  • Nice cover. Like the dirty tone you have with the song. My only dig, and I'm guilty of this myself, is not looking at the camera while recording. Your playing is good reflect that with attitude and look at the audience

  • @Schecterman2003 Thanks a lot, I would look at the audience if they were in-person since you're more-or-less bouncing the energy back and forth, but it's kind of tough (for me anyway) to do it for a camera without coming off as looking arrogant, a sort of "oooo you know I'm cool" thing, or at least that's what I get the impression of most of the time whenever I see guitarists do that.

  • Freaking excellent!! You got both acoustic AND electric without error. KUDOS to you!!!!!!!!!!

  • Randy Rhoads forever, excelent cover man.

  • @soulreaverdoug thanks very much

  • you kind of look like cliff burton, with a hint of dave mustaine. anyways nice job man.

  • @Charbok12 thanks a lot

  • you are like young zakk with ozzy's hair LMAO! great cover man

  • fantastic!

  • @WeepBeforeYouSleep thanks a lot!

  • you rock. i've been playing for over 20 years and i like your style. you're precise and intuitive, so dont stop what you're doing... i just wish we still had a guitar hero like Hendrix, SRV, or Rhoads. I guess it's up to us...

  • @roybalizer thanks a lot, and I certainly won't stop.

  • Hey that was great! You put it together nicely and it flows well. For a single instrument it just fucking rocks bro.Would sound so excellent with a bass and a good drummer there to support your work.Anyway, as a guitar player myself i can appreciate that this is not a beginners tune to trifle with.I beleive you have it done real justice.Rock on brother ^5!

  • @LutherRayable thanks very much!

  • @landa4ewer I've noticed more often than not that's usually the case (no guitarists) or they DO play but aren't up to par and/or they're not secure with their ability....the truly good players don't hate/take chops at others because they're secure with themselves so there's no need. I wouldn't consider myself 'truly good', but even I never felt the need to hit 'dislike' or hate on another guitarist's videos.

  • @landa4ewer thanks a lot, not perfect but certainly not bad either considering it's live and unaccompanied.

  • If you pay attention you will realize that this piece written by Randy Rhoads guitar is scary, is dismal, for so I say it is Ozzy's best song, good job!

  • Rock on dude.

  • great job man a please can u give me a tab or a guitar pro tab

  • @jake7147 thanks very much, unfortunately I didn't go by any online tabs, I used the "Diary of a Madman" tab book version as the basic layout.

  • @ahenn84 ooo well nice work

  • You have such a perfect clean tone coming from the amp, great cover

  • Nice KH3

  • nice job!

  • @JM13121 thanks a lot!

  • i love this guy and most of hsi vids but where is the solo he skipped it, its not that hard and the vid says full length

  • @grimcow4000 First off, read the description, second, 'full length' is accurate, it is the full song rhythm-wise (the main foundation)...my videos say 'with solo(s)' in the title if I have them...lastly, show me how it's done then, if the solo isn't that hard, do it within a live take of the entire song without overdubbing it and see how well you do. Not even Rhoads himself played this song live...and I'm willing to bet the reason was far more than just "Ozzy had trouble with the timing".

  • @ahenn84 sorry man your 100% right, i mean im not going to argue guitars with your decades ahead sorry i was just suprised cause you nailed the killer of giants solo

  • @grimcow4000 I appreciate the apology, I was simply explaining myself, and for the most part the reason why I was able to do the "Killer of Giants" solo well was because it was part luck and also it was a later video than this one so I improved a little...actually, this video was somewhat of a turning point, because every video after this one which has a solo: I play it / don't skip it.

  • 16 madmen

  • This one of my favourites from Ozzy and Rhandy Rhodes...great job! Yeah opinions are like assholes, everyone has one unfortunately because its probably the people that have absolutley no talent on guitar that hit the thumbs down button. True guitarists that know what goes into learning a song and that have an average intelligence, know what it takes to do what you've just done! Congrats on all the hits!

  • Well Done! You are one of the better players I've seen on YouTube.

  • Great cover man, and thats a kickass guitar

  • @larrythao1994 thanks a lot

  • awesome!!!

  • Awesome....GREAT JOB!!

  • @kenoz71 thanks very much

  • anyone who has ever tried to play guitar knows its not easy, especially Randys stuff with the classical influence, nice job brother!

  • @chickabuka thanks a lot!

  • Man I knew you looked familiar I was playing my "Liked" playlist and I saw your Killer of Giants that you had did, liked that a while back. Last week I found your Revelation Mother Earth and now DOAM cover. Great job! Now I got to go listen to all of them.

  • Who could the people be that dislike this? Excellent job!

  • @jeffsond thanks very much, yeah people will hit 'dislike' no matter how well the overall effort is. They're either haters and/or people who nitpick about anything...because it's unaccompanied, or they don't like the tone, or in the case of this and a few other of my earlier videos: no solo...but I learned that doesn't matter because even in the videos where I do all the solos and do them well, people still hit 'dislike' anyway just to do it.

  • *clicks add to favorite*

  • Randy Rhoads would be proud.

  • Hey. Nice work! BTWyou kinda look like Gus .G from ozzy's guitarists

  • @SuperJames707 thanks, funny that you mentioned Gus G because I had a 'Musician's Friend' catalog with him on the cover (October 2010) which my dad saw and said "Hey you're on the cover!" lol

  • Awesome dude! I love the song and this cover. I wish I could play it all the way through, I only know up to the bridge.

  • @th3rastapasta thanks a lot, yeah it's kind of tough to even figure out some areas, let alone play them, mainly because there are multiple guitar tracks/over-dubs (sounds like Rhoads layered multiple parts with an acoustic, electric, and 12-string).

  • Fantastic. Its No Easy Feat to Play Diary of a Madman , matter what anyone says.

  • @bathwhoreE thanks very much

  • @ahenn84 You do it well. Can you Post another Randy Rhoads song? You've already covered my Fave.I'd love to hear more.

  • @bathwhoreE whoa?? really?? i can play it

  • @waliuxD Then perhaps you should show him... anyone can say "I can play this" but it means absolutely nothing until they SHOW it. I can say "I can play Bach's Toccata and Fugue without error and blindfolded" but until I prove it, it's merely just all talk and no show.

  • dude u do some sick covers, randy rhoads is my all time fav guitar player, i think hed be proud seein people playin his stuff like this, good job man

  • Great job!

  • @TheSmidgett thanks a lot

  • AGAIN. THIS IS AMAZING

  • @DEATHDEVILGT thanks again

  • Sweeet!! Sounds really good.

  • I love ESP guitars.

What model is this, I like that melody maker headstock.

Awesome playing. Randy was a genius.

    Thanks for posting.

  • @worthound thanks, it's a KH-3 Kirk Hammett signature (and sorry for the delay in my response)

  • This is epic to the next level. Much applause.

  • @mcsammer4 thanks very much

  • Bravo, I stood up and applauded you.

  • damn very nice dude the 15 dislikes on this video are obviously from people that have never played or touched a guitar in there life. best cover ive seen.

  • @qualityskatevids thanks a lot, yeah there will always be people to dislike it just to dislike it, those along with hater comments do indeed come from people who don't have videos themselves and/or don't play guitar...unless it's the plastic one with buttons (i.e. 'guitar hero' and 'rock band')

  • Only legit one i found here. Very Nice!

  • nice.... this song gives me so much crap tryin to do it >:/ well ur a very good guitarist man keep it up ;)

  • @toxicxiz thanks very much

  • insane with goodness!!! ----balls to the wall brother!!!!

  • Yea nice job thats not easy to play.

    Very nice !

  • @mrbrownstone242 thanks a lot

  • Dont listen to people talk shit dude, that is a hard song to play, playing it perfect note for note is nearly impossible, i think you did good, i mean it is Randy Rhoads right?! LOL

  • I thought that was awesome :))

  • A terrible version of a great song.

  • @TheGoodFonz Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but not everyone is entitled to intelligence....as in, if it were truly terrible, it wouldn't have an over 20-to-1 like vs. dislike ratio and it wouldn't have the most views out of any guitar-only cover of this song ;)

  • great work fella! I use line 6 too, I've had a jcm 800 stack in the past but thier unreliable and to much hard work to lug around, with a decent set of boss pedals and powered board the spider will piss on anything around!

  • oh and by the way great cover sounded realy good

  • @afireinsidemysoul thanks a lot

  • Ya my rig is the line 6 spider 3 half stack and to be hinest i think it souds great the price is great and yes its like all these people talking up gibson and fender and so on its just a name brand

  • great playing !!! but buy a new amp , a marshall maybe , because Line 6 suck ..

  • @HaraldBakk thanks...although regarding the amp, I actually had a Marshall as my previous amp and the Line 6 Spider 3 out-performed it in every way...the Marshall was more expensive too. I hear the 'Line 6 sucks' thing occasionally but from personal experience I highly disagree, especially for the price....people say "buy Marshall" just because it's the most famous brand, much in the same way people say Fender Strats and Gibson Les Pauls are the "best" guitars...

  • @dehoyos79 It is indeed unfortunate they never played it live, although from what I read the reason was Ozzy had trouble with the vocal timing.

  • I didn't know jesus played guitar! especially ozzy songs!! :) but seriously though, great job dude.

  • @DrShrinkKane2 thanks a lot

  • I love the sound of this song. I believe Ab Hungarian Minor. Great cover, dude!

  • nice dude. randy is always guna rule

  • Great job! This isn't the easiest song in the world to paly, so I congratulate you for taking on the challenge and nailing the song! Randy would be proud.

  • great cover man!

  • @magicorubik thanks very much!

  • awesome!!!!!!

  • You rock man!!

  • @SVEJENASE13 thanks a lot, I just try to do what I can.

  • Nice job!

  • F@#kin sweet, wish there was a live Randy version on video somewhere, S.A.T.O. also, my two favorite Ozzy songs, I can play the bass to them too, Bob Daisley was an underrated bass player

  • @detroitdemon his basslines are awesome

  • COOL

  • standing ovation

  • u r an awesome guitar player! :)

  • @1k098 thanks a lot

  • I think the most impressive thing about your work is playing it without the song in the back. Great fucking job man. After reading "I AM OZZY", it's hard to believe he managed to write all this great material in so little time. Long live mate.

  • @MontrealQC1970

    EPIC book.

  • Great cover man. I'm sure Randy would be proud.

It looks like the amp you're using is a Line 6 model...

If so, what setting do you have on clean and distortion?

  • @cj544322 thanks a lot, yes it is indeed a line 6, I can't recall the exact settings but the clean I put a little bit of delay and chorus...and the distortion was nothing special, I usually keep the bass and treble high and the middle low, but as the description says I had the treble lower in this one (I should have added a bit of delay and chorus in that too).

  • skillz

  • great cover!

  • dude this is great if randy were here he would be proud :(

  • good job man awesome

  • @jae972 thanks a lot

  • good cover!!!

  • Bro this is one of the best Diary of a Madman's cover I've ever seen!!

    Fucking Awesome !! 10000....../5 stars!! =D

  • thanks very much

  • Fucking awesome man...... Awesome...

  • hey i know you pick the first part but does anyone know if it is supposed to be finger picked? Sweet cover by the way

  • thanks, I'm not sure if it's with a pick or fingers either...I personally used a pick because it had a bit more presence/'ooomph' to it for lack of a better term, it sounded too soft/quiet when I tried it with fingers.

  • @f3l18ipsk8erm Randy pretty much always used a pick from what I know. Besides on Dee obviously. Man, I wish he could have gotten the chance to play this song live, would have been so epic!

  • @f3l18ipsk8erm I never finger pick it when I play it. Sounds like Randy's using a pick in the original recordings too.

  • dude, that was perfect. i'm a huge ozzy fan, and it really sounded just like rhoads himself. very impressive, how long have you been playing?

  • thanks very much, been playing for about 6 1/2 years as of now (about 4 years at the time of recording this video).

  • Nicely done!!

  • Good job man....missing a few notes in the clean parts though.

  • thanks, I'm not going to get all the clean parts though considering there are multiple guitars/over-dubs...there's an acoustic, electric and possibly a 12-string; can't get them all.

  • badass! good job man

  • thanks a lot

  • hi ahenn just want to confirm are u using a clean tone with distortion or overdrive and what are your mids my tone is pertty accurate but am getting confused what effect i should use od. or dist. thanks and nice playing love ure kirk guitarrrrrr

  • thanks for the compliment, I use basic distortion, I keep the mids fairly low mostly, like 25%...I usually keep the bass and treble high but in this particular video I had the treble a bit too low for my liking (video-wise that is, in person it sounded good). You should be good with just distortion, overdrive might be too much...if you have chorus or delay effects a tiny bit of those might help too (which I wish I added to my distortion for this song).

  • Awesome cover dude great playing.

    keep on rockin.

  • Wooooonderful rendition! I love it! Great job!

  • thanks very much :)

  • Great job man!

  • thanks a lot!

  • FINALLY someone who actually play it right!! ha i love it man, i play this tune all the time. thats the perfect effect too for it

  • You have one of the best clean tones I've ever heard.

  • that was perfect *5

  • thanks, well not quite perfect but probably about as close as I'm going to get in an unaccompanied live take.

  • that was awesome!

  • thanks very much

  • good man..i did this song too check it out ;)

  • thanks a lot, and excellent work yourself, your vids are awesome, I'm surprised you don't have more views to them (I especially liked 'Over the Mountain')

  • awesome !!

  • fucking awsome im learning the song too i already got the intro and the verses down im working on the interlude now

  • thanks, yeah the interlude is a bit tricky, it's tough changing into it and getting out of it, and also keeping track of where you're at/how long to play it for (if playing unaccompanied as I am).

  • NICE JOB

  • Awesome fucking cover man. Well done.

  • awsome cover man...nice job 5/5

  • thanks very much

  • Great choice to master. Nice playing. Nice job !!

  • Bro that was amazing, one of the best covers of this song i ever heard. I give u props for that bro.

Also, correct me if im wrong, but is that a Line 6 Spider III amp ur using my friend.

  • Awesome :)

  • @ScarletTears91 thanks a lot :)

  • fucking great! RANDY FOREVER!

  • Great playing..5stars..throw a few random pinch harmonics in there on the heavy parts and that really *would* be sic! \m/

  • im deffinitely jealous of that guitar i have the kh-2 i wished they still made the kh-3. and yea man nice cover!

  • @EKirkland89 yeah that guitar was a lucky find on ebay, I wasn't even looking for it, I stumbled across it by chance but knew it was rare so I went for it and luckily won (according to the certificate of authenticity the one I have was made in '94). And thanks for the compliment btw.

  • Unbelievable song

    Excellent guitar playing man

  • thanks a lot

  • Hard to squeeze in the distortion in with the classical guitar inbetween ain't it :P fun one to play

  • @reaperflynn3 it was indeed difficult in some areas, I had a hard time coordinating it namely going from the distortion to the clean middle at 2:31

  • Killer take. One of my fav, if not the best Oz song ever. Nice interp. If only you could play this in a mental ward! They'd "understand". I do.

  • lol you didn't take your Jackson Randy Rhoads to play his song ^^

  • I use my guitars based on the tuning, I keep the Jackson as my standard tuned one and I keep the ESP at a half step down (which is what this song is in).

  • It isn't like you say, the original isn't half step down. It is like 3/4 step down XD

  • @David1456 the only reason it sounds 3/4 down is due to the engineering/mixing process...the actual tuning itself IS a half step down, Rhoads himself states it in a tape (from Feb. 2nd, 1982) transcribed in an issue of 'Guitar World' magazine...question: "Did you tune differently on Diary of a Madman, as compared to Blizzard of Ozz?" Rhoads: "Yes, we tuned down one half step when we recorded 'Diary' "

  • Ahhh cool man! Thanks for the explanation!!

By the way, you ROCK! /m/

  • no problem, and thanks a lot

  • one of the best covers of this song on youtube

  • Good going, man. Much Kudos.

  • thanks very much

  • mmm, Nice guitars you have there.

  • Awesome bro. Good sound too! Randy had a very hard sound to capture.

  • its really a great cover man, that's my favorite ozzy's song..what amp are you using and effects as well?keep it up!

  • thanks a lot, I use a line 6 spider 3 amp, I don't use a whole lot for effects, just a little delay and chorus in the clean tone (which comes with the amp)

  • This came out of a tab book first published in 1985. This is note for note out of the book. You must realize all of the intricate pieces not in the book.

It took me 10 years to hear this correctly.

    Good job though

  • thanks, and yes I am aware of all the missing intricate stuff, even if it was listed/tabbed I wouldn't have got it anyway since there are like 3 guitars over-dubbed (maybe even more), I liked that tab though since I thought it was better than most online ones (at that time of '07 anyway, there are probably better online ones as of now).

  • The reason I wrote about tab book is because I have it from 1985 and watched you play it right out of the book.

    Thought that was cool

That's how I learned it back then and have just improved on it everysince

  • wow, amazing. I bet you could really impress all of your friends! Great Job!

  • thanks a lot, although not a whole lot of my friends are impressed since they don't have the same appreciation/regard for music...they're more impressed with 'guitar hero' games actually lol.

  • Probably the best cover I have seen so far. The guitar sounded great. 5 stars.

    Keep rocking bro.

  • thanks a lot

  • ive trawled through them all and this is the best...nice 1

  • What kind of pickups are you using?

  • EMG 85 in the neck, EMG 81 in the bridge.
