in the intro to the start of nalepa 4th july slidecamp remix, how do you make those chord/pads im not sure what they are but there very relaxing. does anybody know how to create a simular sort of sound to them at all? thanks
@Mattamafias Reverb and delays and filters. Basically you have a pad that modulates slightly over time. It is not going completely out of tune or anything but it is definitely varying up a bit. They definitely have it routed out through some big reverb to give it that lush quality. It has a little of the high end rolled off too, dulling out a synth sound is a nice way to get that sound. Synth->Reverb-> Auto Filter, set the filter as Low Pass and roll of the frequency a bit
You can actually just assign the same knob as frequency to the on off button on the filter, and just set it to only turn on off in the bottom region of the midi cc. Same result,

@DrRegoras Good point. Smart move to take those steps, it indeed sucks out loud when your gear goes out on you and you have to work around, so being prepared is the move. Cheers
@BuglerMusic You can indeed do that. There are multiple ways of doing things in Live. I showed this technique to also introduce people to the Chain Select Ruler.
@snalepa Alright. didn't mean to seem like I was being an ass. I have watched all your videos and I am hoping to attend dubspot soon man. Your videos are such a big help.
@Daluxer Word. When Boreta was a guest in my class he talked about layering synths to get the full sound of his synths. Take the same melody and have it play on a few different instruments at once to get that big fat sound. I don't have the exact recipe necessarily, but it doesn't really matter, the key is to experiment and find your own typical synth sound.
@snalepa Thanks for the reply! Ah yeah i get it - in one of the Dubspot tutorials on dubstep they put a few operators into a instrument rack. Gotta try that..big ups for the answer!
I do this by also mapping the on/off switch to the macro, and having the filter engaged from 1-127. I don't use an extra chain at all. Are there any CPU advantages to either way or is it basically personal preference?
@AfroDjMac Good point. It is a personal preference, does exactly the same thing. Not sure about CPU, but I wanted to show it this way to explain the way that the Chain Select Ruler works. Because of time constraints I didn't dive super deep into how you can add a number of different chains of effects, set a Zone range, and then adjust the Fade range for those Zones. I laid the groundwork for this but didn't show it yet, but I will in a future video. Thanks for the feedback. Cheers!
@AfroDjMac From my experience there is a small risk of a click sound when you turn devices on and off so I personally avoid that method. However, your way is more compact and frees up the chain selector in case you want to stack other effects chains in the same rack and switch between them during a performance.

You don't need two chains you can also (midi/macro) map the filters on/off button, value 1/127. It's a little bit easier especially when you're working with multiple effect on multiple macro's.
@MubangaDNB Great point. The beauty of Ableton is that there are generally more than one way to accomplish the task at hand. Find the way that works best for you. Thanks

awesome stuff thank you so much dude!

there's certainly a cpu advantage to doing it the on/off to the same macro knob method..
..might make little difference when using the built in live devices as they are quite efficient
but throw on some big VSTs in your effects rack and whoa.. you're gonna want to turn them off when you're not using them :P

Hey there boss, what are you using for your video recording? Camtasia? I really like the way your videos zoom in and out. Very quality.

@davepermen at the same time, you could run into problems with having a bunch of idle effects turned on when you're not using them

@Toneklang Right have the group and active range be like 2-127 or what ever

Why not just map the on/off of the autofilter to the macro too? seems way easier.
