I've never liked these so called survival horror games that give you automatic weapons or some other ridiculous arsenal. True survivor horror games need to be a bit closer to home. Silent hill, Penumbra, Amnesia all have odd elements but they never became easier later on due to ridiculous weaponry. The player needs a sense of helplessness to truly be frightened.

thanks for putting condemed 2 in there. I'm not sayin this game was scary, but you have to give it credit due to the fact of it being just evil all around. The Darkness did have its scary parts like being in hell and discovering the 4 "horsemen". But the game did remain a badass shooter with the scary still present.

Evil but only for the GC they should remake all of them up to 4 for all the systems and if they could somehow incorporate the over the shoulder style of 4 and 5 that would be awesome but i went started playing RE1 again and even though the graphics aren't the greatest the game is still kick ass

My friend show me couple years ago a game similar to resident evil. The intro was stylized into old documentary film. It ens with creepy voice "you will become one of us".

The first episode was in small village (mostly graveyard) and you have to escort survivors into local church, fight zombie human, cows and other stuff.

When you play Amnesia, you'll wonder how anyone could think something like Doom 3 or Dead Space is even remotely scary, I mean, I sure wish I had a FREAKING MINIGUN to hide behind in Amnesia.

oh, and F.E.A.R. is on your list? .......lol? I strongly reccommend you (or anyone who thinks Dead Space is scary) play Amnesia, then you'll see these games as a breath of fresh, un-scary air.

For me, i find the list stopped being scary mostly around # 4. come on, resident evil 2 WAS awesome, but i don't find it that scary. two more complaints. 1: doom 3 at # 7 ? man, that game deserved # four or something. and 2: Why silent hill 4?? don't get me wrong it's certainly scarier than the newer ones, but come on! silent hill 1, 2, and 3 were MUCH scarier than 4. Fun fact: did you know that at first, SH4 was supposed to be part of a different series, but it became SH4 for some reason.
