  • motor purrs like a kitten

  • what year did they not have the corner windows in the cab im trying to date mine thats been in our shop for 15 years

  • @tssracing14: All these trucks had corner windows available as an option. It was innovative for the time and relatively inexpensive so many people opted for it. There are many little clues you can use to identify the years of these trucks: hand-pulled emergency brake, 1947; gas filler on the side of the bed 47-48; vent windows in door glass 1951 and later; push-button door handles 52-54; one-piece windshield, 1954.

  • Very cool! Our uncle, who lived on a farm near Onaga KS. had a truck like this, not sure what the year was, but it was a neat old yellow one. He called it the "Yellasonuvabitch." - which makes me think it might not have run quite so well.?? Ha ha Anyway, great truck! Nice work!

  • With the 235, especially if it is a '54 to '62, it would have a pressurized lubrication system with a pump, unlike the 216 which was a babbit type which had slingers to splish, splash the oil inside the motor. I once had a '51 3/4 ton Chevy with a 235 from a '56 Chevy in it.

  • i want these wheels i cant find them used anywhere have two need two or some close to these .. cool truck man very nice

  • WOW .. beautiful, you are a lucky man brother!

  • how much would u sell it kuz it turns me on

  • looks like crap

  • If you put a 235 in it, then it is not original. However, it is still a beautiful truck, very nice!

  • @sethagreen So true! There are a few things on the truck that arn't totally original, but I did keep everything in case I ever do a full resto. Thanks for looking.

  • Very Nice!

  • I would personal shake your hand and thank you for keeping it original. Not destroying it and making a low rider out of it.

  • Blue Chip Truck !

  • Would you consider selling it?

  • Simply wonderful!

  • What a beautiful truck, take good care of it. Very Nice!!

  • Thats Beautiful....

  • This is my 51 chevy what a classic!

  • Beautiful truck in original condition. Nice to see one that's not hot-rodded or chopped. Gorgeous!

  • That is one of the cleanest, most pristine original trucks that I have seen in many years. I just subbed, hopefully we will see more of this fine truck.

  • well done my friend, art and history mixed up perfectly!!

  • Cool truck . Thanks for the video .

  • chevy's sure as hell made the best cars in the 50's and 60's.

  • That sure is a pretty truck. Im 16 years old and just got a 1951 Chevrolet just like it. It sat out in my barn for years, but belonged to another lady. It has the origional 216. All the mechanics are fine on it, but the body needs work. Iv been trying to decide what color I should paint it. I can't get past the classic black.

I couldn't help but notice that yours is not completely original. It has an alternator instead of a generator, and probably has been converted to 12V. Nice truck!

  • @sethagreen It's good to hear that a 16 year old is interested in these old trucks! If you get the 216 running, just make sure to keep it cool, mine overheated. I switched to 12V because my 235 came with the alternator. The 6v works okay, but you will never get stranded with 12v running that starter.

Black looks good on these trucks, off white too, but dark green was the standard color and is most common

  • @oldblue1951 I thought black was standard and green was the option?

  • @wchworld It was not by choice, the 216 overheated and either the head cracked or it blew a head gasket. The 235 is a much better engine.

  • This truck is not 1951, the truck 51 has no spare wheel next to the fenders, is until 1952 when it has the spare wheel

  • que preciosidad de pick-up, una joya...

  • you should show more videos of the truck. I is really interesting to see these

  • thats a bad ass truck not for its looks but for its history too and its looks

  • I wish I had that! I have always loved chev trucks and want one that is that nice. To bad the 216 died. Thats sorry to hear!

  • Wow, that's a beauty. Do your grandfather proud and take good care of it. Its pristine!

  • very nice pick up .nice to see an orginal truck , i have a 3100 1953 ,red with black fenders , it is original californian truck and mine maxes out at 95 mph but seems better at around 50 mph

  • damn!

  • what gears are you running in the rear. I am about to put in the 255's. I hope it does the trick. I would like to go freeway speeds. You have a good looking truck. I have a five window 1950 3100 and love it.

  • It still has the 410 gears. It maxes out at 45 or 50; the 255's are a great idea. Are you changing the rearend or just the ring and pinion?

  • Im gonna keep the ring and pinion. Patricks sells the whole set up, but you half to wait a while to get it in the mail. I waited almost a year. I still have the closed drive shaft and all. I wanna throw in the saginaw tranny and new gears. I heard that it will cruise at 75 with both. I have the same set up as you with the 4 speed in the floor. Also the metal brackets that line the inside of your window are real keepers. Those are super hard to find!

  • "have" sorry for the spelling error

  • paint it yourself for less than $1000. It's really a lot of fun.

  • i have a 69 goat and get 8 mpg .. what do these early inline 6's get?

    thanks, Mike.

  • asking that because i own the same truck, and i am STUMPED. i know its not seized, i just havent the slightest as to how it ignites...ugh

  • and pray tell, hoping that the ignition is original, how do you start it????

  • Simple, just turn the key on and step on the foot starter to the right of the gas pedal.

  • i have a 51 4x4 same body(5 window) check it out

  • Nice looking truck but just to be picky you know that the side mounted spare didn't come out until 1953.

  • NICE!

  • How could it be original with seat belts?

  • I added the belts because my kids love to ride in the truck. The trucks blue color is also a little lighter than it was originally. You can see the factory paint color on the firewall.

  • Ok that's what I thought, I have a GMC 3/4 ton 51 also no seat belts, personally I could live with out but my little sister likes to ride in it so I may put some in how much did your pain job cost?

  • Here in CA we have a seatbelt law. You are exempt if they were not originally equipped, but when you put them in you have to use them or get a ticket. Not sure how much the paint job cost. My grandfather had the truck painted in the 70's. I hope to repaint it back to the original blue for about $5,000.

  • That's the price I was thinking, mine was also a blue. I don't have the spare tire thing though. What kind of wood is the bed, do you know?

  • The wood is the original yellow pine, but some of it has dry rot.

  • How long has the wood been in? Sence the 70's? How long has the dry rot been around?

  • kewl im restoring a 51 chevy pickup into a restorod

  • Wow, very clean. What happened to the original 216? That 235 is CLEAN!! awesome. Check out my 52.

  • I still have the original 216, it overheated and the head cracked. The babbitted engines are so expensive to rebuild that I decided to put in 235 instead. It was a tough decision because all other running gear is factory original.

  • Great Truck,Im Restoring a 1961 Chevy Truck to all original, thanks for posting!!
