This is somewhat off topic, but anyone who remembers this, terrific, mini - series might be able to help me. I am desperately trying to find another gem of a mini-series from about the same era. All I remember is that it was centered around finding a treasure and one of the clues was a tattoo of a crown with an inscription in Latin tattooed underneath, all on the fore arm of one of the characters... Any information would be, greatly, appreciated.
Very frustrated-I've got no sound!!!! Seem to be getting sound on any other you tube videos but not any of your Barriers episodes. I NEED to watch them after so many years!! Loved it at the time.Any advice? from a frustrated technophobe!
Thankyou so much for this!!!!I was addicted to this series, and I fancied Bernedict Taylor like mad, for which I got teased rotten about by my sister. Cant remember much about it now, but I look forward to watching it again! And the music was really haunting...
I don't know what it was about this series, intelligent scripts, that haunting theme music, the barriers between youth & age, but it really got you in all the right emotional places,.
Well acted too unlike so much drama targeted at kids today, or have I just got old myself?
If it was put on dvd it would sell for sure. We should petition 'network video' here in UK to release it, they put out many forgotten 70's/80's tv series, or maybe releaseit yourself. I'd buy it. Thanks for the memories.
Unfortunately, we have grown old. I quite agree with you on the difference about drama written for kids nowadays. The level is dismal!!! I remember this series was one of my favourites in the 80s. I think I missed some episodes, though. Is the ending terribly dramatic and quite unexpected? Oh, I think I should see the series again.
I love the meaningful silences. Not used anymore in drama, I think.
Thankyouthankyouthankyou for this! Been looking for it for ages and never thought that someone would have been committed enough to put up all the episodes. It was on Anglia TV on Sunday afternoons and my whole family watched it. It must have left an impression as I married a German girl from southern Bavaria!
I take that back, I just watched the whole 10 hours, good series, some weak points in the story but those are not too many, couple of times Taylor overacts, such as when he's admonishing Pricey for not being emotional enough after Whitaker's stroke, he only seems to overact when the character has to get especially emotional. Otherwise a fine performance, wouldn't be as good with another actor. Some of the series screams 1980's but most is timeless.
Would anyone who knows mind spilling the beans on the secret of the series? What was Billy's background, what did the opening montague reveal? I used to watch the series whenever I could on TVO in Hamilton, Canada about 20 years ago but I don't think I'll ever get to see all the episodes in the future, so I'm wondering what it was all about.
Amazing! This feels really strange. I had a memory of the titles but their totally different, or do they change at some point? I have the story coming back to me now from some utterly remote part of my brain. Must have been 7 or 8 when I watched this. God that's mad I'd even watch something like this at that age?
I can't remember what year this was shown in New Zealand - it must have been 1981 or 82. But it was one of those shows that has always stuck in my mind and I've looked for on DVD. Thank you so much for posting it.
I was a flautist at the time and remember trying to work out how to play the theme tune.
Thank you so much for taking the time to upload this beautifully made series. I watched it in 1980 and was completely fascinated. I was in my 30's and thought it far to good for kids tv.
i have been looking for this music forever, could never rememebr the name of the drama series it came from!! Anyone know the name of the music or is it made up for Barriers??x
I've been sent a lot of messages asking me about the music. As far as I know, it was omcposed especially for Barriers. A few people have told me they're now trying to get hold of it somehow. If I get any more information about it, I'll post a comment here with details.
One of the other cast members just told me that someone was bothering to upload episodes of our old series. Just wanted to say thanks - what a lovely show that was and how nice that a few people still remember it.
I clearly remember seeing this when it was first on TV. I agree with you the two leads are outstanding and Benedict Taylor looks wonderful. One would hardly recognise him now - age! They don't make serials as good as this these days.
I am so pleased to have found this upload. I watched this serial with my children, now all grown up and never forgot it. Thank you.

Good grief! Chaps in the shower-room, bit naughty for a tea-time show, eh, what?

Never could get to grips with with this, are we to assume the guy who leaps out of the burning car in the opening sequence is Billy's real father?

I used to fancy Ben Taylor something rotten!

Imagine a show coming out today with music as understated and reflective as this. They'd put techno drums and synthesisers all over it.

Whoa!! memories of 1980-81. UK Brit-funk like Freeez. Synth pop like The Human League. And shitty pop like Joe Dolci 'Shadupp yer face'
Thanx.
