  • this does not work. does anyone know where does this sound come from?... fan, processor, hdd or what?

  • she does not know what she is taking about... Girl, go back to playing with make-up.

  • Your video is popular on Russia

  • I wouldn't care if the sound were your voice, haha

  • This vid is a favorite on Sudan

  • My vaio just makes these high annoying sounds when gaming..

  • sony repair sucks and only want ur money

  • HA FUNCIONADO PERFECTO PARA MI!!! MUCHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIISIMAS GRACIAS!!

  • ur laptop speakers will never work if sony does nothing to find the solution.nd i m sure they wont.

  • ur sony company wont help all of u people should use usb plugin speakers to get atleast the sound back.

  • i solved this problem by uninstalling my audio driver software nd reinstalled it did all the windows updates nd i use external usb plugin speakers nd this method works better than all above

  • Very good ...but .... forget the "you could do this ...you could do that" ... get right to the point

  • Forget Vaio sound , you gotta a nice voice :).

  • Great video, but not what i was looking for :( I was hoping for a instructional video on cleaning out these computers....(Dust)...thank you have a great day...excellent video

  • Do you have problems with the bluetooth? my mouse keeps disconnecting itself, I have found it is not the mouse but the PC.

  • @raulmdiaz Try the firmeware update on the Sony Vaio support Homepage.

    GL, tasselino

  • so the high-pitched noise was ur voice right?

  • :)

  • Thank you so much! Thanks Thanks Thanks and Danke! I am so happy! :-)

  • I love your voice.....it rids my vaio of the buzzing sound

  • Please help it does not help me, it's driving me crazy right now, i just got today my brand new f12s1e and this whistle sound is just there, even after i disable the mic, it#s not consistant now, but is like every 20 sec for 5 sec, driving me really crazy... help anyone...

  • Thank you, this was very helpful - after this sound began to make me crazy....

  • I was surprised that my VPCF13NFX had this problem (my mistake for thinking Sony would have addressed this after the 11 series) and your config changes seemed to have done the trick. It was driving me to seriously contemplate taking it back but now I don't have to! Thank you!

  • Worked for me. Now it is almost silent, at least this reason (microphone) is gone

  • Bless you! The whining on my Vaio has been driving me nuts - and Sony were absolutely ZERO help... Finally after months of updates I came across your video and the second Mic trick worked like a charm! A thousand thanks!

  • I don't have this particular computer, but was experiencing a identical problem. This worked well, but I have heard the noise so much by now its like I am still hearing it inside me head. lol thanks for the video your a lifesaver

  • Hey man. I found a solution to this. Run Sony Vaio Care and run the performance troubleshooter. It will change the processor's min. power stage to 5%. Or you can do this manually through control panel. The best part is is that the computer doesn't heat up, which is really good and the noise should be gone. This worked for me. Let me know if this worked for you. Thanks!

  • way to go! exactly what i needed!

  • Would have been nice to have a moment of silence to hear the sound (wasn't possible in this vid).

@issue: It's very likely an interference and that can happen on normal PCs too. High pitch sounds can come from the processor or graphics card. Some graphic cards make a sound that is audible even when there are no speakers,e.g. when scrolling. When you have a mic that has an analog input (or analog line-in), that interference signal gets amplified and audible.

  • I bet the noise has something to do with the louder than usual laptop speakers.... whatever the case, your video was the answer to my question! I googled high pitch noise f series Vaio, and your video was one of the top results. I'm very glad I found it, and very glad you were able to figure it out! Thanks again!

  • Thank you very much. I googled F series noise... Morse code noise, then your video was one of this highest search results... I watched the video and was skeptical; but figured what the hell... and I'm glad I did. It took care of the problem! I had similar issue with Sony saying just to send it back, but I only paid $830 for my unit... I'm so glad now, that was the ONLY issue wrong with it. Thanks!!

  • i got the silver color =]

  • That mic noise fix works also to solve a similar noise problem on some ASUS & HP Envy 17 notebooks as you can read in the comments & on several threads. It works on my Vaio F11 as you can see here: youtube.com/watch?v=OjINGudIi-s

  • Thanks a lot, worked for Asus x64jv-jx124v!

  • just turn it on when you want to use it lol not hard!!!!

  • If you change the recording quality under the "Advanced" tab of the microphone properties to "CD Quality" 48Hz, will fix the problem. Sometimes you have to Select Studio Quality 96Hz, press OK, go back to the properties and change it back to DVD Quality before the change can take effect. I have written Sony about the issues with "CD Quality" settings as it seems to effect 3 generations of Sony Vaio's.

  • THANK YOU wonderful lady

  • THANK YOU VERY MUCH!

I was having the same problem with my new HP. I was about to return the computer. Then I saw this video. You are wonderful.

  • wow... this is my first laptop, i thought this product is great... but, the high pitched gave me some headaches... thanks... i hope there wont be anymore problem...

i think sony is good in making tv, camera, home theatre, etc... but, they just making some rubish in the phone and computer products...

  • I had a high noise (as a old screen) on my Sony VAIO EB1M1E/BJ. I returned it directly to amazon, im waiting a new one, so if it does it again, i'll try your solution !

  • Thank you cccmaverick! I purchased a VPCF11S1E two weeks ago, and the high pitched sound was driving me crazy. I followed her instructions and now nothing but the odd low level fan noise (every now and then). I should add that I also clicked on the "Levels" tab and turned my microphone down to 50% volume - for some reason is was set to 100%.

  • oh thanx!!!! that was veeeeery helpful!!!

i got my new vaio vpc f11s1e (greece) and a few days after my ear fot stuck to that annoying whistling sound coming from the keyboard... for a moment i thought it was a fan sound or the cpu... but after making these adjustments, thank to youtube, now the terrible sound is gone for good... relief!!!

  • thank goodness my don't have this sound

  • all i hear is the fan

  • Thank you! It helped!

  • What characteristis does it have

  • the problem is bigger than what you think, i had technician came to my house today and basically took everything out from the laptop including motherboard CPU etc... placed shield padding and spent 3-4 hours, problem still exists. I will return it tomorrow.

  • So have you been having any other problems with it?

  • Hi, I'm James from the Philippines. I wonder if the F Series model here in the Pihilippines has the same problem with the U.S. version? I'm afraid to buy this laptop because of these problems.. The model available here is: VPCF116FG/BI

  • Thx !!

  • good stuff... its probably the graphics card fan over spinning

  • Just exchanged the Vaio for a Samsung.

Its the fan. A single small fan cooling a i7 and a 330m is just too much.

I am absolutely surprised how quiet the new computer is compared to the Vaio.

I have bought Vaios for 12 years. I feel as if I have betrayed a friend.

  • @dinnerandashow cool the better performance...

  • I don't think mine had this problem, but one thing I can't figure out is that when I plug in headphones to the headphone jack, I cannot get any sound to play through the headphones. I've tried multiple headphones and no luck. Does anyone else have any problems getting sound through their headphones?

  • GOD DAMN THNAK YOU, IT WAS GETTING ME INSANE, I COULDN'T STAND THIS NOISE ANYMORE. THANK YOUuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • This trick doesn't work.

The new driver does not fix the problem.

I think I will return my computer today.

  • @dinnerandashow I agree the new driver did nothing to fix it and I checked them out just this last weekend. Did you try all the tricks or just one of them? If ya tried all sorry it didn't work for ya and hope you can get a refund.

  • @dinnerandashow Ye it does, at least for me and a few folks

  • @elder007br

So basically I am a liar?

Where does your all seeing eye powers come from?

  • great video

  • Just a heads up, that sony has a updated driver for this situation.

  • @HoofPony can you be more specific with driver date or name because I've installed the ones listed on the sony site for my computer VCPF115FM and they did nothing to solve the problem. I am very experienced in installing drivers(not that you need to be) and my father is an electrical engineer so I have no doubt that they loaded correctly

  • Thanks for the vid! great info... seems like a good comp. Unfortunately mine crashed to blue screen about 20 times within two weeks fixed only by resetting from recovery partition and then it completely died & wouldn't boot. Unfortunately 1 day after my 14day Future Shop allowance... am waiting on a replacement. Hope it will work. Have you had any problems with yours?

  • howz the battery life? and is the charger really a big brick? or smaller in size? pls reply

  • @rajeshkota the batt will last about three hours. but you have to reasonable about brightness and dvd playback is going to shorten life. It does have a large power brick just eyeballing it it is about 3X7 inches. mine came with a brochure where you could order a smaller one but it cost a bundle.

  • ROCK ON! Thanks!

  • So other than this sound is it stable give me some + and - opinions

  • @ladev1988 I find it very stable. no probs with wireless, mic, camera, bluetooth, I found easy to adjust to win7. The blu ray is great and pic looks good. still like the back-lit keyboard. I use these features daily and love the convenience and I still feel like I paid a good price and got the power I wanted. The fan does disturb some but as I've said before this laptop doesn't overheat and it really isn't that loud. the default setting need to changed when you get it but then it is very nice.

  • OMG THANK YOU SO MUCH! I Just bouth this notebook on USA last month when I was there, and now I'm in Brazil back, that where I live, and this fucking sound was DRIVING ME CRAZY!!!! oh my god, really really thx! Love you!

  • Is this Tunguska on the wallpaper?

  • Seven Devils Wilderness Loop (30 mi) IDAHO, USA. I hiked it with a group several years ago. This is us actually cutting off trail because we 'stopped to smell the roses' and we were behind schedule.

  • Hi guy... Thanks for the vid.. the third solution works for Asus N61J too...:)

  • So by setting it to Digital Output, what does this ultimately do to your computer system? Any setbacks versus the default setting it was in? Thank you very much for this video I have a brand new F series myself and that last option worked beautifully. :)

  • WOW!!!!!

Thank you VERY MUCH C!!!! Works Perfect!!!

I was getting crazy with that noise!!

  • Thank you so much for stopping me getting insane .... that freaking hi pitched noise is gone ... =)

  • ive officially returned mine. and am the most happiest person in the world. I ordered a premium laptop....not a damn hair dryer. There is no reason why my fan just constantly runs, even without loading any internet or apps. Its like a hair dryer inside my notebook. Typical cheap , american peice of plastic junk. Thre are thouands of reviews about sony fan problems all over the net. Im going to get to the bottom of this problem and report to consumer protection agency because this isnt right....

  • for me... this ONLY thing that could be better is a LED blacklight screen! but nvm, the screen is very good with the Full HD resolution and has a good bright too! but My another Sony Vaio SR (13") that has LED backlight... this screen is more bright for sure!! Vaio F is so much better in this point than my old Vaio FZ that do not has LED too! omg I'm so happy with this computer... =D

  • by the way, i am hearing this buzzing noise as well and those options do not work with mylaptop. i tried each one are there any other solutions to this problem?

  • @advancedwarfighter07 I think you have a premium Sony Vaio F laptop! mine is perfect! I would never buy a mac and I do think Sony is the best! I have a Acer (omfg don't buy this crap), a HP (this is a nice one, but not so beautiful and the trackpad sux) and another 2 Sony Vaios! And I will tell you... this sony vaio F is very powerfull, my fan cooler isn't loud, btw it's very quite, just can hear it when I'm playing... and I can play L4D on max with all on hight/very high and AA 16x! AWESOME!

  • I JUST RECIEVED THIS LAPTOP TODAY. I am not experiencing any high pitched squeal. But the FAN is just constantly running loud, and is driving me insane. Even when Im not using apps or internet.. IT JUST RUNS!! are you experiencing this? from the second I turned this laptop on the fan would just blaze loudly!!! I dont know, are you experiencing this??

  • hi , great vid!! i was hoping someone can give me any of the cons or disadvantages of buying this laptop!! im planning to buy it in a couple of days...... so any problems or disadvantages plz reply to me soon!!!! thnks in advance

  • DONT BUY IT, its cheap build quality is made out of plastic. the fan runs constant with no peace and quiet. GET A MAC. do yourself a favour and buy a real computer that is mean to be used right out of the box. AGAIN, the fan is a constant annoiance. sorry for the bad news but its true!

  • hmmmm lol.. damn, i wanted to use a windows based platform. ill need it for university, 1) is it like gonnna break ??

    2) are there anyother "REAL" laptops in the 1100 pricepoint that i can buy?? thnks alot mate...

  • @sid17391 Well, Ill admit, theis laptop isnt totally a peice of junk. But I think the hype for it doesnt compare to the reality of this machine. It doesnt have an LED scree. it is loud, and it is very bulky. I would save my money and go with a vaio CW series. They have an LED screen and are light, portable, and quiet. But for school, Id just go with a good build quality that is durable. anything with an aluminum body. Most no names such as acer,or HP even are built better than Sonys.

  • hey dude, wats the difference between a led screen and the one sony f series has??

    thnks mate

  • yes fan louder than other laptops. I've had 3 HP don't stay cool bc don't put in a big nuf fan and you have to go in with thermal gel to improve heat dissipation and update bios so fan runs longer.I'd rather hear a fan more often. This com stays cool I haven't had hot spots. This com also has a lot of pwr and creates more heat, needs more cool. I've found this com durable I carry it around all the time. IF you get it adjust settings sony sends out w/things set to min. needs tweek to perform.

  • Hey, I just have this problem when i`m using some USB port! when i`m free of USB's I this freaking noise just go away! btw, I have the same model! So how about you guys? when you can hear this sound, are you using some USB?

  • oh dear lord. thank you!

  • I have heard of companies not just sony refusing to help with dead pixels. last time I heard this was a big prob with nintendo ds lites. THe production was so bad almost all had a bad pix or more. The part I hate is that they consider it within their production standards. They consider it ok if it happens every once in a while. I'm sorry for your prob. hope you really pursue the issue so you can get a better outcome than "it's normal"

  • I also have a problem that the touchpad sensitivity settings resets itself with every restart. So after every reboot I must go into the Vaio Control Center (via the S1 button) and set it up again. Anyone else experiencing this?

  • Problem solved. It was caused by Logitech Setpoint software, which should be set to "OS Implementation" rather than Setpoint implementation under gaming mouse settings (the castle icon).

  • And you do have a very nice voice by the way, perfect for narration and a pleasure to listen to :)

  • Thanks a lot, this was a great help. I just had my mother buy this model and I instantly noted this "electric noise/buzzing". First I thought it had something to do with charging.

The solution worked for me too. the noise is still there, but only a fraction the volume of before, only really audible when you move your head down - good enough for me. Sony should still make a software fix for this somehow, preferably fix hardware too. Otherwise great machine, awesome specs. Thanks for sharing.

  • That actually works. Thanks a lot.

Microphone works too, I did not noticed any problems, used Live Messenger, VOIP programs and everything is OK

  • I'll bought yesterday VPCF115FM at BestBuy and got exactly same problem, now I am in different country and Sony over a phone told me it is a hardware problem, I'll try this solution tonight but thanks for that video anyway, it's great

  • Thx ccmaverick! Great vid...

I may buy me that pretty baby too, but i still have got some doubts. Maybe you can help me with some questions.

I read in some forums that older vaio models with build-in ssd, only ran on IDE velocity, because Sony didn't match their BIOS...

Do you have a SSD build-in? If yes, did you check its velocity?

    Thx, tasselino

  • your question is a bit over my head. It has peaked my interest , i want to learn more, but until I understand some new concepts, I can't figure the answer. I will ask some friends and I'll try to get back to ya on this one.

  • cool, your an extremely good narrator :)

  • one think I dont like is the short battery life I seem to be lucky if I get 2 hours out of it. Maybe I should adjust some settings.

  • ya but when you have the power who cares abt having to plug in and 4 yrs ago you were lucky if your laptop lasted longer than an hour

  • Just so everyone knows, you don't have to "select Apply, and then Okay." If you just click "Okay" it automatically applies it. =P

Oh, also, is the fan really that loud? I noticed it the whole video and was distracted.. ha

  • cool..i love this computer to death only gripe...fan too loud

  • yup fan is a little loud but a laptop with this much power needs to stay cool and this computer does. I've seen 2 that didn't and they fried themselves after 2 years. compared to a desktop it is a whisper. my fam owns 7 or 8 laptops this one is not much louder. mine also stays the coolest and it is the coolest

  • How do you get your font and stuff so large? I just bought it and everything looks tiny...even youtube is tiny. when I have internet explorer maximized only the middle section shows the webpage and majority of the right and left side are blank I guess it's due to the high resolution or something?

  • to adjust text size goto control panel-> Appearance and Personalization-> Display you can choose text there also do the setup for the cleartype test just follow the prompts and it kinda goes along like an eye test the link is on the left of the same window where you change font size

  • you can adjust explorer to zoom in so that everything isn't stuck in the middle. it is hard to describe let me direct you to the properties so you can enable pinch zoom. start menu-> control panel-> Hardware and Sound-> then at the top under Devices and Printers you should see Mouse listed. Click it and this will bring up the properties for the mouse pad. select the Multi-touch gestures tab there you can enable pinch zoom and look the right of the list and there are VIDEOS how nice is that?

  • Thanks ! :)

  • i returned this computer after having it for a few weeks, i did have the buzzing and i did do the solutions u had, but even that, the fan was sooo loud and i just could not take the many problems that a new laptop should not have

  • maverick,

If you know any tips or tricks with this computer please let us know.

  • keep checking back or watch out for more vids. I'm still figuring what this thing can do. I have been getting some msgs with q's and so far I think I have been helpful. I am making a list of possible items for a next vid. don't ya loove your computer? I do!

  • ok great! It worked. Man that noise was annoying.

    Thanks a lot!

  • i was thinking of buying this computer. and i have talked to the sony and they said they fixed this issue already.. can anyone tell me if they did?

  • @lop3z9

i just bought mine and it has the noise. im going to try to get off though.

  • I have talked to sony through email 4 times and 3 times in online chat and they said they are working on it or that I should send it in or that I should go back to best buy and exchange it.. youtube has given me the info in the video clip and that has given me much more satisfaction than SONY

  • Thanks for the video. i'm very close to buying this machine. However I was wondering why CNET didn't have any reviews on the F series. Is it because it's a newer machine? I really couldn't find and legitimate reviews on it anywhere else. I really like it but I was concerned that it hasn't been reviewed or on any top laptop lists. Any info anyone can provide would help alot.

    THanks,

    Brandon

  • I had the same worry when I had only buyers reviews. and I was worried about the sound I thought that was going to be a deal killer. people complain abt grey screen they can adjust that in settings, they complain abt light up keyboard that can be adjusted in settings. the speakers are decent not the best but when I need better sound connect it to better speakers. I love that this computer doesn't have an heat prob and battery life is pretty good. I have had this for 2 weeks now and I love it!

  • wats wrong with the light up keybaord????????, im seriously considering this laptop to buy in a few days, it truly beats out the competition but i need to know its drawbacks!! thnks in advance

  • Nothing. it is a personal pref whether you like it it or not..It has been setup mostly righ: white led, ambient light detect, shuts off if inactive. I haven't looked but I've not seen a place where you can adjust the settings for the backlight so it possible that default is only option you have. You may not have the option to turn off or adjust brightness. I'll look around and get back to ya. I really like the backlit keyboard. I can type but it helps me find F-keys and other additional keys.

  • no this model is pretty freakin awesome for the price. buy buy buy! core 7i, 1g video card, 6g ram, 500g hd.....no brainer man. hard drive is a 5400rpm but it is easily switched to a 7200rpm.

  • i had to turn off my mic too when i installed win 7 ultimate on my dell inspiron 510m

  • I just bought this today, waiting for it to come in. Thanks for this informative video!

  • nice job CCC!
