs something sweeter, nothing powerfull. This is a rushed interpretation. I'm sorry, but this aria is a Bartoli's one.

  • Listening to this again it isn't too bad, but her low notes really do let her down. Needs a mezzo voice to do it justice, I think.

  • This girl shouldn't be singing this, she's not a mezzo...

  • pornografia!

  • Not bad, but bad luck for you Bartoli sings this. Should stick to Olimpia, your only really good role.

  • SakumaRyuichiNG Right! ;D

Cecilia is the Best, really, and we have also to consider that the opera was written in italian and Sumi doesnt' have a PERFETC pronunciation.

And there's only the piano playing... :(

  • @ChiaraMorgan Sumi is better just hear her with Der holle rache, O mio babbino caro, Ave Maria

  • oh wow...well it was definitely a decent try but a song like this of course is gonna get compared to the ones that do it MUCH better. aka Bartoli. but hey if i was in her shoes, i would have at least gave it a shot too. because with her status she can! and thats what being a star is all about. Just putting your best foot forward and giving it all you got! ..but for sumi on this one im gonna say lets try to stay in our fauh...that what we have it for

  • no, no no---...... Bartoli rules !

  • seems only Vivica can handel this vivaldi:)))))))

  • I enjoyed this even though it is a bit beyond her. I don't usually like to compare singers here, but Bartoli's performance of this is just amazing. I still love Sumi too.

  • both cecilia and sumi are very good at this. there are very different voice types so you cannot compare them. brava tutti!

  • i like her dress though :)

  • the only piece that sumi jo cant do it perfectly.

  • I wonder how this chink could pronounce the sound of the letter R since they have no use for it. Well, anyways she SUCKS, Not even closer to Cecilia Bartoli.

  • Comment removed

  • this is not a matter of who's got the better technique.... They are two absolutely contrastingly different techniques!

  • ok ok ok ! People you do realise that Sumi jo is a soprano who was trained to sing bel canto where as bartoli specialized in baroque! They dont sing it in the same manner at all you cant compare. Sumi jo sings every phrase with full dramatic affliction throughout the whole piece, even the runs! Sure its not in the style and this video proves that its much more difficult to sing such an aria the way she does. Im sure if Bartoli attempted to sing it in this manner, she would struggle immensely.

  • I'm sorry for Sumi Jo. Bartoli's technique is uncontestable!

Bartoli migliore!

  • mmm so disapointiing =S

  • this is good but bartoli makes me wanna sing! plus sumi has no vibrato at all!

  • this is good but bartoli makes me wanna sing!

  • Mezzo-soprano and soprano are different .... but Sumi-Jo was lacking in manipulating her voice .... but being a to sing this well wasn't really easy though .... I too respect her ....

  • This is one of the worst interpretations of agitata da due venti I've ever heard.

She's trying but that's it and the most hilarious part of it is the pianist. Perhaps it's me but as I recall the piece wasn't written for piano... a shame, a rape of Vivaldi's work.

  • Sumi is much more precise in higher notes than bartoli... but Cecilia is REALLY agitata da due venti :)

  • I like Sumi Jo very much but I have to say that unfotunately this song is absolutely not made for her! Her voice is not powerful enough in the bass (low notes)! But anyway, I respect her work bacause its hard for somebody who's an other culture than the european one to copy exactly our style! Congratulations

  • This song is not for Sumi Jo at all ... the low notes are barely audible ... better sung by a mezzo like Cecilia who has a powerful lower register ... not to say Jo is bad but the Fach is wrong here

  • She is lovely and she has a great voice but she lacks the necessary agility required for this piece...hence the breaks and -painful- slowdowns in the coloratura parts

  • what a horrible gowne!!

  • Very bad

  • Jo - don't quit your day job and make sure to BOW to the one and only Bartoli on your way out...:)

  • Don't knock it for Sumi! I agree that Cecilia has a more 'likeable' voice, but Sumi is just awe inspiring too..........

  • I have the music for this right in front of me right now... and she doesn't do some of the lower passages, she puts them up an octave. Which is by no means shameful... just something I noticed. I like how she puts a bit of 'Sumi' into this song XD

  • I think both Sumi Jo and Cecilia Bartoli are very good at singing these songs. Like many said, this is a difficult song to sing, so you should be amazed by both talents. Both hold something very unique in their version of the song.

  • and there she is again! wow....soprano sumi jo so easily singing a masterpiece of notable difficulty, nonetheless, written for mezzo soprano! amazing, true talent and very hard work.

  • Aunque lo hace bien, lo hace mil veces mejor Bartoli.... Bartoli, eres la mejor!!!

  • I'd like to see y'all try this!! You haters!!

  • I still prefer Cecilia Bartoli, but Miss Sumi Jo does great ^_^ Plus, her pronunciation is good *_* Brava ^^

  • No need to compare Jo and anyone else. I say just appreciate the art...and a very difficult aria.

  • Lots of kinda negative comments on here about Miss Sumi Jo, but...Bartoli notwithstanding, Sumi Jo is pretty amazing. It's easy to sit on the Youtube sidelines and criticize, but this is an incredibly difficult piece, done by Sumi Jo in a virtuosic manner. And in taking a slightly slower tempo, it makes her breath support in the long phrases all that much more impressive. And the tone quality is superb, especially the high notes.

  • This is good, i mean i can never do this, but Cecilia Bartoli is fucking beast at this!

  • Holy Molly She's really UGLY and slow, nothing even close to the great Cecilia Bartoli. She can not even pronounce correctly the Italian words. Looks likes she's doing a HUGE effort to sing this aria. Nop She Sucks big time. LOL she slur her words, Hahahaha.

  • Pronunciation is... is... is........ Sorry guys but really disgusting!.

  • Pretty impressive. But Bartoli mops the floor with her ;D.

  • I'm also a big sumi Jo fan. but she should never sing this aria again.

  • no ofense, sumi Jo is one of my favourite singers, and one of the few who can perform this aria... but, BARTOLI KICKS ASS
