well, Melchiah was a sort of vampire that "evolved" to that state where he was building his own body with.. u saw what.. other dudes bodies..

if interested or if u ever have the time to play the game, u can play only Soul Reaver episodes from the legacy of kain series.. (SR1, SR2 and Defiance) and that would be enough.
