Please people don't be fooled, listen to content of conversation. McCain was not talking about Islam or Muslims. He was talking about U.S oil dependency thus Hugo Chavez being mention in the same sentence as the middle east. The middle east = the number 1 producer Venezuela = the number 4 and I'm sure that 2 and 3 are also in the middle east so his comment makes a lot of sense to me.
