The Iphone has come a long way since then, it is faster, sleeker, more affordable, has more features such as GPS, and above all supports thousands of free and low cost applications. I agree with your comment. You could claim the iphone is pure entertainment. But in terms of practicality... the iphone can be purchased by a person with average income and used in many ways on a daily bases. A robot playing the violin is cool, but not affordable to millions, and even if the price came down, it is a product of little daily relevance (look at the robot pets in extinction) and little impact aside from being on display for guests. That is what I mean by not being practical.

I see. But I see many uses. Firstly, ya gotta admit that playing in a band with a bunch of robots would be pretty cool. They would never quit the band and wouldn't make mistakes. I could even practice with them or impress my friends and potential companions.

The purpose of all of these gadgets is to make it possible to create technology that can both take up less space and aid us in our daily lives. The robot the plays the violin may seem pointless, but it is in fact a stepping stone toward more advanced robots which are able to do much more. The cars that are able to aid the drivers were created as a means of reducing fatalities. So unless you've created something amazing and world changing, don't talk down to people who are well on their way.
