Late 1942 Remington dropped the M1903, and started making the M1903A3. I hope you didn't have an M1903 (rear sight on barrel) and change it to an 'A3, as you've lost about all its collector value. Actually, I think you have had an M1903A3 all along, and mis-typed when you called it an M1903. And I sincerely hope you didn't have to drill the receiver bridge to install that civillian rear sight! Best, Joe
How many of these babys were made, been trying to get hold of one for 2 years now with no joy.Seen a Gibbs Springfield with a scope on,nice but its just not the same.
Can anyone tell me what the going rate for a nice Springfield is in the US,over here in the UK I have been told that they are fetching £1500-£2000 for a clean one?
I know that they are good rifles with a lot of history behind them but surely £2K is a bit much.
@Marlever357 Well, Gibbs I would stay away from since they are usually rewelds. But check out CMP if you are in the US. You can get a nice service grade for around $700 or so. Otherwise try Gunbroker/AA but the prices in UK do sound high to me.
i need some help. i recently bought a smith corona 03a3. it looks like someone put a sporter stock on it. i recently bought a stock to make it look orginal. i havent put it on yet. the hand guard came with the clips and it also came with a lower band spring. i do not know if it needs anything else. please email me i can send photos of my rifle and my stock i purchased. i wanna know if its ready to instal or am i missing parts. please help
@kp7100 Sent email. But to answer for others that might be interested, check to make sure your stock has the rest of the hardware, especially the cross bolts and nuts - there will be two of them, the small holes in the stock below the receiver. There are two good sources for M1903 info, one is surplusrifle forums and the other is the CMP forums. Rick the Librarian on the CMP forums is one of the most knowledgeable people I've seen on M1903 family of rifles. Good luck on your restoration.
@Kabul81 Thanks, yes I agree - BLO does look nice with a few coats. My next restoration project will probably use Fairtrimmers due to time constraints.

There's 1 American-hater among us, lol jk...... but I still don't know why someone didn't like this, though. I know I sure did.

Seems like all the people that own these are afraid to shoot em in videos. I haven't seen on being fired yet.

Nice
I collect 03's & A3's as well, your stock would look a lot nicer with some BLO or TUNG oil finish and sanding in between coats!
