Any kind of forced medical treatment is wrong. Before a court takes such drastic action, I would think that the doctors would have to at least prove that the treatment improves outcomes for patients, which I think would be difficult to do.

Go Google it. In a generation, Hodgkins went from a death sentence to a cancer with a cure rate in the high 90's in the early stages. It is a cancer that is extremely responsive to treatment. Stage IV cancer is terminal for most cancers. With Hodgkins, even stage IV can be cured.

wellll I don't know where you all are from but I'm from around the area that Daniel is from and just to inform you, the family has decided to have the chemotherapy willingly because they have realized that it will help to save Daniel's life (they are also using alternative methods during the chemotherapy). And from what I understand the court is not pressing charges against the mother for running with him.

Freedom of religion must step aside when it comes to life-or-death situations. Prayer, ionized water and "whole grains", the parent's "natural cure" for their child, it more of a choice of breakfast rather than a cure for cancer. Cancer was a death sentence back in the middle ages, where these kind of religious cures were used numerous times, and none of them worked. Modern day cures DO work and with great success. It's only common sense to use the cure that works.

My Dad had chemo for his cancer and it was very clear that the chemo took 20 years from him. He was NEVER the same after getting chemo. He lost most of his teeth, he was always sick, his color was gone, his life energy was greatly decreased by the chemo.

I had Hodgkins, just like Daniel Hauser. It was widespread. The tumor in my neck was so large I couldn't button up a shirt. They told me 85% chance of cure with chemo, no chance without. The stuff is indeed toxic. Puked my guts out constantly, my veins turned blue, was soooo sick. Went through it for 8 months. But guess what? It worked. The cancer disappeared. From what I heard the family is Roman Catholic. I am Roman Catholic myself and the Catholic doesn't really take any stance against medicine, provided it's necessary and not abused. If they are Catholic they should really talk to a priest if they are concerned about religious views. But from my understanding the should be no moral issue of recieving chemotherapy.

I noticed something about everyone who is against the court's decision: not a single one of them is a doctor. After speaking with many retired and current practitioners,the answer is simple -CHEMO WORKS! Any kind of forced medical treatment is wrong. Before a court takes such drastic action, I would think that the doctors would have to at least prove that the treatment improves outcomes for patients, which I think would be difficult to do.
I hope for a positive outcome for this boy, either through traditional treatment or other means. However, America needs to learn a great deal about what "freedom" really means before singing about it and shouting patriotic slogans. This surely isn't freedom.

Go Google it. In a generation, Hodgkins went from a death sentence to a cancer with a cure rate in the high 90's in the early stages. It is a cancer that is extremely responsive to treatment. Stage IV cancer is terminal for most cancers. With Hodgkins, even stage IV can be cured.
Daniel is a child and the judge did the right thing to protect him.

My father died from his first injection of chemo, not his cancer....He had so much cancer, I don't even understand why they talked him into it. His body was too weak for that aggressive treatment. In a country where we are pro choice about our bodies if we are pregnant, why not free choice about our own bodies. I've seen some cancer patients life prolonged, but not cured.

I was diagnosed with stage 4 Ovarian Cancer and was told I had 6 months to live...that was 3 years ago and I never had ANY chemo therapy, radiation or anything else the doctors told me I had to do or I would die. Daniel Hauser is 13 and without chemo he will die at the age of 14. You don´t cure hodgins lymphoma with herbs and prayer. It´s treated with vincristin, procarbazin. It kills the fasted growing cells in the human body, cancer.

Without treatment: 5% chance of survival.
This kid will die without real treatment. He has a very good chance with medicine.
Adults can make their own decisions about their medical treatment. This poor kid has no chance with his parents. They "homeschooled" him his whole life. He can't even read. How could he possibly make an informed decision when raised by idiotic parents?

those stats are fundamentally flawed- they do not take into account one's actual health only an immediate 'minimal survival rate'. health is not to be defined by disease but by ones health. even if one survives such brutal treatment, there will be inevitable harm to the organs & body. see above posts

In the news today, the mother fled the state of MN with her child, there is an all out search for them, she would be arrested at gunpoint if they find them and he will be forced to take this expensive corporate chemotherapy and they will not be free to pursue the medicine they believe in. Freedom of religion must step aside when it comes to life-or-death situations. Prayer, ionized water and "whole grains", the parent's "natural cure" for their child, it more of a choice of breakfast rather than a cure for cancer. Cancer was a death sentence back in the middle ages, where these kind of religious cures were used numerous times, and none of them worked. Modern day cures DO work and with great success. It's only common sense to use the cure that works.

In the middle ages, a deep cut was deadly. Now, with proper cleanliness dying from a cut is unheard of. The modern medical world refuses to do true studies on natural remedies, so of course they can say it's "unproven". Also, modern medicine does NOT claim their therapy for cancer to be a "cure" as you imply. It is very dangerous to allow any government to have this much power. When the modern medicine no longer works for profit, but to truly offer wellness, then they will have some credibility.

I request that Healing Practitioners of all types come forward and post videos about methods that will help Daniel Hauser overcome his condition. Oxygen therapies, urine therapy, detoxification, parasite purging...whatever you advocate...post! Help the Hauser's choose, administer, monitor and PROVE another method. In the meantime, can the Hauser's seek asylum in a country that advocates parents' rights and is able to treat Daniel without Chemo?

My Dad had chemo for his cancer and it was very clear that the chemo took 20 years from him. He was NEVER the same after getting chemo. He lost most of his teeth, he was always sick, his color was gone, his life energy was greatly decreased by the chemo.
He died of cancer even after having many chemo treatments.

I had Hodgkins, just like Daniel Hauser. It was widespread. The tumor in my neck was so large I couldn't button up a shirt. They told me 85% chance of cure with chemo, no chance without. The stuff is indeed toxic. Puked my guts out constantly, my veins turned blue, was soooo sick. Went through it for 8 months. But guess what? It worked. The cancer disappeared. That was 22 years ago, I've been fine ever since. Daniel' s mother is a dumb ass who will have him dead. She is unfit to have a child.

My Grandmother had a stroke and heart attack right after starting chemotherapy. She was gone within a few weeks. I wish that I had talked her out of the chemo, I'd have had her longer.

The real question here is what the state is REALLY interested in here. Its not the childs life, or a childs "right" to have it. If you think about it, why should the state care? Thousands of children die every year because of the parents inability to pay for treatment. This kids special, because the parents refuse it? i do not know anyone who susrvived cancer from nature treatment. i do know several who have ied shortly after being diagnosed and refused treatment and chemo. true some people are pron to cancer and will get it again and again after treatment but at least they fought to have full lives. i have lost 15 friends and family to cancer. the ones who died even with treatment were older than 60 with underlieing health issues and have had cancer serval times in thier lives. ive seen the effects of chemo

From what I heard the family is Roman Catholic. I am Roman Catholic myself and the Catholic doesn't really take any stance against medicine, provided it's necessary and not abused. If they are Catholic they should really talk to a priest if they are concerned about religious views. But from my understanding the should be no moral issue of recieving chemotherapy.

There was something important omitted here. The cancer shrunk after the first (and only) chemo treatment.

I watched my uncle, both grandparents and my father die long, horrible deaths from the effects of cancer and more so, from the destruction of their immune systems by the chemotherapy and radiation. When diagnosed with cancer myself, I refused radiation and chemo and was called a "stupid bitch" by one of my doctors. Another became angry. I went with a physician from China, herbs, IVC and hyperbaric oxygen and removal of mercury fillings. I am still here and great 6 years later! This is communism

I noticed something about everyone who is against the court's decision: not a single one of them is a doctor. After speaking with many retired and current practitioners,the answer is simple -CHEMO WORKS! Also, one must question the parental decisions of a couple who have an illiterate 13-yr old(look this up on Lexus Nexus for citation).The way I see it, the state has just saved a boys life. Maybe while he is in the hospital a tutor can come in and teach him what his parents denied him.

I see this from both sides. While I see why the parents don't want the chemo forced I also see the judge's view. If it is 90% curable with chemo (with a few months of sickness from it) why would you put your child at a greater risk of death. Why wouldn't you attempt to convince him it is the right thing to do. My grandpa had this and waited to long. Now he's dead. I say give the chemo so he has a greater chance to live. Chemo CAN save lives, not just harm them.

If chemotherapy restores a body to optimal health, the judge and doctors that promote the chemotherapy should be forced to go through the same regimen.
The majority of doctors that promote chemotherapy would refuse any chemotherapy because of its ineffectiveness against the disease, and its devastating effects!
