Found this LP in a cut-out bin 20+ years ago, and bought it because it looked cool...a method that has served me well, leading me to Leo Kottke and Show Business Giants, as well as to this great album. Thanks for putting this up so I can share it with others.
THANK you sooo much uploader... EagerBoy59 i've been looking for this for Years!! with only half of the track cut off on a random cassette tape to listen to for joy in the down times.. what an amazing toon!!
Late 60s I think, though he'd been doing his thing in front of the Alamo since the late 40s. Check out 'Transisitor Radio' by him which I've also put up. The LP has seven tracks, all killers.
An interesting idea. I know what you mean though I think more of things like the 'Gangland Rhythms' LP by 'Five Boys In Trouble' from the late 50s as representing proto-rap. I tend to see Bongo Joe as being the inventor of a completely new genre and the master of it to boot. Sign of a genius, though I know that word is overused. If you liked this one, give 'Transistor Radio' by him a listen. I put that one up too, or better still see if you can find the LP which has seven of his songs in all.
I remember the cover of this LP as it was part of my vinyl-collection. I've got it now on CD but with a different picture on the cover. Are the "Five Boys In Trouble" on CD too?
Just thinking about your comment again. Bongo Joe has been doing his thing since the late 40s, though it is true that this song was recorded in the late 60s.

Quite possibly.

I have checked out Amazon about Five Boys on CD. Seems now they've expanded to Six Boys as it was still called Gangland Rhythms.
Just thought you might like to know...

Thanks! It probably was six all the time. I didn't check before replying to you earlier.

A lot of his drummer style seems like he's listened to Cozy Cole. See YouTube Topsy Part II.
