I like your DIY focus fix and am busy making a similar kit. What lens do you have on your gopro? I've replaced the standard lens with the GoPro flat clear lens but am getting venetting. Did you remove the standard lens in the 2nd part of your vid?
The good thing about this mod is that suddenly your front element (can be) a super-multi-coated element, rather than GoPro's nasty, reflective, curved housing lens.
Doesn't this get foggy? I would think you'd need moisture beads in the lens to prevent it, anyway Go pro just came out with the diving casing which has a flat lens, I say just buy that because all the supplies you used prob ends up being the same price as the new case
excellent vid. have you done any calculations or tests for pressure? saw a previous comment about going to 60ft (18m). wonder if it'll go to 100ft (30m) [recreational deep diving depth] or a little more without cracks developing.
and a suggestion for anyone getting a flat edge all round the baby bottle cap (3:45), place the sandpaper flat on the table and sand the cap against the paper. :)
awesome video. I was debating on buying the Eye of Mine lens for much more but now that I see how easy it is I will definitely give it a try. Just to make sure, you keep the original lens on, and glue the new focus fix one over the top to make sure that it doesn't leak, right? Also, how much do the uv lens cost and would you recommend buying a polarized one? Thanks
@goprokid2 You could get a polarized lens but it would only help if you were looking at the surface of the water. Underwater, however, it shouldnt make a difference at all. And yes you keep the original, and it is imperative that you make sure its water tight.
@billabongxx9 I guess I am not sure why you think 720p is better than 1080p? And this isnt about a resolution problem, as its more of a focus problem. If I am not understanding what you mean let me know and I will do my best to answer it.
@billabongxx9 ahhh i see well like i know when they do wear these in like motocross or anything like that they use 720p cause it shows up better but i can see how your trying to get it to focus
@billabongxx9 720p 60fps is a much smoother shot when shooting with action sports (ie, downhill longboarding, motocross, etc.). but 1080p is much better quality
I was just wondering, could you actually put this to the test and upload another video besides the fishing trip on, I want to focus but I want to see if it's worth my time :) many thanks
@EllisGentertainments Sure, most of the water around me is kind of murky. Ill look through my footage and see whats there. But it is def crystal clear.
I have had this go to 60ft attached to a down rigger while trolling on a boat. Yes, there is some extra reflection with this fix when you are NOT in the water. What I did, is I made one case for underwater and then ordered an extra case for if I was doing anything on land. Since I specifically got this camera for underwater viewing I use my modified case the most. As for actually removing the original lens, I did not think of that. I might try that.

@goprokid2 nice idea. you can actually turn the inside lens and front focus to correct the blur then it will work in all modes.
RageCams now offers lens change for gopro, filters, flat lenses, & unique mounts, and modifications no offered anywhere else.

great video!!
how deep it can go? has some reflexes from others lens? Out of water it shoots normally as without this?
and mount this system without the other curved lens from the housing, the image quality will increase much better?
i was getting hopeless with my underwater videos, without focus and poor image.
Thank you
