I've listened to this song what seems like a thousand times. It is very beautiful and I love Jane's voice. At first I thought it was a sad song but after listening so many times I came to think of it as a song of someone's wedding day. Was this song about someone's wedding day?
WOW!!!! Thankyou Dan, this is such a special and magical video.
I am sure Jane would be proud.
It really touched me, and for us non NZ's, it gave the whole experience of the place, the time, the atmosphere inside and out and of course, the Wonderful Jane. My Hubbie and I experienced one of her Salons, also last year, over here in Australia in a Church, which was magical as well, and indeed a very special evening!!!!
Please don't taint this exquisite song with all of your ego needs. It speaks to our souls and the great mystery we deal with daily. Please let love cover our differences and speak to the highest common denominator, whatever you perceive that to be.. Thank you.
I regret starting this whole exchange. It never would have started if your video had been clear from the beginning about being 'live.' Of course, your video doesn't need to suit 'my' needs. My point was that the video is not clear to the average viewer. If you didn't intend to communicate to viewers, why post it on youtube at all? Posting it implies an attempt to communicate. All I said was that the attempt was not altogether successful. I'm sorry if I offended you. That wasn't my intent.
I love the way this video was done. I felt alone walking through the night, then was drawn right into an intimate warm environment and delighted by the music. Thankyou for sharing this.
@davehshs yes it is a wonderful song. and yes it is live. did you watch till the end? It would have been quite some feat to syncronise Jane's lips moving to a cd soundtrack! lol.
@danadamsnz No, I didn't watch it to the end until after you posted your response. I just assumed after two minutes that it was a recording and that all we were going to see were night skys and jets. The last part is wonderful. Wish the whole video had shown her.
@davehshs Well, Dave, I can only say that I edited the video having spent a little time with Jane Siberry, and the editing reflects that. For example, over dinner we discussed the role of the particular tree (pictured in the video) in Aboriginal Australian mythology. Jane clearly appreciates context, and realises that performing atop a hill in Wellington, New Zealand is unlike performing anywhere else on the globe. I can only imagine by your comments (not presuming to know you) that you do not.
@danadamsnz I'm glad to hear that you had a noble purpose in the barely visible imagery at the start. But visual art that requires a verbal explanation to make any sense has failed. Your private meaning does not communicate itself at all. Now that you've told me, I appreciate the meaning that performing atop that hill had for Jane. But please don't expect me or 99.9% of Jane's fans to realize this simply from viewing your video.
@davehshs surely it begs the question - why should my video suit your needs anyway? You seem to assume the mantle of a critic, and yet all you are to me is a Youtube login name and someone who wasn't even prepared to watch an entire video before whining (loudly, in capitals, and absolutely mistakenly) that the performance was not live. I will now assume the role of your critic, and suggest that the less you shoot your mouth off like that, the fewer times you'll find your own foot in the way.
p.s. YOYO: in the meantime follow the trail of Video Responses as an appetiser. They are three songs of mine that I played to open for Jane's first show in a five night season. We all had an incredibly uplifting and inspiring week. I filmed every night. And I was delighted to also open for Jane's final night... So there's plenty of footage to come as I chip away at the editing.
Oh, thank you for this upload... Jane is an amazing, warm spirit and I love her live performances; connecting people together through her beautiful music... ANY MORE OF THE GIG??? Cheers YOYO

I was hoping to see a live performance of this wonderful song by Jane. WHY do you call this video a LIVE performance????

@davehshs well, this is not the studio version I've always heard on the album, sounds live to me

Beautiful video and recording of Jane.
Seeing the Truby King name plate gave me shivers. She did babies and infants a great disservice.
