Did you buy the large corals those sizes or did they grow that size in your tank? if so, how long did it take for them to reach those incredible sizes?
@millo1143 For reef tanks flow should be anywhere between 25X and 35X tank capacity per hour. Hard corals need a ton of water movement. Use two powerheads at each end aimed at the front center of the bowfront to create max turbulence. They should be 500 gph or more each.
What a great tank!! I like it very much!! Do you have any issue of having high nitrates when using canister filter? How frequest do you clean your filter and what media do you put in the filter? Sorry for asking too much but can't resist you have sucha great reef tank with canister. This proof that not necessary you need a sump in order to have a nice reef tank like yours.
@pulamaepp Thanks. My Nitrates are almost nondetectable. Given all the coral I cram in there I'm lucky I suppose. I think having the Cheatomorpha algea soak it up in the HOB refugium/skimmer really helps since I have to harvest alot of it weekly. I keep Neo Zeo, reef carbon and Seachem Matrix for Biologocal media in the canister filter and only clean it about once every 5-6 weeks. And I change about half the water monthly. Simple as that!
Awesome tank! You have an amazing amount of coral for a tank so young, beautiful. I have a 46 bow as well converted from fish only to a reef back in late August.
@dirttrackracer99 Thanks man. I'm not a big fan of those really deep blue lighted systems. I like keeping it more natural and maximizing my PAR for explosive coral growth so I can sell my frags faster. I run 2 UV Aquasuns, 2 ATI Blue Plus & 2 ATI Aquablue Special T5 HO lamps. Each are 39w for a total of 234 Watts = just over 5 W per gallon.
