The Kyiv Ukraine Temple, majestic in its setting of large apartment buildings, is evoking thoughtful comments from many who are attending the open house.
But in the last days it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the Lord shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it.
This becomes even more important when you are surrounded daily with profanity, socially accepted immorality, immodesty, pornography, and other inappropriate material in the media, including television and the Internet, and widespread availability of drugs and alcohol. In a word, not a day goes by that we are not asked, in one form or another, "Who's on the Lord's side? Who?" I have two simple suggestions to help you prepare your answer to that question.
George shared three main points, beginning with the Catholic understanding of religious freedom, which he said is shared by Mormons and must be protected in order to maintain the public good.
"It cannot be reduced to freedom of worship or even freedom of private conscience," George said. "It means that religious groups as individuals have a right to exercise their influence in the public square."
"Well really, I really wanted to help Haiti in some kind of way and I thought just making skirts would help," Sarah said.
Gail Poyner, Sarah's grandmother, taught her how to sew the pillows when she got her machine and was thrilled when Sarah asked her to teach her how to sew skirts for girls in Haiti.
"The people of the Church sense all this and they want to be a part of it. They want to give," he added, noting that most of the money enabling members of the Church to better live the charge to "be one" comes from the wards and branches of the Church in small amounts.
"Everything points from the Old Testament to the New Testament," observed Russell T. Osguthorpe, who, with his two counselors in the Sunday School general presidency, discussed this year's course of study in a recent Church News interview.
The same qualities that make Brother Stacey so successful professionally also helped him effectively serve as a bishop for six and a half years in the Fort Collins Colorado Stake, where Russ McClure is stake president.
"By being obedient I mean that we should cultivate a desire to be good, to be clean, be reverent, be kind, be consistent and be diligent," Elder Clayton said. "We control what we watch and the things to which we listen. We don't press our luck by taking risks physically or spiritually. We build controls and precautions into our lives. We are faithful. We manifest to the Savior that we are willing to take upon us His name
"I am only one, but I am one. I can't do everything, but I can do something. The something I ought to do, I can do. And by the grace of God, I will." - Edward Everett Hale
"It's leaning that way, toward more like a hate crime, but we wouldn't know until we made suspect contact and interviewed them to determine exactly what their intent was," he said.
The police investigation would be conducted in a similar way whether it was a hate crime or not, but if it is found to be a hate crime, a suspect could face enhanced charges, Smith said.
They were thrown sometime after the last checks by church members at about 10:30 p.m. The incidents were reported between 6 a.m. and 7:30 a.m. Sunday, when members began arriving for early-morning church activities.
The note may push the investigation into hate-crime territory, depending on whether the vandals intended to "intimidate or terrorize," Smith said.
The notes were printed on a single sheet of white paper, and the rocks were baseball-to-softball size. The double-paned, tempered glass was broken in only one of the churches. In the others, the rock broke through only the first pane of glass and landed outside the buildings.
So what the leaders of the church teach is following the precepts of what the savior taught.Reminding us we are loved by God.Pretty cool. I dont see a thing wrong with that.
Before daybreak, before this north Fulton County community is fully awake, 17 high school students gather to study the finer points of Scripture and thus build their faith.
They sit barefoot in a circle of sofas and chairs in a spacious basement family room —- eager soldiers studying.
Welcome to seminary everyone, says Brenda Yates, the woman of the house and class instructor, taking her seat.
what is wrong with you people! mormons are couragous, loving, faithful, "non-government over takers"!!!!!!!!!!alll who hate us- you will regret it in the last days.
ProudToBeAMormon: I do know that Mormons are courageous, loving and faithful, as many of my friends and acquaintances prove. And most of those friends are highly embarrassed that their church has fed right into the stereotypical characatures by playing politics in California.
You need to get over this notion that because people disagree with you, that means they hate you. It doesn't.
I disagree with you strongly, but I am commanded by someone I greatly respect not to judge you or hate you.
The Mormons, on the other hand, volunteer regularly, whether its doing public service events organized by a local congregation or missionary work in different countries.
Mormons are fascists, attempting to take over the US government. Proposition 8 was the start, eventually, they will attempt to outlaw divorce, tea, caffeine, cigarettes, alcohol, homosexuality, and everything else against their faith.
Look at the laws they are still attempting to blanket over all of Utah.
In my church in 2008 there were 30 marriages, 9 of them between same-sex couples. The 4 same-sex marriages I know of that were planned for after November 4 had to be cancelled because the Mormons told us we could no longer celebrate this sacrament in our own church. They said the same to scores of other churches and synagogues across my state.
"Conspiracy'" lds9999? I don't think so. Just plain old brute force. Forcing your neighbor to obey your belief.
And what you seem to forget is that the action was taken by the people of California. Yes, the majority.
Absolutely the Church played a role with that, along with many other churches, along with many other civic groups, along with millions of Californians.
We will stand for what we believe in, whether it is popular or not.
"played a role"?? You wrote the script. What a pity that a church many once admired is steadily turning itself into a political organization. It used to be only the fundie wing-nuts and sidewalk preachers who called you a cult and suspected you of conspiring to take over the government. Now you've just added fuel to their fire.
Since when did religious sacraments become a "majority-rules" proposition in our country?
A "scarament" is a religious rite. Marriage is a religious ritual, not a civil one. Judges redefining marriage to include homosexuals, is judges using the law to interfere in religious beliefes, or a "sacrament". This is un-Constitutional and wrong.
On the other hand President Monson is a religious leader, a Prophet. He has much more of a right to get into teh defense of a religious ritual form the force of politics than judge sdo to force change in it.
You are an idiot if you think it was only a few nutjobs who called us a cult. Either that or completely ignorant.
Also you appear to be ignorant of history in America. Every great movement from the abolition movement, to women's rights, to civil rights, all started with churches and religious leaders. They started with churches seeking to stand up for true morals in the world agianst the evils of their days. So get over it.
@GLBTsovereign Alright Mr. Negative, you take fools like yourself that believe in that crap and then compare them to others that do not partake of them! And no, if someone needs a divorce, then so be it! Your skepticism and lack of knowledge of our faith as a whole has clouded your point of view and has lead you to anger and to wasting your time on such bull crap. You go around mocking and discriminating our beliefs, but do you see faithful members doing this to your church? OF COURSE NOT!!!!!!!
We do not want to outlaw divorce and caffeine. In some cases Divorce is necessary as well as how caffeine can be overused; a man must overcome addiction. Surely you would believe that a God who is loving would not want your physical body to be harmed through cigarettes, alcohol. Surely when God created the Earth and brought forth Adam and Eve to be the parentage of mankind, you would see why we do not practice homosexuality. Our Faith is in Christ. Save your complaints toyourself
well ive been reading the comments here and a lot say that the church of jesus christ of latter day saints is a CULT! especially that big tall ox guy youve got all wrong man.
We do believe in the bible we dont say we don't really believe in the Bible. " thats another wrong thing man go learn more because if think like that u must be a wierdo : s hahahaha !!!!
The often imitated... never duplicated. Church of Jesus Christ of Latter day saints. There really is nothing like it here on earth. Being a part of our lord and saviors church has been the biggest blessing in my life this far. Ask your local LDS missionary for help finding that sweet spirit of Christ that may be missing from your life. You owe to your self
What do early anti-Christians have in common with anti-Mormon Christians?
Answer: They reject the same types of beliefs & rituals & proceed to vilify, demonize & spread hateful & harmful disinformation propaganda against their rivals.
"I was asked to serve as the secretary -- the arms and the legs as it were -- of three very busy members of the Quorum of the Twelve," Mortimer said. The Scriptures Publication Committee was led by Elder Thomas S. Monson, of the Quorum of the Twelve and committee chairman, and Elders Boyd K. Packer and Bruce R. McConkie of the Quorum of the Twelve.
The LDS conference contains little about their actual doctrine. The fact is,the LDS church is founded on a bunch of lies, violence and sin that the church is trying to cover up. But the doctorine is the same, and not supported by what's stated in the Bible. In fact they'll tell you that they don't really believe in the Bible. They are not Christians. If you're going to join this organization, take the time to learn about what they truly believe first.
What's funny is that you tell people to learn about our "real doctrine", but then tell people to completely disregard the words of our leaders? Don't you see the paradox there?
You also said, "In fact they'll tell you that they don't really believe in the Bible." That is absolutely false. We believe the Bible is the word of God.
However, it appears your comment is meant more to spread half-truths (or outright lies) than to actually share true facts.
No, I see no paradox. The leaders are trying to portray the church as something it is not, ie that it's a Christian church. Just like how LDS say joseph smith was just a man in explaining away the completely different versions of the first vision. This leader is also just a man, and although his words sound kind and inviting, people looking into joining the church need to learn the real doctrine.
BigTallOx seems to indicate that different versions of JS's first vision negate and nullify it's validity, therefore making it and the church false. If so, then using his test, all the teachings of Christianity and the Christian church which are based on what Paul taught should also be negated and nullified since in the NT he (Paul) relates three different stories concerning his conversion. How does he handle that disparity? By their fruits...
This is an awesome Church founded by God andJesus Christ, through Joseph Smith. Hear the words of these men and ask yourself if these are false messages. They are not! The Gospel of Jesus Christ is beautiful, and His sacrifice is the most important event in History.
Learn more about their real doctrine and you'll know it's not true. Most LDS aren't even aware of what the real doctrine is. They close their eyes to it because the like other aspects of the church. They use arguments like above, ie listen to their words and you'll know it's true. It's how they suck you in. But study the facts about the church and you'll know it's by no means true.
I think you'll find that most LDS are aware of the doctrine and history of the church. And many of us are aware of teachings given by leaders in the past, which are true, but are not officially part of the doctrine of the current church. Its all true and its all good. You can gain a testimony of the work. You should try it.
The LDS Church is a fraud that is only kept alive because of the Tithing of the members. Take the Tithing money away, and nothing is left. One massive fraud. The General Authorities must know this, yet say nothing as theycontinue to meet in their luxurious office buildings.
"When we were on our mission we were looking for those people who were interested in hearing the gospel," he said, noting that he was focused on his Church assignment.
But, in so doing, his wife also taught him to look into the hearts of the people.
On one occasion, President and Sister Schwitzer came upon an elderly Russian woman. She used two canes to walk. President Schwitzer looked into the woman's weather-beaten face, which had deep wrinkles, and walked on by.
"It has been fun to expand our social relationships with people of similar principles," Rangel said.
Rangel stressed the importance of preserving one's own culture, but also said Hispanic LDS in the United States should not be closed off to learning from others.
Cold storage is a high priority. In fact, Turley reports that the space used to house the refrigeration equipment is almost equivalent to the space used to store the actual records.
"You are a tremendous and a marvelous people. You are loved throughout the world, because in the history of the Church your people have blessed the Church in a marvelous way and you are still on this path."
Yes thank God for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints I agree completely we should praise Jesus Christ, the only begotten of the Father, our Judge, the Messiah, born of the Virgin Mary, and the one who was born lived, was baptized by John the Baptist, has his ministry in and around Jerusalem, had twelve apostles, performed miracles, was crucified, died and who was raised up on the third day in the glorious resurrection.
I am so thankful for the Lord and Saviour, even Jesus Christ!
I love the simple logic of a friend on this one. While Jesus is the Son of God in a narrower sense, He is also, of course, a Son of God in the broader sense, as the scriptures teach. Now in this broader sense we may say that angels, also, are children of God. Satan is a fallen angel, if you believe the testimony of Isaiah or John the Revelator. That Christ and Satan are brothers is not an important teaching, but a secondary conclusion, and a Biblical one. But Satan fell, Christ stayed with God.
Ummm, dude, not to be defensive, but the LDS church didn't come up with Prop 8, nor were they the only ones who supported it. If you're gonna bash on one group for Prop 8, do that group a favor and bash the other groups while you're at it. Be fair.
As I listened to their answers, I discovered a consistent theme that I would summarize as follows: I have come to understand better the protection available through our temple covenants and what it means to make an acceptable offering of temple worship. There is a difference between church-attending, tithe-paying members who occasionally rush into the temple to go through a session and those members who faithfully and consistently worship in the temple.
Years ago, I changed my attitude about going to church. No longer do I go to church for my sake, but to think of others. I make a point of saying hello to people who sit alone, to welcome visitors, . . . to volunteer for an assignment. . .
Starting with nothing, Robert began to create a new life for himself and his family. The first years were hard, but gradually things improved as he and his brother Archibald began to develop mills on Mill Creek and the Jordan River. A few years later he suffered a reversal of fortune. The water powering his mill was taken upstream, leaving his portion of the stream dry. An attempt to build a six-mile (10-km) canal to the mill failed.
I once was a memeber of the church. I wasn't excommunicated but asked my name to be removed from church rolls. While I keep my religious feelings to myself, I still continue to reguard members of the church with great respect and wish all the best.
Yeah, gotta tag on omiolo's coat-tails. We believe in modern day revelation, prophecy and the authority and power of the priesthood. You know who's in charge of that? Jesus.
Jesus and God are not passive, they are active in our life? Why should you believe that the concept of a modern prophet is so impossible?
Can God not speak to whomever he wishes? Does God no longer care about his children? Of course not!
Modern prophecy is true, and only through the power of Christ.
I love these clips, thank you for posting. The apostles testify of the wonderful gospel of Jesus Christ, and help us come closer to Christ. I don't think anyone can rightfully dispute that.
You need to check your facts. If you are going to use numbers then get the right ones. Your Catholic stats are including the people who are non-practicing or Christmas Catholics, I dont know where you got the LDS #s (I am just an investigator) so I wont comment on them. Church does not have the sole rights to the word apostle (An apostle is a messenger and ambassador look in the dictionary)
President Stephen L Richards taught that a quorum is a class, a brotherhood, and a service unit: a class where a young man may be taught the gospel of Jesus Christ; a brotherhood where we can strengthen, build, lift, and friendship each other; and a service unit to give service to quorum members and others
President Monson has taught that the "teaching of fundamentals is urgent. That we might better understand our task and our opportunity" and in order to merit the discernment of the Spirit, priesthood leaders must do their homework
we believe in the plan of salvation which means lots of things but as far as dying and living with god it is not for us to decide. We believe that Father in heaven (God) decides that at the judgement day after the second coming. until then we live in the spirit world loving and teaching all others who have passed from this earthly life. So we hope that we will live with god one day but that is ultimately not our decision.
mormonchick011: Wow!!! So unBiblical, so unChristian: Believe the Bible! Get the Holy Spirit sense of what John is saying in 1 John 5:12-13. I feel so sorry for Mormons believing all their lives that they cannot have the assurance of salvation issuing forth to the living with Father in His house eternally. You say, "ultimately not our decision"? You need reality to break in upon your consciousness, dear one. The
So, Shulamite fire, you don't have to feel sorry for us, because we do have that assurance. Sometimes members of the LDS Church don't fully understand this and therefore think that it's prideful or boastful to say "Yes, I KNOW I will return to live with God." this is primarily because it's based upon our obedience. But we truly DO believe that, and know it.
mormonchick011: Please, get the sense of what the Holy Spirit really is saying to you in 1 John 5:12-13. I feel so sorry for Mormon folk plodding through life ignorant of the reality that every true disciple of Christ can & should have the full assurance of living in the very presence of Heavenly Father forever.
Mormonchick, I'm sorry, but what you said is simply not true. We DO believe that it is COMPLETELY our choice whether we return to live with God or not. That's what agency is all about. As followers of Jesus Christ, LDS Church members have a strong belief that they WILL return to live with God, IF they are faithful. It is the core of our teachings. Anyone who does not believe they will return to live with God does not understand the doctrine.
Have you accepted Allah he one true God ? Jesus, whom you pray to, will be of no avail on day of judgement my friend. To to Allah, before you burn in hell for eternity. Allah bless you
I believe that it is a continual process, as well as an event (such as baptism). It means to me that through the Atonement, I have been able to repent and have the Spirit of the Lord with me.
If I die tonight...well there are some other issues there but I have hope that after judgment I will.
Every 6 months, millions of members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church) gather in chapels, in their homes and over the Internet to listen to the words of living apostles and prophets.

Ha, I, myself, am a new member of the Church, having been baptized in Jan. This April will be the first Conference that I will liste to, and I am SOOO excited! :D
A new convert! wow that's awesome. I hope your journey in the church is filled with many blessings. I hope that your testimony will grow each day. Here are my words of wisdom: "Follow the Prophet"
And in all honesty - excuse my silly ranting - but the concept of Israelites spreading across the ocean, landing in the Americas, and seeding two warring tribes that came to build structures across the present-day US is patently absurd. DNA evidence and Archaeology both stand in stark opposition to mormonism, unless interpreted with serious bias. I don't hate mormons. I just have a really huge allergy to bull, and seeing people preaching to their own choir irritates me to no end.
Why is this "patently absurd?" Because it doesn't fit your paradigm?
3. "DNA evidence and archaelogy both stand in stark opposition to Mormonism, unless interpreted with serious bias."
I'm glad you bring up the point of bias. You do realize that those who have brought up and studied this DNA "evidence" are ex-Mormons with an agenda of their own?
4. "seeing people preaching to their own choir irritates me to no end."
Wait, isn't this what happens almost everywhere with most topics. By nature, most people listen to things they agree with. So almost every church leader, every TV show, every lecturer--they are all "preaching to their own choir".
I don't mean to go Ad Homonym, 9999, but as a mormon, society's decadence and disregard for mormon principles and teachings must have the same effect on you.
And additionally, I am not preaching to my own choir here. And Mormons send out missionaries to convert people across the globe. Please. Don't hand the, 'you generalise too much' card to *me* of all people. I'm the worst offender.
I didn't say you were preaching to your own choir here. My point was that this is what happens 95%+ of the time in this world.
Besides, if I had wanted to put this video up to be seen primarily by LDS members, I would have titled it much differently. I would have called it something like "General Authorities Talk to the Church during General Conference."
Do you think you would have found it then? Probably not. Instead, I used keywords that non-members search for--like "Mormon."
Another gross generalisation. People avoid preaching to their own choir, because it is trivial and pointless. They take their ideals where they aren't known or accepted, and go from there. If they did not, you wouldn't be swinging Smith's sword, and I wouldn't be parrying and riposting in the, 'logic and rational thought' corner.
This video was put up as public propaganda. To make sure, 'official' LDS material outweighs or equals counter propaganda and objective commentary.
Fair point in that I don't know the actual statistic. But I think you clearly underestimate how much "preaching to their own choir" is done.
Take the most prominent and popular pundits, for example. Do you think Rush Limbaugh is talking to left-wing radicals, or vice-versa? It happens a LOT in politics, religion, and many other divisive topics.
Do you think it's a bad thing that we members of the Church want to define ourselves rather than let others do it? That is why this video is up
We don't sent out missionaries to convert people. Missionaries can't convert anyone. Only the Holy Spirit of God can convince anyone of the truth. Missionaries only spread the gospel.
Americans love false modesty. Think of it as an olive branch.
"Why is this "patently absurd?" Because it doesn't fit your paradigm?"
Because, to be blunt, when you have that much assumption and that little evidence, it stinks. Contemporary prophets seeking polygamy are rarely sincere.
"ex-Mormons with an agenda of their own?"
Scientologists offer much the same argument about their critics. Still, your point is valid in some, but not all cases.
"Contemporary prophets seeking polygamy are rarely sincere."
I completely agree. Key word being "rarely", which implies that some ARE sincere. The practice of polygamy was instituted by revelation, it was a bitter pill to swallow for almost all who were asked to practice it, INCLUDING the men. Read their journals as well and you will see the initial reluctance to the practice. They did it because it was a commandment of God.
"I completely agree. Key word being "rarely", which implies that some ARE sincere"
I'm sure Joseph Smith believed he was correct. I'm sure the late L. Ron Hubbard came to believe his own lies, too.
"They did (polygamy) because it was a commandment of god."
When you speak of 'revelation', do you speak of the book, or later Mormon texts? Revelations is highly open to interpretation. And if god stood for polygamy, why would he tell the Israelites one thing, and, 'American Settlers' another?
First, I think your continuous references to Scientology is a red herring. I think it'd serve us both better to focus on the points mentioned, rather than repeated references to another group that has little to no bearing on this topic.
When I speak of 'revelation', I am referring to modern-day revelation, not the book in the Bible. As we believe in modern-day prophets, so we believe in modern-day revelation. To believe that God has stop communicating with His children is a sad concept.
Furthermore, polygamy is Biblical. Look at its practice by such revered Old Testament prophets as Abraham, Jacob, etc. And there are many other examples.
Polygamy should only be practiced when it is commanded by God. In 1890, the Lord commanded the Church to stop the practice of polygamy and of course it has. If there is any member who tries to practice it today, they are excommunicated from the Church.
The entire front page here is a few people reminding themselves how happy they are to be LDS followers.
Mormonism, from what I've read - and I've read official church doctrine - is a sad joke. When a young man who died *very* rich named Joseph Smith - a very ordinary name, if you don't mind me saying, claims an angel named, 'Moroni' directed him buried golden texts, you've got to ask yourself.
How credulous can you *really be*? 'Moroni?' - I swear, Smith was making fun of his own followers.
Hehe! I posted that because I was taken aback. I'm used to arguing with idiots. You are clearly *not* an idiot. I was debating whether I should get into a sincere discussion with you, for fear I'd find myself stomped utterly. ^^
"Joseph Smith sacrificed all he had for the Church, and died poor."
Accepted and acknowledge. Thankyou for pointing that out.
"An ordinary name like Peter or Paul?"
A contemporary man seeking to be named prophet of a polygamous schism strikes me as a glory seeking reprobate, not a prophet of god, or the best thing since Jesus.
"I find your interest in names fascinating. Do you happen to know the names of many angels?"
Not many. 'Moron-i' was pretty memorable though. :P Sounds like a parody.
I can understand that first impression. However, until you learn more about the man, and his role in restoring the Church, then your opinion lacks much foundation. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?
"Moroni was pretty memorable though."
Pronounced Mor-OWN-eye. Pretty weak argument about the name here.
"can understand that first impression. However, until you learn more about the man"
Scientologists say this about L. Ron Hubbard. It doesn't make it true - it just means they are heavily indoctrinated. I currently see a manipulative man who came to believe his own lies and felt some remorse. Thus he dedicated his life to atonement.
"Have you ever read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?"
Not reading propaganda makes me ignorant?
"MorOWNeye"
It is spelt - 'moron-i'. Pronounce it as you wish.
Admittedly you've shown you know little about Joseph Smith. (No offense intended.) You can claim it's indoctrination, I think it's being educated about a topic that you're discussing.
The reason I ask about the Book of Mormon is because if you have not read 'the keystone of our religion' and perhaps Joseph Smith's greatest contribution (as translator), then you perhaps do not have as much credibility as someone who has, rather than relying upon second-hand sources.
I have to agree. People may think, oh man you gotta be president, wake up for seminary, serve a calling, and do talks. Isn't that too much? It really isn't. What mormonism best serves as is comfort and purity in your life. You get taught of what is right and what is wrong. And it isn't a bunch of strict GUIDELINES. Its common sense like don't drink, kill, smoke, do drugs, swear, put yourself in a good environment, and date when you are 16. remember GUIDELINES, NOT RULES. I am 16 WHOOHOO
I think you should look into the LDS church a bit more. If you are referring to hell when you say tortured, you should know that in LDS doctrine, children are all saved and that the majority of people will be saved. They only go to "hell" if they make the wrong choices after knowing the right ones. Now doesn't that seem better?
yikes:( That is a little bit creepy.. what r u suggesting? how is it right for you to suggest for us to "sleep lightly" ...I am not sure I understand where you stand. I urge you to really think about it. I respect your decisions but to suggest a threat...we will never deny our beliefs NEVER. Find a place in your heart to find joy in the journey. Every cloud we see doesn't mean it is going to rain.
Do you HONESTLY think that threats are going to make us suddenly change our beliefs?
You know, I'm not from California, and I don't know how I would have voted on prop 8, but, more and more now that I see this sort of stuff, I think I would have voted for it in a hot minute.
Listen and learn what the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe and tell all of us. It is so great to be able to have anyone and everyone learn what we are all about. Loving each other.
These men have the spirit of God with them is how We know they are True Prophets of God.
Paying attention to their words only bring us closer to the Lord. They are inspiring individuals with only Good fruits to show in their lives. They are true Saints just like the Saints Peter, James and John.
Hear them, come unto Christ like unto a little child, repent and be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
I appreciate the response. What about the testing of the prophets against the Bible? Isn't it possible that satan's ministers can transform themselves into ministers of righteousness? (2 Corinthians 11:15) The "spirit of God" is subject to be tested against scripture to be sure of where it comes from (1 John 4:1). It must be in agreement with the Bible.
What about the Bible, isn't it the proven word of God?
I couldnt agree more! To ignore us as christian is too ignore all that God has done in our lives, all the love he has shown and the prophets who filled with the holy spirit have taught us. So to the True God I say Thank you.
Yes it does say to test anyone claiming to speak for God as a prophet. Joseph Smith failed on several occasions. The LDS gospel is not the same gospel of Christ. It is a works + worthiness = living with God instead of Gods Grace = salvation and to live with God.
Members of the church praise Joseph Smith and his new gospel. The notion of Josephs new gospel must be repeated over and over again. example - I know the bofMormon is true..Is repetition brainwashing? YES!
I would like to point out that though the BIble is indeed of God, there has been about 2000 years since the newest part was written. Though God and the gospel is indeed perfect, man in his transcription is not.
This is why there is such a necessity for modern day prophets, to clarify scripture of the past, and give us modern day revelation pertinent to the current times.
It is important to point out that being a prophet does not exempt one from being human.
Excellent questions. I believe they are true prophets because following their words has brought me closer to Heavenly Father, just as the words of Moses, Isaiah, Matthew, John, and Paul have done. The Spirit of the Lord, or Holy Ghost, is what confirms truth, so as we seek to know what is true, we have to do what brings the Spirit into our lives. Faith, obedience to God's will, and sincere prayer are ways to feel it. I know God answers prayers: He answered your same question for me. Ask Him!
I'm happy being a Mormon!

The notes were printed on a single sheet of white paper, and the rocks were baseball-to-softball size. The double-paned, tempered glass was broken in only one of the churches. In the others, the rock broke through only the first pane of glass and landed outside the buildings.

BigTallOx 2 years ago
What's funny is that you tell people to learn about our "real doctrine", but then tell people to completely disregard the words of our leaders? Don't you see the paradox there?
You also said, "In fact they'll tell you that they don't really believe in the Bible." That is absolutely false. We believe the Bible is the word of God.
However, it appears your comment is meant more to spread half-truths (or outright lies) than to actually share true facts.
lds9999 2 years ago
No, I see no paradox. The leaders are trying to portray the church as something it is not, ie that it's a Christian church. Just like how LDS say joseph smith was just a man in explaining away the completely different versions of the first vision. This leader is also just a man, and although his words sound kind and inviting, people looking into joining the church need to learn the real doctrine.
BigTallOx 2 years ago
Well I sure see the paradox.
TrueSaintsLDS 2 years ago
BigTallOx seems to indicate that different versions of JS's first vision negate and nullify it's validity, therefore making it and the church false. If so, then using his test, all the teachings of Christianity and the Christian church which are based on what Paul taught should also be negated and nullified since in the NT he (Paul) relates three different stories concerning his conversion. How does he handle that disparity? By their fruits...

And additionally, I am not preaching to my own choir here. And Mormons send out missionaries to convert people across the globe. Please. Don't hand the, 'you generalise too much' card to *me* of all people. I'm the worst offender.
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
I didn't say you were preaching to your own choir here. My point was that this is what happens 95%+ of the time in this world.
Besides, if I had wanted to put this video up to be seen primarily by LDS members, I would have titled it much differently. I would have called it something like "General Authorities Talk to the Church during General Conference."
Do you think you would have found it then? Probably not. Instead, I used keywords that non-members search for--like "Mormon."
lds9999 2 years ago
"95% of the world.."
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago 2
Fair point in that I don't know the actual statistic. But I think you clearly underestimate how much "preaching to their own choir" is done.
Take the most prominent and popular pundits, for example. Do you think Rush Limbaugh is talking to left-wing radicals, or vice-versa? It happens a LOT in politics, religion, and many other divisive topics.
Do you think it's a bad thing that we members of the Church want to define ourselves rather than let others do it? That is why this video is up
lds9999 2 years ago
We don't sent out missionaries to convert people. Missionaries can't convert anyone. Only the Holy Spirit of God can convince anyone of the truth. Missionaries only spread the gospel.

"Glad you recognize it as such! :)"
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
"Contemporary prophets seeking polygamy are rarely sincere."
I completely agree. Key word being "rarely", which implies that some ARE sincere. The practice of polygamy was instituted by revelation, it was a bitter pill to swallow for almost all who were asked to practice it, INCLUDING the men. Read their journals as well and you will see the initial reluctance to the practice. They did it because it was a commandment of God.
lds9999 2 years ago
"I completely agree. Key word being "rarely", which implies that some ARE sincere"
I'm sure Joseph Smith believed he was correct. I'm sure the late L. Ron Hubbard came to believe his own lies, too.
"They did (polygamy) because it was a commandment of god."
When you speak of 'revelation', do you speak of the book, or later Mormon texts? Revelations is highly open to interpretation. And if god stood for polygamy, why would he tell the Israelites one thing, and, 'American Settlers' another?
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
First, I think your continuous references to Scientology is a red herring. I think it'd serve us both better to focus on the points mentioned, rather than repeated references to another group that has little to no bearing on this topic.
When I speak of 'revelation', I am referring to modern-day revelation, not the book in the Bible. As we believe in modern-day prophets, so we believe in modern-day revelation. To believe that God has stop communicating with His children is a sad concept.
lds9999 2 years ago

Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
1. "a very rich man"
You apparently have not used accurate sources. Joseph Smith sacrificed all he had for the Church, and died poor.
2. "Joseph Smith - a very ordinary name"
An ordinary name like Peter or Paul?
3. "Moroni"
I find your interest in names fascinating. Do you happen to know the names of many angels?
lds9999 2 years ago
I think I was just pwned thoroughly :P
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
Now I'll agree with that!
lds9999 2 years ago
Hehe! I posted that because I was taken aback. I'm used to arguing with idiots. You are clearly *not* an idiot. I was debating whether I should get into a sincere discussion with you, for fear I'd find myself stomped utterly. ^^
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
"Joseph Smith sacrificed all he had for the Church, and died poor."
Accepted and acknowledge. Thankyou for pointing that out.
"An ordinary name like Peter or Paul?"
A contemporary man seeking to be named prophet of a polygamous schism strikes me as a glory seeking reprobate, not a prophet of god, or the best thing since Jesus.
"I find your interest in names fascinating. Do you happen to know the names of many angels?"
Not many. 'Moron-i' was pretty memorable though. :P Sounds like a parody.
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
"strikes me as a ...."
I can understand that first impression. However, until you learn more about the man, and his role in restoring the Church, then your opinion lacks much foundation. Have you ever read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?
"Moroni was pretty memorable though."
Pronounced Mor-OWN-eye. Pretty weak argument about the name here.
lds9999 2 years ago
"can understand that first impression. However, until you learn more about the man"
Scientologists say this about L. Ron Hubbard. It doesn't make it true - it just means they are heavily indoctrinated. I currently see a manipulative man who came to believe his own lies and felt some remorse. Thus he dedicated his life to atonement.
"Have you ever read the Book of Mormon in its entirety?"
Not reading propaganda makes me ignorant?
"MorOWNeye"
It is spelt - 'moron-i'. Pronounce it as you wish.
Pyramidhead1337 2 years ago
Admittedly you've shown you know little about Joseph Smith. (No offense intended.) You can claim it's indoctrination, I think it's being educated about a topic that you're discussing.
The reason I ask about the Book of Mormon is because if you have not read 'the keystone of our religion' and perhaps Joseph Smith's greatest contribution (as translator), then you perhaps do not have as much credibility as someone who has, rather than relying upon second-hand sources.
lds9999 2 years ago
Joseph Smith died a pauper. Unless he took it with him.
It is rather incredulous, at first, but then, Joseph Smith gave up everything for it.

If only he taught the real church history, it's a shame.

He does teach the "real" Church history.

usbfe,
I have to agree.

At the core, Christianity is a religion of hate because it teaches children that large numbers of people should be and will be tortured.
Apophiswillkillus 3 years ago
I think you should look into the LDS church a bit more. If you are referring to hell when you say tortured, you should know that in LDS doctrine, children are all saved and that the majority of people will be saved. They only go to "hell" if they make the wrong choices after knowing the right ones. Now doesn't that seem better?

all the mormon bigots names who contributed to prop 8 are all over the internet, so we know WHO you all are

Sorry to hear that you didn't get to put a blemish on the founding fathers love of God and Country.

yikes:( That is a little bit creepy.. what r u suggesting? how is it right for you to suggest for us to "sleep lightly" ...I am not sure I understand where you stand. I urge you to really think about it. I respect your decisions but to suggest a threat...we will never deny our beliefs NEVER. Find a place in your heart to find joy in the journey. Every cloud we see doesn't mean it is going to rain.
standaboveit 2 years ago 2
Do you HONESTLY think that threats are going to make us suddenly change our beliefs?
You know, I'm not from California, and I don't know how I would have voted on prop 8, but, more and more now that I see this sort of stuff, I think I would have voted for it in a hot minute.
lindalds 2 years ago 3
I'm not a Mormon but I contributed to prop 8, I feel left out.
Oh... and about your comment to sleep lightly
a) I always do military trained, combat forged.
b) Come and find me I'll solve your problem of insomnia
(Thats the only reason people like you make comments like that, or maybe you want to look tough in front of your friends, I can hear it now.
"Man I really told off those LDSers I never saw them and they cant find me(I hope) bet they were afraid of my threat" (am I a loser?)

Listen and learn what the leaders of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints believe and tell all of us. It is so great to be able to have anyone and everyone learn what we are all about. Loving each other.

How do you know that these men are really prophets of God?
Doesn't the Bible say to test the prophets to see if they agree with the Bible?
Isn't the Bible proven to be true, by God's signature of fulfilled prophecies? Isn't there evidence that the Bible says what it said originally?
Does everyone that believes the LDS prophets test them according to scripture?
iswhatyoubelievetrue 3 years ago
These men have the spirit of God with them is how We know they are True Prophets of God.
Paying attention to their words only bring us closer to the Lord. They are inspiring individuals with only Good fruits to show in their lives. They are true Saints just like the Saints Peter, James and John.
Hear them, come unto Christ like unto a little child, repent and be baptized in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost.
It's the only one that counts!
TrueChurchLDS 3 years ago
I appreciate the response. What about the testing of the prophets against the Bible? Isn't it possible that satan's ministers can transform themselves into ministers of righteousness? (2 Corinthians 11:15) The "spirit of God" is subject to be tested against scripture to be sure of where it comes from (1 John 4:1). It must be in agreement with the Bible.
What about the Bible, isn't it the proven word of God?
iswhatyoubelievetrue 3 years ago

AtmanIncarnate 3 years ago 3
Excellent questions. I believe they are true prophets because following their words has brought me closer to Heavenly Father, just as the words of Moses, Isaiah, Matthew, John, and Paul have done. The Spirit of the Lord, or Holy Ghost, is what confirms truth, so as we seek to know what is true, we have to do what brings the Spirit into our lives. Faith, obedience to God's will, and sincere prayer are ways to feel it. I know God answers prayers: He answered your same question for me. Ask Him!
