  • Just think..back in the seventies and eighties, someone mentioning a wind-up radio or a solar-powered flashlight would have been using those words in a joke. But here they are today. I could see your umbrella a bit larger and lighting up hot dog stands set up outside the sports stadiums at night.

  • @Perktube1 wow, that;s an actual practical use!

  • @StupidInventions All of his inventions are practical, you just gotta learn to shove em up the ol' heave ho!

  • you know, most people would say your dumb because of some of these inventions, but honestly, you have to be pretty damn creative to think/make all of these things so your probobally a rocket scientist or something. (No joke)

  • @Stickmenmadness lol thanks! I'm actually in school, studying to be an Electrical Engineer.... but making these things is just so much fun!

  • and the you die...

  • @mertentang lmao

  • You have to plug it in. That's retarded. Cool though.

  • well, I real version would use battery powered lights, Ijust couldnt find any...

  • Wouldn't that shock you lol... You should make the videos replies to the previous episode...

  • no, its x-mas lights, they're made for use outdoors... hmm maybe i will

  • You better be careful or your going to start a new fashion trend.

  • ha! that would be funnY!

  • you are genious , no kidding hahah

  • lol, thanks! glad you liked the videos...

  • Make it portable and that is just sexy :L.

  • lol, one day, if i have the time...

  • If You Were Walking In The Rain At Night, Wouldn't The Light Bulbs Short Out?

  • no, theyre x-mas lights, theyre made to work outdoors...

  • The question is will it blend?

  • lol, wrong channel... :)

  • thanks

  • someones probably already asked, is their risk of electrocution haha!

  • yeah I get asked a lot, but basically since the lights are made from outdoor use, and since ideally this would be powered by a battery, theres very little chance of electrocution, and even if there was it wouldnt be that dangerous...(depending on the battery...)

  • they have the blade runner version on ThinkGeek! It's AWESOME!!

  • I love ThinkGeek! I got to check that out!

  • it may serve a double purpose, but it also makes you double vulnerable to lighting

    XD

  • lol, Benjamin Franklyn would be proud!

  • Can I ask you a question?

  • sure, go ahead!

  • That was the question :D

  • oy.... :)

  • I highly doubt i would want to go out at night while it's raining with an umbrella strapped with lights and extension cords going back to my house.. Probably just stick with a rain suit with a LED headband...

Nice try though.. perhaps if you strapped the lights to a parasol you could market this as a great piece of outdoor furniture.

  • well, ideally this would be battery powered LEDs, but I couldnt find any battery string lights....

I think they make these type of lights for those giant outdoor umbrellas, at least for the center pole...

  • isnt this a hazard? i mean like couldn't the lights shock you?!?!? That would light up your day lol

  • these lights are made for use outdoors, so they won't electrocute you in the rain... even if they could, the amount of electricity they use would barely sting you...

why is everyone so afraid of electrocution? its not that bad, :)

  • lol

  • lol, im not joking :)

  • I appreciate you replying! ;D

  • I always try to respond if someone has a question.

    :)

  • you should make it PORTABLE

  • i know.

Ideally this would be battery powered and portable...

  • They should really make a umbrella light, it's a "Good invention"!

  • thanks, glad you liked it!

  • Oh and also, nice figures.

How much did the large mario one cost you?

  • hahaha thanks... I just got a giant Toy Story alien, look for it in the background of future episodes...

I got it on ebay for around $30 i think, maybe more

  • in this prototype yes, but ideally it would be battery powered....

  • i was just kidding, but you can try making your own, all you need is an umbrella, xmas lights, and some duct tape

  • ummm is the lights waterrpoof and wil electrocute you?

  • they should be waterproof... although i dont have any volunteers to try it... :)

  • aww well thats sad

  • lol wanna try it out? :)

  • Wow. Simply amazing.

  • thanks!

  • if youd like to donate some id be happy to use it...

the Stupid Inventions budget is quite small.. :)

  • lol, exactly!

  • i used to have an umbrella whose handle was a flashlight!! haha my grandparents gave it to me

  • coool!

  • stupid idea

if u want this to work u need to overcome these 2 points

    1) the power supply

    2) how not to electrocute yourself

  • those two problems are fixed by one thing:

Battery powered lights, they make them, but its too early b4 xmas to see them in the stores.

these are made to be used outdoors so you wont electrocute yourself, and even if you did its just a battery so you couldnt get much of a shock.

  • This is not stupid this is pretty clever and looks like a fun thing to have.

  • thanks, glad you liked it!

  • dont electrocute your self

  • as long as i wear my rubber rain boots, i should be ok...

  • lol, carry some marshmallows in your pocket, so at least youll make fluff when u get zapped..

  • You can get electrocuted no?

  • -sigh-

I dont think so, but to be honest im not really willing to test it...

  • you must finish with "right", but that's fine. I think if it's a low voltage lamps and some battery between 5-9 V you'll get a nice lighting and no shocks :)

  • You know some of the stuff you make is stupid, but this is a pretty good idea, as long as there's like solar panels or something on it to keep them charged

  • you need light to power solar panels.

so that would kinda defeat the reason for this

  • well no they charge all day than at night they work, how do you think people who have solar panels get they're power at night

  • yeah but then ud have to leave it outside where it could be stolen....

Someone suggested making a big version of this for going to the beach, so i think for the beach version solar panels would make sense, itll charge during the day when u use it for shade and ull have light at night....

  • well thats why i named this channel Stupid Inventions, so i could just make whatever i want and not have to worry whether it was practical or not...

thats an interesting idea... but wouldnt it seem funny to attach solar panels to something meant to be used at night?

    maybe just rechargeable batteries...

  • lol it would be a good invetion if u put a lite under the umbrella instead of near the edges were ur gonna get electricited

  • lol, but x-mas lights are made to be used outdoors so i dont think theres such a risk of electrocution

  • i'm pretty sure i wouldn't enjoy walking around with a wire following me....lmao

  • ideally this would run on battery power, but i didnt have battery powered lights on hand...

  • Lol I was like wat your tenth subscriber and you havent changed a bit..OMG WAT YOUR A PARTNER!! Lol just noticed..Lol

  • lol, i hope by not changing you mean ive retained a constant amount of awesomeness?

yeah, i was accepted as a youtube partner last week...more Stupid Inventions to come!

  • LMAO i was not expecting it have lights on it lol but thats awesome !!!

  • lol, thanks!

what were you expecting then? :)

  • i was expecting some that nasa would come up with lmao then i seen light bulbs did i ever have a good laugh :D

  • hahaha u have to lower your expectations a bit when it comes to Stupid Inventions...we dont have the same budget that NASA does, lol

    glad you enjoyed it though!

  • that would work if u are sitting on the beach and it got dark and u were still at the beach. XP

  • that would be a great use for the invention!

I would probably need to make a much bigger umbrella though...

    Thanks for commenting!

  • who is spaming the comments?.

    are you convicting me?

    p.s i think you are!!

  • who doesnt?

  • oh, lol i thought you had some sort of mathematical equation!

  • yeea man you should chek out some of my vids one day!

    p.s you SHOULD! xx

  • please dont spam the comments

  • lol, i would love to know how you came up with "56%"

besides, just wear rubber rain boots and you should be ok... :)

  • i was promised a stupid invention. i didn't get one.

  • this wasnt stupid or it wasnt an invention?

  • it wasnt stupid. very practical. if its dark and raining one hand will have an umbrella and the other will have a flashlight. no hands left DX. with this, one hand, 2 functions.

  • Well im glad you liked the invention...

I guess whats stupid in this one is the actual prototype rather than the idea... since it needs to be plugged in with a cord because i couldn't find battery powered lights... :)

  • i bet stalkers can find ppl better with that lol

  • true, but then the person you would be stalking would see you a mile away...

  • hell yeah Ive been responded to 2wice

i kick ass and so does stupid inventions!!!

  • lol, we try to respond to everyone...

    thanks for watching and commenting!

    more Stupid Inventions to come!

  • hahaha thanks!

    more to come!

  • really? does it ever ruin your x-mas lights?

I dont think so, but ideally it would run on battery power...

  • lol it needs an outlet

  • ideally it would run on battery power, but i couldnt find battery powered lights...

  • thats the best one yet! cool!

p.s check out my videos for cool halo 3 gun sounds and cod4!!

    p.s Just do it :D

  • thanks!

  • 1 problem, electricity and water doesnt mix :3

  • these are made from x-mas lights that are made to be used outdoors... have u ever had a problem with your x-mas lights during a rainstorm?

  • hurrmm, we never use x-mas lights, just need to work out how to make that umbrella mobile :), battery pack?

  • lol me neither...

yeah exactly! a battery pack should do the trick!

  • it could go large! if there x-mas lights ill take the multi coloured

  • haha maybe!

  • you could hack up some of those cheap solar powered garden lamps and connect them to several LEDs and do something similar to this...

  • yeah, but a Solar Powered NIGHTtime umbrella would be pretty useless.... but funny!

Defiantly a Stupid Invention worthy idea!

  • love the ending!

  • hahaha thanks!

I always try to make an interesting ending..

  • That looked amazing!

  • lol thanks!

im actually using it as part of the new intro im making...

  • I wonder if anyone would get mugged if you are using this...lol. Nice idea though, it's a lot better than using a flashlight.

  • ha!

i was actually considering making a joke about that in the video!

  • those tap lights are battery powered

"put them in your closet, in a stairwell, you can even use them for under the hood!"

    19.99 +S&H

  • sounds good!

  • pffft id buy it xD

  • thanks!

    only $19.95!

    just kidding! :)

  • ideally you would use battery powered lights, i just couldnt find any, and Stupid Inventions runs on a very small budget, lol

  • nevermind about the batteries

other than that its a money maker (hint hint) lol

  • lol, coming to a store near you! (not)

  • that is SOOOO COOOL

but dont you have to plug it in. and also

it might be dangerous if it gets wet.

    BUT I REALLY WANT ONE!!!

I'LL BUY IT OFF YOU? lol

  • hahaha, its not for sale... yet!

these lights are made for outdoors, so i dont think theyre dangerous when wet...

oh and i wanted to use battery powered lights, but i couldn't find any...

  • i love this !! it's pure awesomeness!!!

  • sweet, two "pure" comments in a row!

    thanks!

  • Pure genius.

  • lol, thanks!

  • its 2% lightning resistant

  • hey, 2% is better than 0%!

  • Does it come with a super duper extra long extension cord? That would be awesome.. Tripping people up as you walk in the rain.. XD

  • hahahahaha

Theres an episode of Invader Zim like that....

but no, ideally you would be using battery powered lights i just couldnt find any in mid-August

  • Please try making a stupidinvention!!! all of yours so far are epic!!!!!

  • thanks! i already filmed the next one and its one of the best we've ever made!

should be online later this week

  • just when I thought the umbrella was a old thing of the past.. This video came out! XD great vid BTW

  • lol, the new modern umbrella!

    thanks for watching!

  • lmao xD well its pretty stupid but smart ^_~

  • that pretty much describes all of the Stupid Inventions :)

  • OMG!!!! I totally thought about attaching xmas lights to my umbrella when i was a kid lol

  • lol me too!

thats part of the reason why i did it, just to make my 5 year old self happy...

  • Maybe you should put the light at the top of the umberella shaft, that way water won't even be anywhere near the lights. Also, if you added a reflective surface to the inside of the umberella, almost like a photograph light reflector, it would take much less power to illuminate the ground around you.

  • Thank you for the insightful comment!

I think since these light are made to be used outdoors, that there's much risk of being electrocuted and so it shouldn't matter where you put them.

The reflector is a very interesting idea, although it would have to be able to collapse when you close the umbrella...

    Thanks for commenting!

  • Well, for the collapsable problem, I was thinking of inlaying LED's into the upper part of the shaft, which would be a challenge for any metalworker, but might look really cool in the end.

  • that would actually be very cool, but unfortunately budget and time constraints don't allow me to do that... also my lack of talent, :)

    Thanks for watching and commenting!

  • Exactly what I need!!! :D

  • lol, you can borrow it anytime!

  • YES!! THATS WHAT IM TALKIN ABOUT!!

    THe nighttime umbrella!!

  • lol, thats actually probably a better name...

  • Lolz not really, since there will obviously be some morons who use the lights in the day XD

  • lol, very true!

  • The first thing hat popped into my mind was "omg...with that cord you'd fry". Lol its a good decoration idea though.

  • lol, how funny would that be as a newspaper headline...

"Stupid Inventor Dies From Accidental Electrocution"

  • Wouldn't that be somewhat dangerous in an lighting storm with a power cord protruding from the bottom?

  • ideally this would run on battery power...

and the lights are made for outdoor use, so i wouldn't worry too much about them, besides theyre being protected by the umbrella...

Why is everyone always so worried about being electrocuted?? ive been electrocuted, its not so bad... :)

  • still awesome stupid, still awesome

  • thanks! lol

    awesomely stupid!

  • Brilliant.

  • Mary Poppins will love these. This opens up a world of possibilities for her. She can now go clubbing and street racing without having to bring a separate flash light.

  • hahahahah! im sure marry poppins would defiantly approve!

  • ha! thanks...

its a "bright" idea! (i know that joke is too corny, which is why i edited it out of the video)

  • there is a fucking power cord... and i don't think its stupid.. you jsut got to make it moble

  • i have a feeling ill be getting a million comments pointing that out...

They DO make string lights that run on battery power, but the stores only sell them during x-mas time, so i couldnt find any....

but the concept remains the same...
