Two best movie themes ever, IMHHO: "Psycho" and "Jaws!" Neither movie would have had the impact they did without their soundtracks. Notice in "Psycho" how the frantic theme starts the moment Janet Leigh's boss sees her fleeing town in her car, when she was suspposedly home sick with a headache. From then on, the suspense began and kept builidng!
@atlmuscleman Yeah, they played the theme at the exact best time, like that part. I was truly taken by that, you see i'm 15 and watched it first today. It was better than alot of todays horror movies... Wait, it's the best of the 2000's... almost. Only the 70's and 80's horrors can prove better than this movie.
Though Psycho is the father of all slahser movies! Thank god we had Hitchcock!!
Just found them. Also try to watch Mel Brook's film "HIGH ANXIETY" especially the shower scene. If you've never seen it, I'm sure you'll find it hilarious. I'm just about to search for it myself!
'A walk in the shadows' is a two minute tense short revolving around Harry murdering his girlfriend as she found out his dark past, little does he know she has already told others.
Hey guys, we've made a new rock song about this great film, as well as songs about other awesome films such as The Wicker Man and The Departed. Please take some time to listen to some of our stuff :)
Okay, this is a serious question. I have never seen Psycho, but when I stumbled across this song on a CD, I can hum this melody verbatim. Where else would the whole song be used? It's not from a sample- I somehow know this entire song.
@lemonade17 Have you ever seen Re-Animator? Although it's not absolutely identical note-for-note, they did re-use/homage the Psycho theme as the RA theme.
If you have a pshyco X, use this as their ring tone.. while hearing it.. PARY she/he is not at your front door... or staring through your window.. or even worse.. IN YOUR HOUSE!!! But I love this theme
I feel like the 0:30 - 0:43 segment has been used prominently in the score of some other film/television programme (other than the Re-Animator theme), can anybody help me out? I'm really hoping I haven't just heard it in the background of some horror film related clip show.
@ustink0815 Thats idd kinda what i ment, it gives the intention your being chased by a fhuckin' psycho, and you gotta be crazy of you come up with this?
@YinsShadow It was publicity photos. Just to advertise Psycho before it came out in cinemas and Hitchcock didnt want to give it away that Marion was killed in the shower.
If you were the director, you wouldn't want the audience to suspect what's going to happen in the movie before they've even seen it, now would you? Therefore, there's nothing weird about the poster.
Tony Perkins was great in this movie (he doesn't get enoutgh credit). Can anyone forget him fidgeting around as the car sank in the swamp?! Aren't there swamps in the back of all roadside motels? How convienient! How hot is Janet Leigh in this movie?! Hitchcock was overtly sexual in most of his movies, and he loved the blondes.
Yes, i agree. Alfred Hitchcock was brilliant. His organization and insight was profound. For example, he filmed `Psycho` in black&white but `Rear Window` in color. As another example, Mr. Cassidy. I think that he represents the `vices` within people. And the policeman (who we`re supposed to trust) telling Crane that she should have gone to a motel, "..just to be safe..".The rain and the sun, the night and the day, in all the right places. Amazing.
@iDreamOfJulia The book is a novel called, what do you know?, "Psycho" by Robert Bloch. In it, Norman Bates is not a creepy old man; he is a pudgy, middle-aged man with a drinking problem. A great example of Hitchcock's brilliance came in his casting young, handsome, charming Anthony Perkins who does pretty the same things that Bates does in the novel. Only movie audiences somehow accept it because he is "handsome and charming." What does that say about human nature?
@UncleCharlieOakley In my opinion, because Norman suffers from a "split personality," we're taught "not to judge" or, at least, "TRY NOT TO judge a cover by its cover."
In my opinion, THEE GREATEST SLASHER FILM AND GREATEST HORROR FILM, in general, EVER or EVER MADE-and my PERSONAL FAVORITE SLASHER AND HORROR FILM OF ALL TIME, as well!
With all due respect for Hitchcock's artistry, credit should really be given here to Bernard Herrmann, the composer of this powerful sound score, and a frequent Hitchcock collaborator. This is, more specifically, Bernard Herrmann's Psycho Theme.
@marcgibsontube, dude, by "Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho" I mean his movie. If you haven't noticed "theme" is in brackets. That means that it's the theme of the movie, duuh.
@cyberneticchaos Thanx 4 posting one of the all time great movie themes. It's a shame when people want to show off what they know (who's theme it really is) when it's not even applicable. Hitchcock was the master of suspense, beyond a "shadow of a doubt"..

@DataLady09 I have a double CD of most Hitchcock themes, including this one...it has a bloody drain on the cover. Dunno the record company who put it out though--I'll check. :0.50...one of the scariest moments in film history...and it was that face that sealed anthony perkins fate for ever being anyone other than norman bates
great moment was the quick subliminal flash of the skull over his face..... fucking brilliant - writers/directors need to take some serious lessons from the master.
