Most of the schools here were only 1-9 or 1-8th, my grandmother taught my dad but most of the schools were fed into one county school where they finished last 3 or 4yrs as my dad and mom did. All the kids were taught in one room in most schools and you brought your lunch in a bag.
Great story, but why does a family with a such well appointed house send their a smart 'little madam' of a daughter to one room shack of a school anyways ?

@soulwam: In the old days, everyone went to the same one-room schoolhouse regardless of their income or age.
