  • If Ayrton Senna was alive, he'll be the champion this season and also the 1997 season!!!

  • *1962 and 1968, but we forgive you!

  • This was one of my earliest F1 memories, I got up early in the morning to watch this in England, I'd always loved watching Damon, he was the perennial nice guy in F1 and a truly great driver

He was cruelly denied/cheated out of the championship in 94, he was the best driver in that season too but Schumacher (great driver though he is) had a nasty streak that won out in the end.

Anyway, great memories, love Murray's commentary. Williams made a mistake in getting rid of Hill and they paid for it

  • @JackRabbitSlim Damn right they made a mistake, I hated them for it. I was only 8.

  • Good year to be born

  • I would like to imagine what Senna could acheive with that car! ;D

    A truly beast ;)

  • miss williams BMW!!!

i hope Williams Renault takes some wins 2012!!!!

  • @MegaAble1234 I miss that Williams-Rotham-Renault =(....I really hope that Williams would be able to improve in the following years...its so sad to see them where they are right now...

  • @ThePsgan

    Ah yes, my mistake.

  • Didn't Murray confuse Graham Hill with Jim Clark? The 1962 and 1965 championship was won by Jim Clark.

  • @55DJL Graham Hill World champion 1962 , 1968 , Jim Clark - 1963 , 1965 , Murray confused one year only - 1965

  • hills we're such a cheatin scumbag britt he never shud hav won this titles he only ever drove shoemaker of the road in the f1 he shud have bin banned

  • @MrThreshold2009 lol, have you ever watched F1? Schumacher cheated against Hill in 94 and tried to do the same to Villeneuve in 97, that's why he was disqualified. stop living in fantasy land, no good will come of it.

  • williamsrenault com FAN PAGE online, but under construction. Will be fully online mid 2012. Chat, Memorabilia, News etc. Get your own "yourname(a)williamsrenault com" email address.

  • The emotion in Murray Walker's voice is something I've never heard from him before.

  • A richly deserved championship...

  • I was 2 when i saw this live. And i still remember it. Deserves every second of it.

  • love this, jesus, damon worked his ass off for this, total respect

  • Maybe in a few years commentators will be saying the same about his son Josh.

  • I'm named after him :)

  • Brilliant little Canadian. Lol. Walker's voice is greatly missed. What a magic moment in F1 history, Damon was my favourite active driver!

  • Actually Graham hill won it twice in 1962 and 1968 not like what Murray said in 62 and 65 and no body can ever bring the enthusiastic feel that Murray brings to the sport he is the best ever.

  • @proximer217 Murray is the BEST!!! "He's IN the pits... I'll Stop my startwatch when the wheels stop ~ NOW!" LMAO - big love Murray. F1 is at a loss without you! =D

  • @LeiKaEr thats right man :)

  • Such an amazing moment. I got up early to watch it like so many Britons. And God bless Murray, he is such an enthusiast.

  • God speed Damon Hill!

  • He still holds one record: starting from the front row in every race of a season.

  • Them wings need to make a come back, never mind Renualt + Williams.

  • i wonder why the shitty Frank Williams dropped him. Arrows totally destroyed his career.

  • Arrows totally ruined Damon's career.

  • Murray Walker-- man F1 is not the same without his voice

  • that car was awesome miss these days

  • Dissapearing Ferrari at 8 seconds...

  • Murray Walker: The Voice of Motorsport!

  • Poor williams, shame to see them perform so poorly for so long, hope they can make a comeback

  • @NorbPwn Private team will never win again unfortunately

  • @jaryd12345 Red bull racing is considered a private team isnt it? Horner and Newey both claimed so.

  • @NorbPwn But it's not though is it ha. They can say what you like but you know the sense I mean, the Williams company exists to go racing in F1 and that is all.

  • @jaryd12345 McLaren are a private team by your definition; they exist solely to go racing!

  • @jonchapple Not true, McLaren F1, McLaren Mercedes.

  • @jaryd12345 The road car business is a tiny, niche market that's an offshoot of the racing team rather than the other way round, i.e. backed by a car manufacturer (Mercedes GP, Lotus Renault, the old Toyota, Honda, BMW teams, etc.) Mercedes no longer have any stake in the team and are merely an engine supplier.

  • @jonchapple Well if you knew that why did you say they exist SOLEY to go racing. I don't argue with people who try and win with lieees :-D

  • @jaryd12345 OK, poor choice of words. They're a racing team first and foremost, then. That's why they're privateers. They're not a works team.

  • @jonchapple Basically, the fact of the matter is, call it what you want, forget the terminology, you are aware what sort of team I mean with Williams, just like Jordan or Tyrell no team like that is ever going to have real success in F1 again.

  • @jaryd12345 I do know what you mean, but McLaren are one of that generation of classic British "garagistes", they've just been successful enough to keep up with the changing world of F1. Tyrrell, Brabham, March, Lotus, etc. couldn't. And yeah, it looks like Williams may end up going the same way unless they make some fairly major changes.

  • i love ur videos about the old times lets hope williams win this year a race tomyx83 !

  • " and i've got to stop because i've got a lump in my throat "

    epic murray :)

  • LOVED HIM

  • my father was on the same plane damon in canada and he singed his ticket.

  • 'world champion of 62 and 65'....surely Murray meant 68?

  • @Goron333 Yeah wasn't it Jim Clark in 65?

  • Just love Murray's commentary.

  • Great vid

  • "...Michael Schumacher passes Damon Hill but too late." :)

I've uploaded this video because this was the greatest sport experience in my life. I was 14 then. Good old times...

Thanks for the lot of comments that you have done during the years!

  • @Tomyx82 I was 14 too when I watched him win!

  • @Tomyx82 Have ever watched the world cup lol Well I guess its your opinion

  • From this period F1 went downhill

  • Je 'taime Damon Hill. :-)

  • I know it's probably irrelevant but imagine what F1 would've been like if the V10's from the 1994-6 seasons were producing the amount of power as they were 10yrs later! Hill, Shuie, Senna Mika etc with over 900bhp.. would've been impressive to see

  • @Suprahampton

I think Kimi driving the immensively powerful McLaren MP4/20 to 7 wins, including a win from 17'th on the grid in Suzuka, Japan was enjoyable enough.

  • Hová tünt Damon Hill? kérem szépen.... Hová tünt Damon Hill?

  • @portorato - speak a REAL language!

  • People have accused me of favouring Damon Hill at the expense Jacques Villenueve, belive me that is not the case. No body has more aIdmrartion for the brilliant little Canadian than I have. Classic Murray - we love you

  • It's a real shame Williams, my local team (I live a few miles from the factory) aren't a world championship winning team at the moment. I am sure they'll get back on top soon enough. Barrichello is a great drive but the car needs to be stronger.

  • Wouldn't it be sad if he crashed on the last lap and didn't win the title? He's one of the best ever british world champs, with stewart and button.

  • @MegaSparky555 He had already won the title because Villenueve crashed earlier.

  • @quietconfidence What if Villenueve didn't crash earlier?

  • @MegaSparky555 At the start of the race, Damon had a 9 point lead over Villenueve, so in order for Damon to lose the championship, he had to finish 7th or worse, and Villenueve had to win the race.

  • @quietconfidence Are you trying to start an arguement or something?

  • @MegaSparky555 What argument? You said "Wouldn't it be sad if he crashed on the last lap and didn't win the title?" I'm just saying that even if he had crashed, he would have won the title anyways. You asked 2 questions and I answered 2 questions politely.

  • "...and I've got to stop because I've got a lump in my throat".

Gets me every time. Thanks Murray!

  • @pjwaddell - Tearful happy night for me too! ;-)

  • Best looking Williams so far.

I liked how they sometimes carried their flags after a victory, when victories meant something and F1 was more about racing.

  • @supernovaxxxl

the williams of 1995 was beautiful as well.

  • I love Schumi but I never forget he was a cheating cunt in 94! Damon is a legend. Late starter, hard grafter, highly intelligent and a thinker.

  • just look at the epic point count...nowa days they made points so worthless as they spread so much of them around :(

  • murray walker and damon hill are both legends.

also i love how just about every track back then had Foster's as a sponsor (Y)

  • Damon Hill, no matter what happened after this race, will ALWAYS be the greatest driver ever in F1 to me. I woke up one sunday morning (I was 9 years old), never watched F1 before, and I managed to catch the last few laps of this. This race, this lap, this man got me in to Formula One. And it makes it even more special to know that he clawed his way up to get the championship. This is motoracings Cinderella Man. No question. God bless you Damon!

  • Also its quite natural that Murray was emotional Other than being a british, Damon's personal story is very moving. He lost his father in an air crash very early and he struggled through sever financial hardships working menial jobs early in his life. Also he and georgie hill had a down's baby as their first child just before he made it to formula 1. So I can understand why Murray would feel a bit emotional about Damon's victory.

  • "and I'm going to have to stop because I have a lump in my throat"

  • Still my favourite F1 lap, and always will be... always make me well up and remember waking up early as a 7 year old boy wanting my hero to win the world championship.

  • damon was the 1st driver to win a world championship only to find out his team didnt renew is contract for the next year.......

  • Such an emotional moment... it was worth losing a night's sleep to watch it, and Murray's 'I've got to stop, because I've got a lump in my throat' is truly one of the great commentary moments.

  • @PaulCastle001 He is the best, made a few boobs but they are so funny

  • murray walker, what a hero!

  • i am afraid williams will never win the world championship again.

  • @SearchRodge never say never

  • Oh classic Murrayism... Graham was champ in 62 & 68... Long live Murray, he should be contracted to do the British GP

  • @Suprahampton 62&65 my friend

  • @mattsvrguy Please look Graham Hill up, you'll find he was world champ in 62 & 68.

Jim Clark was world champ 63 & 65.....

  • @Suprahampton but walker said hill was champ in 62 & 65

  • @mattsvrguy Indeed he did, but what made everyone LOVE Murray was his mistakes.. .which became known as "Murrayisms"...

  • @Suprahampton oh right sorry, I didn't actually watch F1 when Murray was around

  • he talks about the son becoming world champion as well being a new thing, and what happened in 97? villeneuve won, weird, mind you damon probably would have won again if it wasnt thanks to frank making the most retarded decision in his life

  • @MegaMrDamo Vileneurve's dad never won the championship. Damon is still 14yrs later the ONLY 2nd generation champ

  • I hope williams now will come to this..........

  • IU hope williams now will come to this..........

  • Murray Walker is a legend! Pls bring him back to commentary of F1! This is one of the biggest moments of F1 racing :) Never heard Murray being so much choked up as he was that time! Damon and Murray, may you not be forgotten. For your lifelong dedication to Formula 1. I have a huge lump in my throat too, every time I see this.

  • "I've got to stop, because i've got a lump in my throat." Bless him :)

  • Arise Sir Murray 'Graeme' Walker .

  • That was his wife Georgie at 2:21 wasn't it?

  • @darthbandon10 ...yes, Georgie is so cute...lucky Damon i think :-)

  • @craig1980blue Not so lucky when one of your kids has Downs syndrome though..

  • @MrIrishlogic He gathered a broken team around him, gave them focus, faught back to bring the championship to the last round... I'd say that was deserved

  • Still makes me smile, remember it like it was yesterday :-) my all time favourite F1 driver x

  • Greatest piece of motorsport commentary of all time.

  • '68 Murray... The late (and very great) Jim Clark won in 1965 :P

  • Williams Renault at 2011 please! Cosworth = Not Good enought!

  • Williams with Newey as car designer, with Damon Hill as driver and car developer and with that V10 Renault engine..

..and how they were robbed back then in 2003 by the deserved titleS,

Please, Williams, come back again infront.. you're missed so much from the front grid of the Grand Prix

  • a proud moment for GREAT britain. Just a shame he didn't win it 1994........ that stupid German!!

  • wait graham hill was champion in 1962 and 1968, jim clark was champion in 1965

  • @hmdwgf you are very right about that me and my bro were thinkin that to

  • i wish williams will be a dominating team again

  • What is it he has to do at the end? the very last sentence?

  • He's a double world champion in my eyes. 1994 and 1996

  • @01simmenj I don't like MS (to not say I hate him...) but I have to admitt he was faster than Damon. Is bad move in Australia is unforgivable. But in pure speed, he was the best in 1994 with a less good car. (JJ Letho and Verstappen... nowhere with the Benetton)

About penalities, I don't know if he deserve it... maybe sometimes yes, sometimes no.

  • revolution car

  • God, I miss Murray Walker.

  • This is the best commentary ever. Murray Walker you flipping legend.

  • what is a "lump"?

  • "I've got to stop because I've got a lump on my throat!" Pure emotion right there!

  • Damon Hill = great driver and a true gentleman.

  • Comment removed

  • Whenever I see this a tear comes to my eye when you hear Murray welling up just before the finish.

  • @GIANTreed1 VERY THX YOU MAN!!! I WAS LOOKING FOR THAT COMMENTATOR SINCE LONG TIME!!!! Fuck he rules. I cant never forget the f1 1995 psone game. My head went like "WOWOWOWOWOWO"

  • what a beatiful car

  • best looking era of f1 imo

  • @VenomRam YES i miss him !

  • @VenomRam yeah, miss the rothmans colors in motor racing...

  • How bad it would be if James Allen was comentating on this race.

    'YES!! VILNEUVE'S CRASHED!!!' utter stupid

  • f1 moments like this ever get old, incredible

  • Murray was actually wrong. He said Graham Hill was the worlds champion in 1962 and 1965 - the former was correct, the latter was wrong. Graham took his second and final wc in 1968. 1965 belonged to the Scot Jim Clark.

  • Nice one Damon for your good work towards keeping The British Grand Prix at Silverstone

  • I think Damon could have won the championship again had Williams kept him, for me Villeneuve's championship didn't stack up with Damon's, never mind Schumacher or Hakkinen's wins in the 90's era

  • agreed, he should have won the year be4 aswell

  • "And Damon Hill exits the chicane and wins the Japanese grand prix and i've got to stop...because i've got a lump in my throat!"

Don't you just love Murray? I'm a M Schumacher fan but congrats to Damon, he fully deserved it, Damon Hill was a credit to British Motorsport. A true gentleman and a worthy champion. The same goes for Jenson. I still have fond memories of the Pizza Hut ad that Murray and Damon did. Ahh great times :)

  • Damon was my childhood hero... Now when Jenson won, I felt almost the same...

  • Very emotional end to a championship!! Think I can firmly say there has never been a F1 season like it since!!

For some reason I have no emotion when Hamilton and even Button won it!?!?

  • Because they are both unlikely champions. I think it was Flavio Briatore who said "the wrong guy in the wrong car is leading the championship".

  • unlikely doesn't mean undeserving...

  • best bit murray say i have got to stop because i have a lump in my throat

  • Agreed

  • can you post the end montage broadcast.

  • Murray Walker the best commentator!!! Shame Jenson couldnt win the title like Damon did in Suzuka!!

  • Williams should have kept Hill for 1997 instead of signing Frentzen. He would probably have beaten Villeneuve again or at least been a better support.

Oh, and Damon Hill won his title aged 36, whereas Schumacher won his last title in 2004 aged 35....

  • Clone him before he got alzheimers... no disrespect <.< It really sint quite the same ..

  • For me, these were the golden days of F1. And god how I miss Murray!

  • Someone should clone him, I doubt we will ever have another commentator as great as him

  • Could not agree with you more!!

  • My favourite year, my favourite driver in my favourite team! What a great moment...I clearly remember of this fantastic race. Well done, Damon!

  • I think the 1996 cars and liveries were the best ever!

  • Thanks very much for posting. Murray Walker's line "and I've got to stop, because I've got a lump in my throat" is my all-time favourite sporting moment, and Damon is my all-time favourite F1 driver. May not have had the raw pace of Schumacher, but by God he was a grafter and a gentleman too.

  • Remember wataching this live like it was yesterday!! My favourite driver of all time :¬) xx

  • E ae quando que a williams vai voltar a ser grande hein????

  • Hill drove his Williams at Goodwood Festival of Speed this year

  • the 1996 williams ranault would get podiums in todays f1...hell of a good car

  • rothamans williams.. nicest and best F1 cars to date. after jacques it went down hill from there.

  • Totally aggree with you there m8 ... those cars where the only reason i watched f1 .. showed the other teams how to make a f1 car and to win & win & take many a world championships !! ... never expected them to just fall the way they have like ......

  • ¡Excellent! He's such a gentleman, and an outstanding pilot.

His 1994 World Championship was stolen from him by Schumacher. It should be his second one.

  • that 1996 williams renault was a good car

  • Best F1 car ever seen - williams never been the same since ;(

  • @246DEK74 Of course, RENAULT engine of late 80's and 90's is the best motor ever in F1 ! In 6 years, 92 to 97, 6 manufacturers championship.

And 64 victories in less 99 races, and very, very rare brake. Even Ferrari in 6 years to 99-2004 and 103 races didn't had so much victories !

    France rules, bravo viry-chatillon ! ^^

  • because Damon Hill made it good

he was a very good development driver, Williams hired him in 1992 already to test for them

  • 0:25 - Murray getting his facts wrong as usual... lol

    Great vid, thanks!

  • Lol, he's right.

  • Oh, I guess you meant a bit later, the '1965'. Yeah, that should be 1968.

  • I remember getting up at 5am to watch this when I was 6 and it was such a great race

  • same here i was the same age and everythin lol

  • Yeh me too lol ... takes ya back lol

  • lol what a podium ..hill/schumacher/hakkinen... all the top drivers of the 90ies :D

  • Damon Hill was my childhood hero, and this is THE most favourite sporting moment of my life, and always will be. Having the 94 title stolen from him made this one just so sweet.

  • in fact 1994 schumacher won deserved.. the accident was hills fault. but 1996 was his season ..from face 1 to 16 ... started everytime in the 1st row... i think nobody will do that again.

  • You have to get real....Schumi crashed Hill out of the race on purpose! He tried it in 97 will Jacques Villenueve and that occassion the FIA did the right thing and kick him out of the championship

  • yes, it's too bad Schumacher got away with a load of shit over the years

it's like normal rules didn't apply to him

Montreal 1998, nearly rammed Frentzen out coming from the pits. Silverstone 1998, drove into the pits in the finish and simply added 10 seconds to his finished time, which was a travesty!!

parking his car in Monaco in 2006, in order to stop others from outqualifying him

oh, and his fixed win in Austria in 2002, forcing Barrichello to let him pass the last seconds
