  • How can the font size be changed?

  • @ecapco beyond the menu commands how can the font size be changed? my screen is blank on one unit and on another unit the menu font is too large so i can't see the options. help.

  • [iminent wave]hello friends[/wave]

  • [iminent led]LED DISPLAY HERE!!![/led]

  • looks like my Led-Matrix

Youtube -> New Control Software for - LED-MATRIX DIY 16x16x4, RGB LED Screen

    nice Work

  • This and "obsolete" do not belong on the same webpage!

  • Tis looks pretty neat. Did you use all home brew PIC programming, or did you get someone's source code?

  • You can do that with 2- times less electronic parts by using LED drivers from "mbi" family (i.e. mbi5168) - they're cheap and work very well.

  • what the fuck thats awesome!!!!

  • piece of cat shit

  • New led lcd tv use an array like that.

  • do u have a schematics for this led plz

  • Awesome job! Your soldering hand must be killing you...

  • the reason red is not working well is because it is not as power full, most of the time with RGB LED stuff, you get 2 red, 1 green and 1 blue, guess that will solve it

  • The amount of electronics there makes me realise why people use spinning POV systems, they are so much more compact. This is a great proof of concept though!

  • Nerd pr0n

  • dont stare into the light!

  • the led matrix did u that in japan they have led screen hd the biggest in the world

  • I think it was made with the NES system on the bottom

  • Nice work! Reminds me of a Daft Punk concert.

  • HOW DID YOU MAKE THAT/??

  • you have the design of this project. is for my university. thansk christian.

  • amazing work

  • must be a messy project.. hahah

  • pfr tv

  • mine too!

  • use 3 color led to save some space

  • they're way more expensive, and you've got to drive each one.

turns out this option is way better.

  • Cool

  • O HAI! i think your cool!

  • after you mooved from the 360 2 the wires i was like WHAT THE FUC*.... there is NO way i can do that..

  • if you dont mind me asking what are you using to drive this thing and what computer program are you using

  • C32 compiler for PIC32 microcontrollers

    Regards

  • is it the free download version or the licensed compiler? can I ask what's the difference?

  • im not critisizing im just commenting on how to improve and get better fullfilment

  • Thanks for your suggestions, next week I will release the fists video of my led rim version.

    Characteristics

2 columns of 36 smd RGB leds,

    wireless connection to PC

EEPROM memory integrated to store images in PNG, JPG and GIF format :)

  • Well 140kg is what 280 pounds and i bet i could make that same thing in probaly less than 50 pounds or 22.5kg

  • Go on then, arsehole.

I hate shits like yuo who trample over everyone else's efforts, yuo think you're so much better than everybody, don't you?!

    Arrogant git.

  • using T.I's TLC5940 chip would vastly improve this design and with the addition to mosfets you could drive a sign 20 times the size of this one and still be good man you have to think of size of things these days people dont buy or sponsor a 10 ton 360 led display that works. people are looking for compact surface mount boards that are less than a pound or two but good thinking and check out ideas at brilldea's website

  • Thanks for your comments, but this is not a 10 ton 360 screen. it weights no more than 140 kg actually. it is already using SM and it is intended to display speudo-holographic images.

  • why dude?

  • What are you referring to? :)

  • Hey c'mon, so much of wiring, different boards, computers, etc. BLAH!, instead of all that , few FPGA-chips and it would be compact, small, cheap and less power consuming. Hopefully, next time we see a bit more advanced display than this..

  • This was just a prototype from 1 year ago. 360 LED screen is using 2 SPARTAN 3AN and 3 SPARTAN DSP boards from xilinx. The video will be released in 2 month more or less.

  • holy breadboard wiring O.O

how much did this cost you??

  • This prototype costed me about 400 USD.

  • very nice work excellent keep up the good job my friend

  • LED DISPLAYS

  • dude you know they have these. They use them all the time. Sports arenas sonic signs

  • Probably because it's not very big, but that costs a lot more money, and time to program i guess. And if there was music in the vid it also would've been móre awesome.

  • this is quite cool, how much did it cost you to build?

  • hi id like to make also a rgb display but i dont know how to start could you help me with the circuits you used

  • Couldn't it be done with less wires? I want to know the CPU/MPU used here, and how much memory (ROM and RAM)?

  • Fewer wires? Not really, as there are nearly a thousand LEDs there and each has to be connected to something (it helps that they are in an array though.) I don't know the board but it is probably an FPGA design kit (and not a cheap one from the looks of it). It doesn't really qualify as a CPU until it gets some logic programmed into it. I imagine the details of that logic are the special part that he wants to get paid for.

  • Dang! That is amazingly cool!

  • why cant you go to some electronics shop and buy yourself a nice grid of LED....to plug into a USB...WHY?

Does everyone have to build this stuff from scratch everytime???

  • Because it's a lot of fun to build and it's much cheaper.

  • cheaper?NO

    Alot of Fun? HELL YA!

  • I agree with Mieggiel2.. it is MUCH cheaper. And making it use USB as the main format is bloody stupid.. you can easily do it if you want to, but it is pointless.

  • well..I was just thinking of a simple interface so you can just play a QT and set the output via USB and get your LEDs to respond accordingly.

Without the necessity of soldering and all of that stuff.

It seems like there is a market for high performance modular LED panels and some kind of software driver kit that would suite audio visual performers etc....beyond all of the DIY stuff...that already exists.

  • Well i have already seen thousends of those screens. Particularry in the showbusiness.

There are already alot company's offering them. But they aren't quite cheap hehe.. Cost thousands of dollars. But when you finnished it, it looks better then LCD, plasma or beamer on a distance.

  • look at all that crazy electronic gear

  • u must lost lots of time to make this... nice job congratulations really nice

  • What about EMI with all this wires around? :-)

Maybe u could use shift registers filled from FPGA...

  • thanks for your comments, my new 360 screen uses 2 FPGAs actually ;)

I will post it very soon

  • If i`d only had the money and wisdom to make this... i can make a led blink tho !

  • Nice job! Have you got it in kits form or DIY plans? I would love to build a TV screen out of RGB LEDs and I'd have a 20 foot TV or monitor screen. I have seen a few at stadiums and at a hotel in Las Vegas, but no kits yet. I'm not good enough in C to do it in my lifetime. Again, very nice!

  • Thanks

  • Cool.

  • interesting

  • Hola Fernando,

    excelente projecto...me gustaria construirlo.

Puedo proveerte cualquier parte(s) que necesites

    a cambio de un prototipo.

    Gracias,

    Jose D. Hernandez

    NH, USA

  • can you cange the bulbs

  • you could, but It would not be easy

  • Wow, that is really, really cool! Well done!!!

  • What micro processor is this?

  • DSPIC30F6014A. It was programmed in C (C30 compiler)

    Regards

    Fernando Cárdenas

  • Awesome. I can layout a pcb for it

  • That MUST have cost you!

Even my small 8x8 setup will be expensive.

One tip: Try using overdrive and pulse the LED's only once pr refresh instead of full pwm. Due to POV (Persistance of Vision) you only need 10+ refreshes pr second for it to look quite good. At 16x16 you'd have 390µs pr led for 10 cycles/sec. (A bit less.) Many LED's have a rated burst or pulse that they can operate on for up to 10µs and that is usually a magnitude higher than normal current levels. Just an idea...

  • Sounds good! thanks for the tip :)

  • ok i understand most of this but some i dont get lol

where could a person learn this kind of stuff?

  • Que buen trabajo.

Con solo ver los cables se nota lo tedioso que es.

  • OMG!! AWSOME!!!

  • Congratulation! That looks amazing. Is it 16x16 full colour LED matrix? And how did u do it? did u use shift registers/latches? any transisters?? is it possible to get a diagramme??

  • I did not use shift register/latches but the newest version does.

15x16 full color led matrix. Red channel is not connected because the board does not have enough GPIOs however using latches bring better performance. Color depth 5-bits because the pwm method takes long time from the MCU. I was trying to get a sponsor for this project in mexico, however no one is interested in it :(

  • keep trying maybe even try in other countries. like the us/canada?

  • Take a look at Torre Agbar in Barcelona, Spain. Is a huge building (similar to a penis :-P) iluminated with leds. Maybe you should try to focus the stuff in that way.

  • We are always looking for new talented designers. Contact us to discuss how we can help you.

  • now that's a product for spencers and when it's made i want the first one made

  • felicidades por el proyecto, de donde puedo conseguir informacion para hacer una panatalla de leds para reproducir videos.

    Exitos

  • What LEDs did you use? 5mm LEDs? 3 per pixel? Thanks in advance for your answear.

  • 5 mm per pixel. There are 3 leds per pixel and I use a DSPIC microcontroller however I am migrating it to ARM7TDMI and FPGA.

    Regards

    Fernando Cárdenas
