A country with such a unshakeable two-party-system as the U.S. simply cannot afford one of these parties being complete fools! The less players are in the game, the easier it is for corruption to spread. Because this means less competition! Elections in America today are largely just a big show. A country with such a unshakeable two-party-system as the U.S. simply cannot afford one of these parties being complete fools! Because this is THE END of democracy (as any responsible voter can only go to the polling both, and "decide" to chose the only eligible party). That is why EITHER the Republican Party seriously needs to brighten up, OR there ought to be MORE relevant parties, with more differentiated political agendas! Right now, people can just vote for either idiocy, of powerlessness.

@taxiuniversum honestly i don't think the problem is not having enough parties. the problem is that corporations are allowed to buy politicians. if a 3rd party became as powerful as the Reps and Dems, corporations would just buy that one too. what we really need to do is limit or ban corporate "donations" to politicians, that way money won't be a corrupting factor in politics. either that, or have so many powerful parties that corps can't afford them all, but we'd need thousands of them.

The less players are in the game, the easier it is for corruption to spread. Because this means less competition! Elections in America today are largely just a big show. First, everyone collects billions. Then they make a few heartwarming propaganda movies. Then the best fiction wins. Polls show, that a HUGE majority of Americans actually have a good sense about what is wrong. But they can´t coin this in REAL political work, as they get screwed by their own corrupted parties!

@taxiuniversum i'm completely aware of all that. what i'm saying is that throwing in a 3rd or 4th or 10th major political party wouldn't change much, because corporations would buy them as well and they'd act just as Dems and Reps are acting now. so IMO it's more realistic to prevent corporations from owning politicians than it is to try and convince people to vote in other parties. at the same time it's not that realistic, since politicians won't pass legislation that hurts their bosses.

We are talking about one, maximum two new players, who could stand for demanding rigorous controls to open or covert corruption, for instance, for a balanced and secured-from-abuse modern welfare system, for a end to the idiocy of massive military spending, for contemporary efforts to protect the environment, and for sincere and human relations to other countries.

@taxiuniversum that all sounds great on paper, and may be possible at some point in the future. but as of now, the U.S govt is owned by corporations. doing all of that stuff would hurt their profits, so anyone who tries to do any of those things will be immediately shut down.
