Honestly , i would not have my Som Tum with the pickled crab as it makes it too salty for my taste.
Usually i prefer Thai Lime Juice , Fish Sauce , Sugar , Crushed Peanuts , Shallots ( optional ) , tomatoes ( optional ) and the Chillies.
We call them Prik Kee Noo which is known as Bird's Eye Chillies or in Malay Chili Padi.
Chili Padi is popular in Malay Cooking As well . . give them a try too .
