  • What idiot strung those power lines just outside a landing strip perimeter fence near the runway threshold?

  • @JBofBrisbane The pwoer lines were already there. Who built that airport near the power lines?

  • The markings such as the red and white lightning bolt at the front, and the white upper and grey/silver lower body, makes me think this was a former RCAF aircraft.

  • TWO TURN'N TWO BURN'N

  • Thats a Neptune Aviation plane based out of Missoula Montana.

  • @skippy10776

    LOL

  • most landings tend to be of the LOW variety.

  • @skippy10776 Sure,,, but this one was so low it actually hit the ground. ;-)

  • Did they hunt UBoats in World War II

  • @doughauf no, its design began during WWII, but it wasn't produced and operated until after. It's an early Cold War plane.

  • Um, this isnt a water bomber, it is an air tanker tho, which is different in the fact that it drops retardant, not water.

  • OHH! It's a

    p-2 Neptune!

  • Looks like a B-26. Probably not, tho.

  • thats what i thought

  • Its a P2 Neptune

  • They never took off out of Hemet-Ryan with the jet assist. Well, I should say almost never, I did see it once or twice out of thousands of departures. I wonder if the altitude of Fox field has anything to do with it.

  • You lucky shit!

I wish I lived near this place and I could watch this Sub Hunters come flying in!

  • Two used Q400s, acquired from Scandinavian Airlines System, were modified by Cascade Aerospace of Abbotsford, British Columbia for France's Sécurité Civile as fire-fighting water bombers in the fire season and as transport aircraft off season. The Q400 Airtanker can drop 10,000 L (22,000 lb)[26] of water in this role compared to Bombardier's CL-415 dedicated water bomber which can drop 6,140 L. The latter, however, is amphibious and requires less infrastructure.

  • Neptune Aviation of Missoula, Montana have acquired a Q300 as a prototype for future Q200/Q300 water bombers to replace current P2V aircraft.[27]

  • Word is that they want to replace THESE with a version of the Bombardier Dash 8 that will fight fires.

  • From U-boat hunter to fire fighter! Impressive!

  • the sound of 3350's making 3500 horsepower each!!!! more than the 28 cyl. 4360 ever made!!!

  • Aaaah this is nice! Thank you for posting!

  • He had to of been showing off for you. Great capture. Saw these flying the Zaca Fire. Thanks for sharing.
