  • Starting to get scared. I have one last test and then I will donate to my friend. We matched. Can someone tell me how long is the recovery.

  • @quelita1971 It's not bad. You have absolutely no energy for a while, and then you slowly get more and more energy. You will get up and walk a little either the night of or the next day. You'll be EXTREMELY bloated. Be sure to take sweat /yoga pants. I took jeans and THAT was a mistake. You'll do a lot of sleeping / chilling in bed. It's not too painful (well, it is if you have an unknown morphine allergy....that hurt), just more uncomfortable really. I was scared as well.

  • i just got a new kidney from my mom im 15, I THANK HER<3

  • @wudamess: I donated to my father almost 4 years ago. He is ungrateful. Never called a year later on the anniversary. We don't speak now. It's ok though. Hope you're doing well.

  • just got my second one from my dad! Wish they could have filmed mine!

  • had a kidney transplant 11 yrs ago and doing great had it done at cincinnati

  • might be giving one to my step dad, hoping so :)

  • i got a kidney transplant when i was one and my mom gave me 1

  • i need to sell o+ kidney

  • how much

  • I would like to know how much does it take to endure this Op..and how much does it cost? I would like to donate my kidney to my brother who is another country..can anyone tell me how does it work.

  • @kameelmackle If it's in the US, the donor does not have to pay any sort of medical expenses. Travel expenses are not covered by the recipient's insurance, but there are programs out there that help offset the cost of travel, lodging, and other expenses that may occur during donation. You won't have any medical charges, including evaluation and post surgery appointment for about a year, maybe more.

  • Wow, do u all no how much it co$t to give up kidney$,

  • @9SuperMonkeyBall0 It doesnt cost the donor anything!

  • i m 22 n my weight is 57....... wanna donate my kidney to my brother........ can i donate with this weight?

  • @faizaney it doesnt depend on your weight unless you're severely under- or overweight. it depends on your kidney function ('clearance') which can be determined by a lab test. in general, if you're healthy you should be able to donate. but there's another question, which is whether you and your brother are compatible, which carries too far to discuss here. talk to your doctor if you're serious

  • I donated my left kidney to my Papa last June 29, 2010, I just hope he takes care of his "added life" opportunity and not take it for granted the "half of a life" that was given to him.The recipients are not really 100 % back to healthy life, for one, they now have a low immune system and needed to take these two medicines for the rest of their lives. With the way I see now how the Laparoscopic surgery is being done, I can't help but admire the doctor surgeon and all in the transplant team, txs

  • i need a kidney transplant...blood type o+

  • Im donating tomorrow, so of course I'm sitting here watching surgery's!...lol!...good luck to us!...just a little anxious!

  • Hi, im 23yrs old and have Kidney failure due to Lupus. I`ve been on dialysis for 6 yrs and will be recieving my brothers kidney in a few months! Can anyone tell me what i can expect, as i have no idea what recovery is like after surgery...thank you!

  • i received my 2nd kidney Tx from my older sis 10 yrs ago, and i keep her informed of every test/doc visits results. it still working perfectly today.

  • Greetings from Italy!!!

  • can you die from chronic kidney disease?

  • @xXLoVeRandHaTeRXx Yes you can, once your Kidney's fail and you don't get treated with either a transplant or Dialisis your body loses the ability to get rid of waste/toxins in your body.

  • @Lighthouse I don't know what age they are favoring, but I do truly believe it has to do with quality of life...how "one" truly measures the quality of a perspective recipient's life is beyond me...I truly believe that the quality of a person is not measured in years, but what the person is able to commit with their life's potential. The quality of a 51 yr old can be as productive as compared to let's say to a 20 yr old...

  • My brother gave me his kidney about 4 months ago. we were a perfect match i thank him for that. i was on dialysis for 8 months and now my life is a lot better. thanks to him.

  • hi all , good luck.

  • @eddiefogerty im recipient from my mother the kidney was given to me....Hope your surgery was a success and that you and the recipient are doing awesome! kudos for your choice to donate!

  • my mum is on dialysis. if everything goes on well, my sister will be donating her kidney in some months. really worried...

  • @AmberPott3r

    good luck and best wishes

  • When they transplant a kidney, I read that they rarely remove the diseased kidneys, so that they place it near your abdomen. My question is this: do they make the incision on your front or back to put the kidney in?

  • @AlanSessler They make a large incision in the front on the right or left side of the abdomen, just below the waistline, near the hipbone area...it looks like a sideways smile. My incision is about 12 inches long. They do not remove the "native" kidneys unless they have to. I have three kidneys, two do not work.

  • what is the downside of a transplant?cause i may need a transplant

  • You'll be on medication for the rest of your life. And you'll have restrictions for some kinds of food.

  • and if you don't to it then you are gonna be on dialysis and meds for the rest of your life as well so it is kinda the same but you can travel more freely if you get a transplant. I know this because i've been dialysis for almost a year and i have to work around on dialysis if i travel...plan ahead, find a dialysis center where i am planning to go and all that

  • @XLMNT76 I just celabrated my 15th year of a double transplant(kidney/pancreas) and and I do not bekieve their are any downsides...I do believe their is a downside in not getting the transplant...a very short life on dialysis! Good Luck!
