I have found a few hidden shafts up there, the longest bout 200ft straight in.In total i have found 8 mine shafts...I still go up and look for more periodically.Too bad not much left of the town though...Any one want to go up together one day ?
@escapetosaltspring I live in view Royal,,Let me know if ya want to meet up and go. I have a small truck. One big shaft I recently found is about a 15 min walk from where I park the truck...I have weekends off.
You can still find traces of the old townsite of you know where to look today. I swear the main ore seam is on the other side of the mountain however. They just never did get that far yet.
Good news I have not been creamed by a oversized logging truck. The thing is there is no history left up there. It has been torn out. If you go up there you will not find anything. the only thing left is the titles on the map. Thanks for the comment Capitalist. I am a very proud Capitalist and if I could I would sell tickets to my own funeral after I was creamed by the over sized logging truck. Have a great day thanks for the comment. Cheers Scott
thanks for your insight into Mt Sicker. It is very interesting place. This summer I'm planning another trip. Too bad there is nothing left of the town.
It went down hill pretty fast from all the party action it saw from I guess the then grad students. ha ha ..... From a place that claimed to be Vancouver islands third largest town site at the trun of the 1900s with hotels and general stores, its kind of sad that everything was allowed to just rot away. It would be cool to see your plans for the area! Cheers to bad all my posts get posted here out of order :-(
One was a sample shed that you could walk in and open drawrs and still see the core samples neatly stored away and cataloged. Another building just down from the vertical shaft was like a bunk house for the crew. It was still standing but barely. Inside were still rows and rows of metal bunk bed frames. Also close to the vertical shaft was a house that was in pretty good shape still.
Hey Scott, You're about 20 years too late to see anything of the town site. Unfortunately years of vandalizm ,and in recent years, logging, there is nothing left and if you didn't know the area well, you'll drive right by it and not know it. Back in the mid 70s when i was just a little guy, my dad used to take us into the mountains for sunday drives. One of my favourite places to go was the mt. Sicker mine site. At that time there were still the mine shafts and lots of buildings still standin
One with a winch shack close by went straight down and you could walk to the side and look down and see cars and fridges that people had dumped down the hole. The other was lower down the mountain and had narrow gauge rail tracks coming out of the horizontal shaft. You could walk in about 50 feet before the floor started to get flooded. Up above there were many building still standing.

It is one massive ore seam the mining companies have it all staked.

Youre a sick phuck. Capitalist phuck. Not funny, our history is not for sale.
I hope you get creamed by an over sized logging truck
