I've watched a dozen french braid videos today, and this is the first one where I can the hands are both visible and slow enough to follow. I also appreciated the simple instructions--grab hair, put on top...grab hair, put on top. I'm feeling confident already.
@missgrumpy15 dont be discouraged... i cant do it either. i can do side braids, that's it. my hands cant figure out how to braid down the back of my head because it feels backwards.
Your technique is the best. "grab hair and go on top" I have always wanted to learn to do the french braid. I just saw your video 1x and I was able to do it right away!!! Thanks!! :0
this is really hard to do, at least for me, because it feels backwards. i'm used to braiding my hair down on one side by my shoulder. i get the concept of what i'm supposed to do but my hands just won't seem to work that way and the hair keeps falling :(
i can probly do this on someone else but i cnt do it on myself!!!!!!! i cant even do a normal braid on myself i have to bring my hair to the side to do it....so i can do a side braid loool but not a straight one dwn...aaaaaaaaah so frustrating!!! xxx
Yeah I did a french braid and it came out nice. Thank you for this tutorial. This is the best video I have seen on how to french braid your own hair:) God Bless
Thank U soooo much for this video!!! I have been wanting to learn how to french braid since forever... This video made it so simple!!! Thanks a bunch!
This so doesn't make sense to me. I need someone to go slower and step by step. When I was taught to braid, I was taught to go under so the whole going over this is confusing me. Plus I have very long hair so this is difficult.
MY GOD! No one can EVER explain how to Go over, what fingers hold which piece of hair and where do you place your fingers to keep the 3 strands seperate? NO ONE EXPLAINS SLOWELY STEP MY STEP! just Grab, fold over, grab as you go. How does that help? when i dont know the finger placement!
It just depends, I know lots of people do it different ways that I find hard. You have t find what works and feels comfortable to you. I always take right over middle, then left over middle.
yeah i kind of figured out how to french braid my own hair by myself... it's really not hard but the video helped with braiding my friends hair cuase straight hair is so much harder
I am amazed! I am 46 years old and I've never known how to french braid and especially my own hair. I did it the first time while watching your video, I looked in the mirror and it was awsome. I hope I can do it tomorrow morning!! Sheri

I get what she is saying but I totally failed when I tried to do this.she does it so fast and when I tried to do it it toook me like IDK 30 minutes to do it and I didn't even do it right LOL I suck.
as you are doing the brade like before you cross the one strand of hair you grab more hair and add it to the strand then you cross it over and you do it with the other parts to
You Go Gurl, I Still Cannot do this. My hair is 37" long, and it's just impossible to separate the strands of hair. When your arms are in front, I just can't reach behind me to separate the lengths of hair, because each strand of hair has to be untangled all the way down to the bottom.. Maybe Good for Shorter hair I guess.
my arms do hurt, BUT WOW!!! 3 minute video and already i learned how. NO MORE DOING IT THE HARD WAY WOOHOO! THANK YOU SO MUCH. If i could hug you i would
lol. everyone who says their arms hurt, dw. once you get enough practice, the pain goes away. probably b/c once you get so good, you'll be braiding so fast, your arms won't be up as much. trust me, i've been there =)
i just got needles then attempted to do this...not comfortable!! haha this is awesome! im definitely trying it as soon as my arm stops being so numb!! ☺
If your arms get tired, try sitting in a recliner or laying on a bed & flipping your hair over the edge, then braiding it. You will end up with a little looser braid at the bottom of your head, which makes for a little bit fancier-looking style. Good luck!

I agree with what FabulousCutie01 says. This is an extremely easy, & elegant way to do your own hair at home in bewteen or instead of going to the salon/shop. I wear French/Dutch Braids all of the time, along with Chignons, Afro-Puffs, a big ol' "Angela Davis" Afro, French Rolls, Two- Strands Twists, Bantu Knots & when I want to wear it straightened-a Press & Curl. French Braids are one of those protective styles that can grow your hair & it adds variety to your "natural hairstyle repertoire".
I love French braids because I don't have to use any product in my hair to do it, or any heat appliances. It's a great way to style hair, while keeping it healthy :)
