What new is being introduced here? The same old image of daily monotony affecting the lives of nearly everyone? That we're sheep being herded? Sure. Agreed. But what else could this video have offered? What other kind of spin off that same old story?

i have to agree with your first comment there pfranks44 but i do understand the cinematography; they tried to make it look as though she was the only one (or she FELT she was the only one) going att normal speed whilst everyone else were bustling around hardly thinking about what they were doing.

I liked the concept of it. as others have said, it does evoke a sense of emptiness and meaningless.

But I have to say, I dont really like how it was filmed. I didnt like the cinematography very much at all. quite boring in that sense

its not an off choice of sound effects, everyone has a meaning!! Eg, everyone in a city does the same thing as everyone else, a bit like sheep, following the same daily routine sticking together, like a flock.

i think she realized that she was matching the speed and seriousness of everyone around her, so she decided to go at her own pace and be more relaxed about getting from point A to point B.

im not saying its a masterpiece buts it better than most short films i watch and i bet it was a whole lot cheaper and used a 1000 times less man power to make. proof if proof was needed that 'production values' are valueless compared with interesting ideas and creativity with the medium - so long as you can look through the gloss of the tv-advert-like sheen of high budget shorts and compare the real meat of what the viewing experience is

the filmmaker has only arrogantly commented on this type of lifestyle as dull and boring. It is too opinionated. Furthermore, I cant see any type of story. There is no change, no drama or conflict which is vital to any story.

1- what makes it arrogant?

2 - its not opinionated its expressive.

3- simple ideas are best

4 - the story is of a day in the life of the character, drama is not needed for good cinema if you want drama watch hollyoaks, the conflict is internal and subtle - the most interesting kind. and to say 'vital for any story' makes me think youve been reading too many scriptwriting A level books.

in short, mike figgis is a great filmmaker and you sir are wrong!
