See, everyone wants to compete with the iPad. But Microsoft had the right idea here; instead of competing with Apple, it had a different vision. The iPad is about consuming media; the Courier is about creating things. Apple want us to be sheeple who just passively take in; Microsoft could've been the ones saying "hey the device is yours - go forth and make things and share ideas."

Imagine a "Booklet" with a virtual OSK sitting in the usual notebook position. Why would we continue buying "hard-tops" when we could have convertibles... Simply put this will make the average notebook obsolete and they still have stock to move.

I'm an iPad user, and the iPad really sucks. I'm not someone that "believes" in Apple, for me it's just a company. The outside looks great, but innerside... 800 euro's for a 1 Ghz processor and 512 MB RAM?! That's what they put in Windows 95 PC's! My iTunes crashes my PC, the magnets in my iPad are very dangerous... Synchronizing doesn't work anymore, Some apps keep crashing, ... Thank you a lot Apple! When there's a Windows 8 tablet out, i bring the iPad back to the store!

Now Toshiba is offering something similar (the TOSHIBA LIBRETO W100), but the user interface is far from being as cool (not too mention the hardware part, as it doesn't work with a pen and the center fold doesn't feature your copy/paste function and looks ugly.

This would have been great for both business and education. The technology is here, just a matter of someone creating it. If I ever get a tablet, this would be it. Microsoft can definitely make some decent hardware as evidence by the Zune HD and the Kinect. They need to get back on this.

According to information that I have, the tablet will be released in march of 2011, but you know the dates change, this tablet we're watching, is only a prototype, Microsoft just showed that is entering the computer market touch, We hopefully for the next year it is for sale, I WANT IT ALREADY =).

Hi everyone. I'm sorry to say that Microsoft has announced that they are no longer making / designing this product. I really couldn't see why. I think that just about everyone in thier right mind would prefer this to windows mobile seven series.
I wonder if I can take notes on it. Kinda like a notebook and agenda replacement also to do essays and other school/work related stuff... not just sneakers and fashion things like all the Courier vids show.

The main problem is I can't see many parents wanting their children to be left alone in the back seat of the car with an iPad! Like the iTouch I think the fact it is not free standing is particularly annoying - people simply will not want to hold a device for 2 hours whilst they watch a film.

Well, the cheap price of the iPad was a surprise, so maybe that's a reason for the canceling. But anyways, this thing is amazing and I would buy one if it's not too expensive. But I wounder what touchscreen they actually use, it can't be capacitive one, because you can write on it with a stylus.

Hi I am a PC, Microsoft just announced that the Courier won't ever be released today. That is, its dead even before its born. We realized how good the iPad is and won't ever be able to compete. This video is just showing off what a developer can create in terms of UI and design of a software. And we forgot all these things can be done on an iPad anyway... oh well. Poop.
@ndbrandt I use a real sketchbook for that. Nothing beats good old fashioned pencils, sticky tape and no format. I don't want to be limited to a software for idea making. For vector and imaging software, I will go back to my laptop which is where the real designing should be.
i always had a feeling that this tablet was too good to be true or to happen.
I bet they went into tons of technical limitations to implement all of that goodness. Anyway, let's just hope that someone else in the future would adopt the same approach.
to all those anticipating this product - move right along. It is not coming. Today MS officially said that this product will not be released. And I see why - they simply don't have the capability to write software like this, which will work fast and will not drain the power like crazy.

Well You can get an Entourage edge, if you want an dual screen E Reader, personally I think it is actually better as it has an E Ink screen, and appears to have similar functions, but it is hard to find places that sell them, and it doesn't use windows!!!!

According to information that I have, the tablet will be released in march of 2011, but you know the dates change, this tablet we're watching, is only a prototype, Microsoft just showed that is entering the computer market touch, We hopefully for the next year it is for sale, I WANT IT ALREADY =).

@h4x0y I agree, but I think it would need a professional use if it is to have any longevity in this current format (as Microsoft are trying to drive towards in this video). The main problem is I can't see many parents wanting their children to be left alone in the back seat of the car with an iPad! Like the iTouch I think the fact it is not free standing is particularly annoying - people simply will not want to hold a device for 2 hours whilst they watch a film.

Well, the cheap price of the iPad was a surprise, so maybe that's a reason for the canceling. But anyways, this thing is amazing and I would buy one if it's not too expensive. But I wounder what touchscreen they actually use, it can't be capacitive one, because you can write on it with a stylus.

Sad that it's cancelled. There's almost nothing I dislike about this concept, which surprised me considering MS created it (they lost me around 2004). I'm anxious to see what they eventually make of it.

Hi I am a PC, Microsoft just announced that the Courier won't ever be released today. That is, its dead even before its born. We realized how good the iPad is and won't ever be able to compete. This video is just showing off what a developer can create in terms of UI and design of a software. And we forgot all these things can be done on an iPad anyway... oh well. Poop.

@ndbrandt I use a real sketchbook for that. Nothing beats good old fashioned pencils, sticky tape and no format. I don't want to be limited to a software for idea making. For vector and imaging software, I will go back to my laptop which is where the real designing should be.
