I person tried to listen to this underwater," That was the good side baby now comes the bad side " classic forever in the hearts and minds of those that love and have loved.Fly on Brother Play on Drummer.
I read that he was so proud of this song because the guitar tracks are patched together end to end, as if it was one performance - but some of the changes couldn't be done as quickly without that cutting and splicing. anyway, i love this one
I've seen jH twice- March, 1968 at the Shrine in LA, CA, and at Hollywood Bowl in September, 1968.
At his HB gig, he intro'd one song with something like, "This one's already been done by someone else, hope you like our version", and then they launched their cover of "Sunshine of Your Love".
Damn, now I'm wondering if he did 51A at either of those gigs.
I think 51A is on the "Smash Hits" album, but I might have heard it before that was released.
Please everyone, we need to show respect for The Experience, the people who played along with him. They were his band and deserve credit for this song too :)
this song..was not any american release in the beginning. i had seen a greatest hits kinda record in the store,,,on tracks label..and brought it home. when i heard this song..and the song... can you see me,,,i truely then knew what a super star he would be in the future. i saw him twice up close and personal in LA. it was charisma supreme.
i was seeing the Seeds playing at the Hullabaloo, a great small place,
and the announcer told us a band named Jimi Hendrix was playing next week. We all looked at each other and no knew who that was,,,so we didn't go. 2 weeks later, he played at Monterey Pop Festival.. and the news was out, Hendrix was incredible.
Nice insults.... What would the Jimi say to someone like you? I mean your a straight up ass hole EnterFeared. Why don't you live by the music... Peace yo peace....
@voodoochild85858 The studio and live recordings of Hendrix are like night and day; listening to one will give you no idea how good the other is.
The live stuff (at its best) shows his jaw-dropping technical virtuosity and otherworldly improvisational imagination; the studio recordings show how superb and underrated he is as a songwriter and composer.
@polymath7 You identify one of the qualities that underscores what makes JMH such a complete and pantheon quality artist. The dialectic between his studio formulations, and his live appearance work yields a higher order synthesis of god-like guitar virtuosity and visionary song writing, layered together via his expansive producing/orchestrating style, fueled by a ferocious passion for his mission: To reduce human suffering with his cultural productions. The intro to this song is always new.
You couldn't be more right, mate. To be honest only came upon this song. Heard the intro in the background of some Jimi radio program. "fifty years" and "they can't wait" were the only words I could figure out, had to go through all of Jimi's songs to see which one contained these words. More than worth it in the end tho, hehe.
Not on the original one, in 1967. The recent "Are you experienced" re-issue contains the original LP plus the hit singles . 51st anniversary was "Purple Haze" B side , on the second Hendrix single, following "Hey Joe". They reached #3 in GB. Not too bad for a secret song...
nice

What I love about this song is the pure R&B sound Hendrix gets while also getting the full sound out of the stratocaster.

I'll never understand how such a good song never made onto the 1st or 2nd LP.
If a radio station ever had the balls to play this song people would wonder why they never heard it before. Too good to have been hidden away.
