Yes, I did know that about SRV and his wife, (not many people do). Him and his wife were about to move to NZ to live, 2 weeks before he died. Have you ever seen the video of SRV playing with Midge Marsden in an advert for 'Europa Fuels'? A great KIWI classic. Search: Midge Marsden and you'll see them, chur bro ;)
@misterdeadhead He hated Amazing Grace and they were going to play that at his funeral. So I walked up to the funeral director and told her there was no way in hell they were playing that and handed her an SRV CD and told her to play Pride and Joy. And she sure did!
@7th75thCallaghan Not to brag, but I can play parts of both songs on the guitar, and I can say there are little to no similarities, except that both songs are fuckin beautiful.
@petie58 Ah, thanks that's interesting to know. I really prefer his 'improv' on little wing over this though. I'm sure he had already jammed little wing before writing Lenny at least.
For those of you who don't know about Stevie Ray Vaughn, he walked out on stage with his guitar during a Jazz festival in New York with Mick Jagger present watching and the crowd of blacks starting yelling boo because they never seen a white blues man, but when Stevie started to play, he blew their asses away and Mick Jagger helped him gain stardom. How's that for some history:)
Then maybe your basing your top 3 in the world players on whether you can imitate them or not. I think it's all relative. How can anyone say who the best is or who is in the top 10 or top 100. It's a matter of opinion in my opinion. Steve Vai is every bit as good or better then SRV but again, that's just my opinion which I am entitled to just like everyone else. I will agree that SRV is not like anyone else.
this song changed my life..its y i play guitar so much. It has become my life my passion. This one needs no words at all..stevie my friend thank you. You have helped me on so many days when i was down..your blues are my pure bliss.
SRV was the first artists pops every got me into and outta all the music i listen to now i always go back to SRV at some point... It kills me knowing that god took one of the Earth's greatest musicians for his own pleasure. When I die I want little wing by SRV cover played at my funeral.
Buddy Guy has been called the bridge between the blues and rock and roll. He is one of the historic links between Chicago electric blues pioneers Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf and popular musicians like Eric Clapton, Jeff Beck, Jimi Hendrix and Jimmy Page as well as later revivalists like Stevie Ray Vaughan. Vaughan stated that, "Without Buddy Guy, there would be no Stevie Ray Vaughan."
In case anyone was wondering what the odd undulation was just behind the bridge its the mark left by a floyd type bridge being removed. Dave Gilmour had a guitar with that same mark and his guitar tech filled it in with some mystery material. thats why it has those wierd bumps. just a bit of trivia for you. you can see it from 0:19 to 0:29
