Tennant's Doctor wore a series of different long coats that went with the outfit, whereas this is just one coat that seems like he'd be wearing a lot of (though I've only seen the one episode with it on).

It is common practise to dress the protagonist with a long coat or cloak/cape.

It seems like you noobin' trolls will do anything to make your pitiful life seem worth while; it really isn't.

I wasn't sure about the coat at first but after seeing it in action in "Let's Kill Hitler," I like it a lot. It doesn't really remind me of Ten's or Jack's at all, actually. It's too short and it's army green.

It's really different in design too. Ten's trench was very generic modern human, like everything he wore really. Jack's had more flare and was kind of WWI military. Eleven's coat feels really steampunk to me. I'm digging it. Though, like Matt says, the tweed will always be king.
