  • I've watched a dozen french braid videos today, and this is the first one where I can the hands are both visible and slow enough to follow. I also appreciated the simple instructions--grab hair, put on top...grab hair, put on top. I'm feeling confident already.

  • @missgrumpy15 dont be discouraged... i cant do it either. i can do side braids, that's it. my hands cant figure out how to braid down the back of my head because it feels backwards.

  • Now, i know this is something you can do at home. WE GOT IT THE 1ST TIME!

  • Lmfao why doesn't mine look like that...

Thumbs up for being black and proud! ♥

[ Not that race really matters, we're all human]

  • its hard to see watcha dng bc your hair is black!

  • I liked ur vid. Now I know one more way to do my girlfriends hair, and daughters hair in the future.

  • great video! this is the only video that successfully teaches me how to french braid my own hair:D

  • super hard!

  • this is super hard!

  • It was really hard for me!

  • I tried to do it and my dad did to he said that it was impossible when he did it to me it ended up in a knot it was really funny!

  • I tried to do it and my dad tryed it he said that it was impossible when he did it to me it ended up in a knot it was really funny!

  • this is really hard to do, at least for me, because it feels backwards. i'm used to braiding my hair down on one side by my shoulder. i get the concept of what i'm supposed to do but my hands just won't seem to work that way and the hair keeps falling :(

  • the ppl who liked this vid must have x-ray vision because i couldnt see anything

  • it can't see with the words!

  • I cant see! Her hair is too dark and the camera is too far!

  • Great video, very helpful.

  • that really helped thanks :)

  • Her hair looks damaged....And is she going to leave those short broken-off ends hanging like that?

  • wow thank you soooooooooooo much! I got it.

  • i can probly do this on someone else but i cnt do it on myself!!!!!!! i cant even do a normal braid on myself i have to bring my hair to the side to do it....so i can do a side braid loool but not a straight one dwn...aaaaaaaaah so frustrating!!! xxx

  • HOLY CAPTIONS!!!!

  • this looks easy but it is actually hard. i hate you sylvia russel

  • OMG funniest video over she also looks like she is gonna cry on the begining

  • ew she has gunk in her hair.

  • you're so helpful! thanks!

  • Thank U soooo much for this video!!! I have been wanting to learn how to french braid since forever... This video made it so simple!!! Thanks a bunch!

  • That was the best braid tutorial ever, you guys are just whiners :P I finally did it right :)

  • thanks. i just braided my hair by following you. great video!

  • that was PERFECT i just watched the whole video and braided my hair . thanks alot .

  • Thanks for simple non complicated directions!

  • This so doesn't make sense to me. I need someone to go slower and step by step. When I was taught to braid, I was taught to go under so the whole going over this is confusing me. Plus I have very long hair so this is difficult.

  • MY GOD! No one can EVER explain how to Go over, what fingers hold which piece of hair and where do you place your fingers to keep the 3 strands seperate? NO ONE EXPLAINS SLOWELY STEP MY STEP! just Grab, fold over, grab as you go. How does that help? when i dont know the finger placement!

  • You'll just have to learn as you go then I guess :)

  • It just depends, I know lots of people do it different ways that I find hard. You have t find what works and feels comfortable to you. I always take right over middle, then left over middle.

  • separate*

    slowly*

i think you mean step BY step

    don't*

  • awesome...

  • awesome!!!

  • OMG!I have always looked up vvideos to try to teach me to french braid and i finallly found one!Thank you so much!(:

  • FINALLY!!!!! I GOT IT!!!!!!!!

  • wow thank you so much i never knew how to french braid know i do you should be a hairstylist!

  • Comment removed

  • you know; you can watch the video more than once .

  • thanks =] that was really helpful. I never knew how to before but now i do =]

  • Now, I know this is something you can do at home.

  • @maekalabearr lmfao!

  • Seems kinda gay for a man to want to know how to FB his own hair.

I couldn't do it, oh well ponytail here we go again.

  • Seems kinda gay for a man to want to know how to FB his own hair but I get tired of it being in a tale all the time.

  • Thank you Sylvia.

Very nice video, and very helpful too.

    It's easier than I thought!

  • yeah i kind of figured out how to french braid my own hair by myself... it's really not hard but the video helped with braiding my friends hair cuase straight hair is so much harder

  • i dont get it :(

  • I am amazed! I am 46 years old and I've never known how to french braid and especially my own hair. I did it the first time while watching your video, I looked in the mirror and it was awsome. I hope I can do it tomorrow morning!! Sheri

  • Thanks!!!! :)

  • thank u =] i always knew how to braid my hair but never a french braid. This helped a lot

  • @blahblahblahman yea ur right but i learned how to braid my hair when i was five but not french braid

  • @blahblahblahman and its a lil hard when you have layered hair ALOT OF LAYERS tell that to all the other youtubers who have trouble with this and stop actin like a smart ass

  • @blahblahblahman:... Uhhh yeah some people never learn. My mom always used to take me to the hair salon, but now that I'm on my own, I need a cheap way to do it myself!! I'm sure this is true for many others!!!

  • yeah I can't see anything..

  • cant do it,!

  • Great video, followed your advice and it worked!

Now if I can find out how to do a rope braid...

  • yey!! worked with me :)

  • Very helpful, Thanks!

  • this is a really good video

  • rofl! i cant do this my hair to thick and and ugh!

  • i don't have enough hands to grab all the sections of hair! :o

  • thanks this is really cool and you explain it perfect and you make it sound so easy and again thanks

  • go on top? wtf? You can go on top with a normal braid! SHOW ME HOW TO FRENCH BRAID!!

  • ugh this is why i hate expert village, then never show how to do it!

    God stupid

  • ahhhhh! i cant understand those hard hard words that you used...hee hee...my hair will not do that no matter what i do...oh well!!! thanks for the tips anyway

  • lol

  • haha she said "i know this is something you can do at home" like 3 three times :D

    this was helpful, thanks!

  • holy god...

she said i know this is something you can do at home like, 20 times!

  • haha i lol the wgole time

  • Lots of detail some others don't show, but it's dark enough that some detail doesn't show. Please redo this one with more light on your hair!

  • i do them on the side

  • Uh, lol thanks? Haha I didn't get ANY of that.

  • so, does she KNOW this is something we can do at home??

  • Yea, she KNOWS this is something we can do at home.

(She said that enough, dontcha think? lol)

  • kinda confusing sofia russel!

  • well it doesn't matter if you can't do that she is a professional.

  • I get what she is saying but I totally failed when I tried to do this.she does it so fast and when I tried to do it it toook me like IDK 30 minutes to do it and I didn't even do it right LOL I suck.

  • - sigh - i completely fail at this

  • My arms got too tired as soon as I put my hands in my hair to braid it.

  • exactly (:

  • It's good exercise! Mine get tired too.

  • lol grab the hair go on top!!!!hahaha

  • maybe YOU guys should pay attention!

  • yayyy i get it...maybe

  • Thank you!

  • she sucks- i found another site that is perfect

  • wtf i don't get it.

  • haha i cant even do it! lol

  • i dont get the grabbing hair part grr

  • as you are doing the brade like before you cross the one strand of hair you grab more hair and add it to the strand then you cross it over and you do it with the other parts to

  • it means you have to do a braid the way you normally do it, except that you grab some hair from outside the plait and plait it in.

  • I cant fricken see her

  • ugh

i cant do it because my arms hurt after only a few braids.....

jeez it will be a miracle if i can actually finish the braid

  • I no right thats always happens 2 me

  • You Go Gurl, I Still Cannot do this. My hair is 37" long, and it's just impossible to separate the strands of hair. When your arms are in front, I just can't reach behind me to separate the lengths of hair, because each strand of hair has to be untangled all the way down to the bottom.. Maybe Good for Shorter hair I guess.

  • my arms do hurt, BUT WOW!!! 3 minute video and already i learned how. NO MORE DOING IT THE HARD WAY WOOHOO! THANK YOU SO MUCH. If i could hug you i would

  • this was very helpful. if only i can keep my arms from getting tired to do two braids!

  • I did it ! Thank you so much, i was trying for years

  • This video's not bad, but the quality's really too low to be able see the hair well enough.

  • I think she said "now i know this is something you can do at home" like 5 times in her less than 3 minute video.

  • Lol i know!

  • lol. everyone who says their arms hurt, dw. once you get enough practice, the pain goes away. probably b/c once you get so good, you'll be braiding so fast, your arms won't be up as much. trust me, i've been there =)

  • thank you

  • wow. i feel extremely stupid!

i have been trying to french braid for a while.

but i could never get it to work.

this video made it so clear.

i still have a little bit of trouble.

    but i'm getting better!

    thanks sylvia!

  • wow... thnx...

  • whenever i try to do this, my arms KILL!!!!!

  • yeah i tried it now my hair is in a big knot!

  • Gosh... I DON'T GET IT! You're going way to fast! D:

  • i just got needles then attempted to do this...not comfortable!! haha this is awesome! im definitely trying it as soon as my arm stops being so numb!! ☺

  • You make it look so easy. It's so hard to do it on myself and my arms feel like they are going to fall off.

  • agreeeee

  • thankyou

  • omg thank you so much....im braiding my own hair now even tho im been tryin for years...u are awesome

  • Awesome, thanks! It seems a lot simpler than I thought it would be, I think I can do it now.

  • If your arms get tired, try sitting in a recliner or laying on a bed & flipping your hair over the edge, then braiding it. You will end up with a little looser braid at the bottom of your head, which makes for a little bit fancier-looking style. Good luck!

  • thanx,my arms get tired so quick.

  • I watched this to see if there were any tips for me: I've been French braiding and underbraiding my hair for about 15 years. I have thick, curly, waist-length hair, & have found braiding the best way to maintain healthy, manageable hair. Your hair's not too long, not too thick. More than anything, I think Sylvia is encouraging you. "I know this is something that you can do at home, so just practice..." Watch again. You can do it! My next comment is just a tip...

  • ....... My Hair's too long I think

  • wtf al she said was grab hair and add it to the top. how the eff is that gunna help me...

  • thanks, i can do it now :)

  • I agree with what FabulousCutie01 says. This is an extremely easy, & elegant way to do your own hair at home in bewteen or instead of going to the salon/shop. I wear French/Dutch Braids all of the time, along with Chignons, Afro-Puffs, a big ol' "Angela Davis" Afro, French Rolls, Two- Strands Twists, Bantu Knots & when I want to wear it straightened-a Press & Curl. French Braids are one of those protective styles that can grow your hair & it adds variety to your "natural hairstyle repertoire".

  • i hate expert village.

    hahahaha

  • It's hard to see...

  • should i practice? can i do this at home? lol my hair is like three times her length!

  • CAN I DO THIS AT HOME????? lol

  • haha lmao

  • omgsh she can count to three and grab hair!!

  • I love French braids because I don't have to use any product in my hair to do it, or any heat appliances. It's a great way to style hair, while keeping it healthy :)

  • hey, do you think I could do this at home? ;) x

  • ha, wow. she is very repetitive.

  • Lmfao.

"I knooow this is something you can do at home."
