@anonazero So you're saying that state/church separation isn't a good idea? Is religion good or not? It seems that the best reason we should keep them separate is that government is about real things, and religion is not. It's a waste and corruption of government to get involved in religion.
If it was Christians who started public education, then it was Christians who started an organized way for the masses to learn about the harm caused by Christianity. Even if they didn't mean to, they did.
if they are going to teach a bible class, and they wont listen to reason. Then they should have to ( under the first amendment ) have classes about the torah, the koran, bhagavad gita, or teach them the dhamma aswell.
@spiderpig85 what about our money funding propaganda? you don't say anything about the real issues. all of the money is being waisted and thrown away. money is useless if you spend it on something that is going to negatively affect you. christianity won;t hurt anyone. your crazy man, seriously, you don't make sense.
God does not care about you if you are a sinner. So at the end of the world, you will die in a way never thought possible, and you will go to hell for all eternity. Is THAT mass murder? Yes it is, but he is killing the sin. And the people ARE the sin because they have been given their WHOLE entire lives to change their ways. It's your fault for not changing.
Enjoy the following comments. It's never too late to change. But you could die any time.
@UniQuEclectics how is that a response to what I SAID? what? do you even know where you are right now? "god"'s laws are NOT obeyed very frequently at all... well, the ones in the bible that are choice based (not counting laws of physics, etc, that he supposedly also "made"). china + india = 2/3 of the world = mostly nonchristians. Therefore, they do not likely follow Yahweh's laws as stated in the bible... nor do most "believers" that I know and observe on a daily basis.
If God chooses to end the world now, he will take all his believers with him, and of course they must be completely sin free, and if they do have sins, they will have to take punishment, but the punishment is being unable to SEE God while in Heaven for a certain time period. And not seeing God in heaven is the worst punishment ever.
So back to this! If the world DID end right now, God would commit MASS MURDER to all of us through hurricanes/tornadoes/and amazing things. He simply does not care
God does not hate PEOPLE just as Adolf Hitler did. So please get your facts straight before you leave your comments. God hates SIN! Not PEOPLE. So he did not kill the people, he killed their sins. Is it mass murder to kill a sin? I don't think so. And you could say the people died along with their sins. That is correct. So it is mass murder right? Well lets pretend it was JUST FOR YOU =D Would you rather he just END THE WORLD! And kill everyone int he worst possible way? And send them to hell?
"So why was God unable to cope with the nature of the creation he created, while knowing the future?"
This is the LAST time that I ever reply to your comments, for I have an answer to everything you ask, but I will not continue to waste my time with someone who is unwilling to change, and yet, continually asks stupid questions.
God IS able to cope with the nature. He simply wanted to CHANGE the nature of his creation. So that when Jesus came down, it would be easier for him to change people.
And Thomas is one of the 12 Disciples of Jesus. I bring you that quote because Thomas said that he would not believe that Jesus is God unless he saw him with his OWN eyes. That is what you are doing. You are JUST like Thomas. You say you wont believe in God unless you have proof or evidence. Well Jesus (who is God) came to Thomas and said to him: Because you have seen me, you have believed. Blessed are those who have NOT seen me. And yet, believe.
Hey.. I don't know you, but God does. And God is speaking through me. And if you'll have to end this, then that's the Devil talking. You DO need forgiveness. And so does everyone. You and I and everyone in this entire world commits sins everyday. Just looking at a women with lust is committing adultery, which goes against God's Ten Commandments. Can you tell me that you lived your whole life without ever looking at a women with lust? Or just saying, "dam she's hot, I'd love to tap that"
EVERYONE before Jesus Christ is in heaven right now. Why? Because Jesus forgave them when he was on the cross. "Forgive them, for they know not what they do" He forgave everyone before him, and now he gives all of us here today a chance to be forgiven. All you have to do is simply ask for forgiveness, and you will be forgiven. Don't let these people tell you that the bible says nothing. They are working for the Devil. The devil wants as many people as possible not to believe in God. READ BELOW
A. You assume that those people, and indeed me too, need forgiveness for something. I don't.
B. I've never heard anyone claim that Jesus was referring to all humans who ever lived up to that point, when he cried out to God saying "Father forgive them for they know not what they do." I was always taught that he was talking about the Romans and the Jews because of what they were doing to him at the time.
C. If the devil wants us to not believe in God, is that why you can't find God?
A) Yes, you and everyone who does not follow the Ten Commandments needs forgiveness. EVERYONE in this entire world needs forgiveness, and that includes me. No one is perfect except for God. We are always committing sins, and God hates sin. He does not hate YOU! He hates sin. So when he punishes people for being wicked, he is punishing them for their sins, not because of them personally. Before Jesus Christ was born, there was no such thing as forgiveness. (READ B & C) for more
B) When Jesus died on the cross he forgave EVERYONE (who believed in God, and believed that Jesus is coming)
You said, "if they're in heaven, how could they do such wicked things and be rewarded in the end" Well the ones who believed in God, and believed Jesus was coming were the only ones who went up to heaven. When Jesus was in the tomb for 3 days, he went to hell and took all the people who believed this and took them to heaven. Everyone does wicked things, including me. FORGIVENESS = NoSin
C) "If the devil wants us to not believe in God, is that why you can't find God?"
The answer: Yes, that is exactly the reason. READ THE FOLLOWING: Thomas' response to resurrected Jesus Then He said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
You call the flood with Noah's Ark and everything a mass murder? God took MALE and FEMALE of every species and put it on Noah's Ark so that they could reproduce as better species. Us humans would be killing each other right now, and there would be NO United States or any country for that matter that serves freedom if it wasn't for the flood. It was a NEW beginning.
P.S. All the people that "God Murdered" are in heaven right now thanks to Jesus
If they're in heaven, how can they do such wicked things and be rewarded in the end? It's a contradictory message: Execution for wicked acts, and then...instantly afterwards...eternal reward. Why?? There is no sense in that, and you can't make sense of it.
He says: Bible is pointless because all you do is learn about who begot who. The reason the bible says who begot who and how many years they lived is to show us how many years have passed. And within this who begot who, there is also a message.
It's a really long message then! I believe that the truth can be said quickly and easily, if you want to tell the truth. A lie usually takes more fluffing up.
whyuahater3 - Thanks! I'd sure like to point you to some online Christians who hate me. Someone even votebotted almost all of my videos recently. That's over 400 videos. Grrr!
Please ask your Christian friends who don't like us so much to consider "judge not..." and something I was told in church: "Whatsoever you do to the least of my brothers, that you do unto me." It's a little extreme, but the point is clear enough.
Jerro, they have to pay taxes like everyone else. The large groups get money by telling their visitors to "give money back to God". I just see it as a donation plate.
The building is typical design for a Church. "private parking" Like... WTF? You know, that's why most church groups die off. Either the members don't do $% to bring new people. They get tight #$ed and act supperior to others, or they just don't act inviting to anybody that visits anyway. I agree with you to. If one belief is to be taught about in a non-religious school, other's should get the same respect because we are supposed to be an equal country, not vice versa.
I will say that the bible has great literary qualities as most fiction books do, it carries with some of the stories about warnings against greed such as Cain and Abel, but these stories are found mainly in the old testament.
Just don't forget that atheism in and of itself is a belief too, and that most atheists fall into the same circular logic and mind traps that they accuse religious people of doing
Sclz0 - I disagree. The Bible is an example of the worst writing propped up by politicians and tyrants. It spells out how greed is very important to religion, starting with God's greed. It's one badly told story about injustice being great after another. Not good writing at all.
So how is Atheism a belief? Please explain. What circular logic and mind traps do we fall into, and how exactly? Did we promise something we can't deliver? lol
Circular logic and false claims are two separate things.
Atheism is the belief that there is no god, and that there is nothing. Which hardly makes any sense either, the question still stands, how was the universe created.
The big bang is a theory on how the universe started, but what put all the energy there. It couldn't have "always existed" because then the universe could have always existed and the theory runs into itself.
Atheists should examine what they think and read Bertrand Russel
Terrible argument. Shocking in fact. Atheism is the lack of belief actually, while one may believe in God, Allah, or hundreds of other Gods, Atheists just say no to all of them. You're an atheist in respect to Thor I'd bet.
And read more on the big bang, it gives theories (Scientific theories, please make the distinction) as to how it got there.
It's the belief or opinion, it's really the same thing
Belief (n.) - something believed; an opinion or conviction
That there is no supreme being. None, and never was.
First we establish what you're saying there isn't. A supreme being could be almost anything, a giant orb of energy could be a supreme being, so if you're talking about the current "gods" that use 'divine intervention' then you're right, they don't exist.
But claiming that there is no supreme being, is a belief.
Good points... I guess the only way I can explain it for myself is that I'm a 99% atheist... I'm pretty sure there is no supreme being... But theres that small chance that I have to allow in case there is.
And for a big ball of energy? Plenty of them around the place, lol, trillions in fact.
to say that there is no God in the way people perceive that there is, is easy. To say that there is nothing, is giving an answer to an answer to a question with only theories on either side.
In other words, you can't say definitively either way, so what's wrong with people saying "I don't know"? Is it so wrong to admit that?
Atheism is not simply the belief that there is no god. Atheism is the the belief in only that which can be proven with evidence, or can be witnessed through experimentation. The truth is, NOTHING in this universe requires a god, and there is nothing wrong with that. You can explain everything based on a few key theories such as the big bang theory, abiogenesis, evolution, and then genetics, all help explain how we have come to be. All of them do not require magic as the answer.
Atheism is not the belief that there is no god. Atheism is LACK of belief in a god. This means that one rejects the claim "there is a god" because there is not sufficient evidence to prove this claim.
In a practical sense that means that one "knows" there is no god based on the evidence that we have. In an "absolute" manner of thinking what we can say is "we don't know". Neither an atheist nor a theist.
This may have been what you were getting at and if that's the case I'm sorry.
Based on a lack of evidence, I believe that there is no god. I hate it when arguments happen over trivialities, such as: is atheism a lack of a belief, a belief or a disbelief. In reality, they are all the same thing. I am an atheist. I believe that there is no god.
Webster's New Dictionary 2002:
atheism (n.) [<Gr a-,without + theos, god]
The BELIEF that there is no god.
We should not argue points such as these, as it makes us appear to be stupid.
Dictionaries have said a lot of bizarre and disagreeable things about us over the years. They've added some new definitions too, so I think it'll evolve into something more logically worded.
I do enjoy this conversation with Christians who are new to this debate. Every bit of deep deductive reasoning and logical consideration involved in figuring out our label is just exactly what Christians need. Unfortunately they're not challenged to think in this area using logic. Church is one-way.
Nice video and interesting idea. I think that trying to disprove God through Bible criticism is less effective than citing the verses that show God to be a pretty evil bugger unworthy of worship as a loving god.
Although many will claim that the laws of the OT are no-longer in effect, they can't deny the verses desribing how God and his followers killed, raped and enslaved their way through the world. Simply asking if they should cut the throat of a son on request from God is a good one.
Religions vary in their degree of idiocy, but I reject them all. For most people, religion is nothing more than a substitute for a malfunctioning brain.
The bible would get a rating of "R" by the movie industry.Well maybe even X if they could show gods dick in Mary. Which to me is technically rape. Yet it can be read to a 2 year old. So why not just read the good parts of Penthouse Forum? LOL Peace!
Gen 6:11 CLEARLY states why it was flooded just like its CLEAR you havent read the whole bible, just like to sound smart huh? your nothin special u just like the rest
ok so wow christians taught you (isa 2:22) why trust in man who is but a breath of nostrils? (jer 17:5) cursed is the one who trusts in man READ IT YOURSELF there's a reason for everything that happened in that book slick and i KNOW you haven't read it or you would know
rjcjr27 - Interesting. Many Christians have told me to read that book over the years. It used to be a school textbook I had to study in class. I'm always fascinated at how much Christians want everyone to read that book, but don't care about how it's so irrelevent today. They also often refuse to explain any single passage in that book. They usually say not to take it literally. Mostly they avoid the issues I raise, just like this.
i avoid nothing. if i don't know, i say i don't know. i have read the bible several times and i study it for fun there are still somethings i dont understand but i don't question the most high (ecc 11:5) just because you study out of something doesn't mean you've read it cover to cover try doing it on your own instead of being forced that's probably y u are the way u are now cuz you were forced. you accept it in love. Love doesn't demand, force or insist it gives and it returns
rjcjr27 - Funny, when I didn't have to believe it or love it, it said the same thing. I think it's all about what YOU want in a book, and what YOU want in a god. I don't want a god to exist, because it's always an evil god that we're told about. But you can ignore so much evil and love him anyway. That's really bizarre.
So you're trying to recruit teenagers to Bible studies to try and trap the teacher with questions you believe they can not answer. First of all, people continuously tried to trap Jesus, to no avail with the same methods you are. To answer your question:
"The wickedness of man was great in the earth and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was ONLY evil CONTINUOUSLY" Gen 6:6 KJV.
They were not just a little "wicked" as you have said. Does not God have a right to punish evildoers?
rbright79 - Where do you see or hear the words "recruit" or "trap" in this video? We don't need to recruit anyone to do this sort of thing. People naturally rise to the challenge presented by the insanity of religion, and tend to ask questions on their own.
Jesus screwed up quite a lot, if you read the story. He got himself killed for religious reasons, and acted like he wanted to die the whole time. He also acted like he wanted to be a giant victim, which no one should respect. God IS evil.
KenMacMillan Obviously he belived he could be a man-god on Earth, so when he entered that mindset, he stopped being an Atheist. I never said all Atheists are good people, but we don't get involved in making ourselves gods.
KenMacMillan - I and many other Atheists understand that Stalin's religion was Stalinism and Communism was his tool. He helped defeat Hitler, but still tried to make himself into a man-god on Earth, which Atheists don't do. Pol Pot too. Religion takes many different forms.
darkvadernerdboy - you are obviously an idiot. If you want to believe in your fairy tale go ahead. We don't care. What we don't like is our tax dollars being spent to promote your fairy tale beliefs. It is that simple. Do not use my tax dollars for this crap.
It isn't a Christian's job to answer your questions, and if they aren't answered to your satisfaction, then you deem it false. There have been many people who set out to prove the Bible wrong and came to the other conclusion. The Koran, WRONG! Mormons, WRONG! Jesus Christ is Lord. It's your right not to believe and I respect that. Looking at the movies you watch I'm surprised you can put a coherent sentence together.
"Actually God has already proved himself through his creation (Psalm 19, Romans 1). So you have no excuse whatsoever." Why are you quoting the bible? Quoting a book of primitive myths doesn't support your claims any more than quoting the Quran, Book of Mormon, etc.
We were not "created."
For the sake of argument, if I concede that we were "created," which god created us? What evidence do you have?
We already know that the Psalms are bullshit. Psalm 14:1 proves it.
Plus if a god was proven to exist, wouldn't there be fewer different religions in the world? Obviously said "proof" is weak at best. Nice try, for an all-powerful god. lol
i can tell u something, no one can ever proove god, if all we know is nature, and god is supposedly outside of nature, u can never proove it, not even with the ludacris bible
ShadowUmbreon23 - Good point. That's a good reason to let religion die out. If God was a secular business proposition, it would've gone by the wayside long ago, with things like Lawn Darts and the Edsel.
I'm glad I don't live in the Bible Belt. Here in New Hampshire, the people may be conservative, but they're more libertarian than authoritarian. We also had the sense to go blue.
I wish Noah hadn't taken along 2 komodo dragons. They look like they should have gone extinct with the dinosaurs. BTW what did the carnivores eat on the ark?
i can just as easily point out that charles darwins manifest destinies are a bad influence as well. Worry about your own beliefs problems then get back to the theists. I'm still waiting forat least one american atheist to recognize the fact that atheists killed millions of people during the 20th century.
Muslim - Please tell us how Darwin's "manifest destinies" are a bad influence. Where do you get that?? This video isn't about the value of beliefs so much as the value of education. Please cite your wild claim about Atheists killing people. That's really rude and unnecessary, but back it up, if you can.
while i think that an elective class that looks objectively at the bible would not necessarily be against the constitution, i think problems will arise with how it is taught. will the teachers maintaining their objectivity? they will most likely be christians themselves with their own views.
religion has many historical, political and philosophical implications which are important, but a comparative religion class would be much more valuable than one that just looks at the bible.
Before these classes ever got started, they were enabled by a state "law respecting an establishment of religion." House Bill 1287 is the Bible Classes in Public Schools Act, and it's word for word forbidden by the Establishment Clause of the Federal Constitution. So the classes are already a violation of the US Constitution. For this and other reasons, I don't think it can be taught objectively. That's way too much to ask from obvious Bible-pushers.
And a side-note. I think the Bible is one of the most historically significant books in the Western World, if not the entire world. It definitely deserves study whether or not you believe in it. It's also rather entertaining with plenty of violence and comedy. But it definitely shouldn't be taught in schools. I think the closest thing that could be taught is some kind of "World Religions" course that covers all of the major religions in a historical and anthropological context.
The Bible doesn't even mention the western world. What's significant to the western world about the Bible is how it's been forced on people who had other religions first. Every word in it simply doesn't pertain to anything in the history of the western world. People try to confuse those two aspects of the book. The cover and the contents. Two different things.
And those prior religions weren't also "forced"? What about these peoples' language? Culture? Social status? Geography? And so on. Anyway, as I said, the Bible is incredibly significant to the Western World in much the same way Buddhist scripture is for Chinese history. Religions spread and influence other civilizations regardless of where they were originally born. The Western World as we know it today is inextricably linked to the introduction of the Bible. For better or for worse? Who knows?
So what part of the Bible is relevant to the history of the western world? Show me in the Bible where it even mentions that. You're implying that there must be several entire chapters in there all about New York City alone! You're promoting someone else's book.
How can you pride yourself over logic and reasoning and simultaneously be incapable of understanding the simplest of analogical arguments? Maybe I was being unfair in assuming you knew anything about China/Buddhism. Here, I'll try again.
Plato's Republic is relevant to the history of The United States. Surely you know this. Being an ancient text, does it mention ANYTHING about our country? No. Relevant? Very. Now extend this to how the Bible is relevant to the Western World. See where I'm going?
Why encourage students to give their teachers a hard time? You shouldn't be preaching atheism, you should focus on upholding the separation of church and state. I don't think it's in your best interest to associate your movement to get religion out of schools with atheism. It's enough to simply point out how its defying the first amendment.
phlegmuffin - This is part of state/church separation activism. We can't stop the classes from happening, so why fight it or avoid it, like it's not a problem? They're poisoning kids with this, and we have free speech too. No self-respecting Atheist accepts government religion, or the idea that you have to help pay for it. Pointing out something is hardly activism by itself. You have to actually do something too.
Well yes, of course. By all means, let's do something about it. But this is the problem I have:
"Become a student and give the teacher our toughest questions about the Bible"... so on...
This is unnecessary. The inaccuracies of the Bible are beside the point! Unfortunately, many Americans have very bad associations with Atheism. So lets keep atheism/theism out of the church and state debate and focus on the constitution. That's the issue.
I'm fine with activism, but why throw in your beliefs?
We're part of society, that's why we get involved. It's necessary for a successful student to ask about the subject matter of their classes. There's nothing wrong with asking questions. It's not a disruption and it's not disrespectful. The Constitution doesn't say "state-church separation" so why ignore the real present aspects of this? Atheism/religion ARE relevant. Thowing in beliefs is what you do when you interract. Don't live a silent existence.
You're framing the questions all wrong. Nothing necessitates that the answer to the question of what makes evolution work is a "who" rather than a "what." You are clearly not interested in educating yourself or doing anything but validating the beliefs you already wanted to hold. It is a waste of time to argue with you.
Anyone questioning the Holy Dribble in Dribble class is going to be thrown into the pit of fire where there will be much gnashing of teeth (she said jokingly)....because as we all know, you're not allowed to confront anything in that book. I mean, come on....if you can't eat from the tree of knowledge than what chance do you have? :0p Great vid, as usual, aajoey!!!
Nobody is insulting you, we're correcting your comments which are so offensively dumb as to necessitate correction. like asserting that objective reality (science) is bullshit and that a glorified fairytale (the bible) is the truth with no evidence or argumentation.
If you call observation of cosmic background radiation, an expanding universe the isotpotry (sp) of the cosmos and recreations of the event and quantum (sp) science guesses, sure. But by your standard Gravity is a guess.
We know exctly where the elements "came from" (rather the natural process by which they foremed) and can reproduce it in a lab (in fact we have actually created elements ourselves). First cause was at the quantum level. Seriously, read about science before you make yourself look like an idiot.
I am sure you have created elements yourselves. That is - if you have all the elements to create something and the intelligence to know how to create it. You are reduced to insult my intelligence because you don't want to admit that your little theory has cracks. You can't even admit that these theories don't even claim to have all the answers - yet you are portraying that they do. Don't believe everything that you read just because it sounds good.
If you had ever read any sort of scientific document relating to the big bang, you would know that there are ways to prove it wrong. You haven't pointed any out, because the theroy has held up under review. All of your arguments can be dealt with if you take a weekend and learn what you're talking about. I pointed out the creation of elements because it shows that we can understand the natural process which causes them to form in labs and in nature (which has also been observed).
You have taste buds to dectect things that you shouldn't be eating, fingerprints to allow more feeling and easier grip, we feel emotion because we are political animals, and it helps us adapt and interact to our benefit. Statistics are not biology cosmosogy chemestry or geology. Also the statistical argument is not valid.
You need to look at the probability of our universe coming into perfect order by accident. It is insane to me that you believe this all came about by chance. What are the chances of a ball of gas exploding. Planets and stars forming. Gravity existing and pulling one planet into perfect orbit. That planet somehow has a cell which eventually ends up to be a human. Not to mention the atmosphere these organisms need in order to survive and exist.
canazab - Why do you think that there's something in the universe that's "perfect"? That's what's insane. It's a pie dream. Why do you think it all came about by chance? We don't. Again, you're using what's called a straw-man argument. It's not our side your arguing against, it's yours.
I'm sorry if this comes off as crass, but, you really, really need to learn some science, it's obvious that you haven't even the slighest education in the area.
The dead sea scrolls in no way prove god exists, they prove that Jews existed ~6000 years ago. It's clear you know very little about science. 13.7 BYA an expansion of space time occored, we know this because it left behind cosmic backgroud radition. We know this because of the rate of epansion of the universe, and the speed of light in relation to our location. The big band is supported by mounds of evidence, not guess work. Please read a scientific publication.
How sad that comment is. In casual conversation hypothesis and theory are indeed synonyms. In science, a theory is a proven hypothesis. In fact cosmology states that the universe is 13.7 billion years old (because of dark energy and cosmic background radation). The proof for the "timeline" lies in dating of isotopes. The proof for evolution rests in observations found in any number of peer reviewed papers which you have obviously never read. If evolution is wrong prove it If Gods exist prove it
wow, how presumptuous, why is it required for us to have an explanation for how we got here, just because we don't believe in your god? My ability to see thru the obvious farce of religion as a construct of humanity is based on logic and reason, not a claim to be all knowing. That is YOUR perspective.
How are you trying to make up our side? Here's how:
"How can you say that the world as we know it was initiated by a single cell when a cell cannot even exist without all of its elements existing at once?"
Answer: We didn't say that. Now my question for you is, why would you say we said that? Please let us speak for ourselves. That's just more honest.
I'll take empty for sure. You would figure in the south they way the media is pumping faith that it wouldnt be on the decline, but the sight of that church and the fact they are ramming church classes into the schools are the death throws of christianity circling the bowl.
canazab - For you, reality waits until Judgement Day. Until then, you're thinking in the clouds, man. In America, we have a saying: "Put up, or shut up." Religion cannot do either.
canazab - Why are you asking us ABOUT what we believe about that before asking WHAT we believe? You're trying to make up our side for us. That's really not impressive.
How do you know what I have studied, when you don't even know me? You obviously don't know enough about evolution to point out the claims I made you believe are wrong. Many atheists are so set on not believing in God, that they don't care about pursuing the truth. The truth that we couldn't have arrived here by chance.
canazab - The only people who claim that evolution is about chance are creationists. We don't say that. Evolution is and has been inevitable. So for you to say it's about chance, that's called a "straw-man argument."
They may not say the word chance, however, they use other words, which indicate chance such as probability. Evolutionists and scientists alike know that it is a theory which means it is a guess. It is not inevitable and there is no way to prove that this theory is true. Evolution is based on chance. The theory they came up with is "the big bang" which means they believe we came here by accident - or chance. Creationist and I believe that a intelligent designer, God created the heavens and earth.
Sigh, dude, in dcience, one never goes past theory and to fact. Gravity is just a theory, thermodynamics is just a theory, statisitcs are just a theory, that one plus one equals two is just a theory. Evolution has been proven which is why it is a theory, but science can be wrong. On the other hand, there is no way to prove God created anything.
canazab - Why don't you just go get your god and shut us Atheists up quick? Oh no...you won't, you can't, you don't understand the challenge, I'm talking Swahili....lol
Synoikismo - Public schools ALREADY violate state/church separation in a number of ways as it is. Why do you think any Constitutional "guidance" is going to occur? We're talking about religion classes in public schools, made possible ONLY by state government making "a law respecting an establishment of religion." If they broke the law to push religion into school AGAIN, why does anyone think they'll abide by some other, less important laws now?? Preposterous!
Synoikismo - Yeah, isn't that funny? I think it's impossible to open that book and read from it out loud, and not be preaching, one way or another. No matter how negative that book is, people take it as positive, as long as they choose to believe it. Too bad so many people don't get the luxury of choosing.
Bekll - You rock! I love that attitude. There a many better books out there, and some of them are quite good. Lots of people just don't read enough to know the difference.
The biggest problem I have with these classes is that our tax dollars are being spent to provide a front for religion. How about a state sponsored class on the reasons to be an Atheist? There will be lawsuits and again our tax dollars will be spent for these lawsuits. The Texas religious (christian) power needs to be removed from our government.
It's a Bible Class....not "Reasons to be a Christian" or "Reasons to Believe the Bible" Judging from all the posts, there are a lot of non-Christian people who feel very threatened by this. hmmmmmm!!!
Religion is a farce..i learned this a few years ago after my mom passed. We are spiritual beings and our bodies are a vessel for us to learn one thing...and that thing is LOVE.
ircotton - That assumes that there is only one possibly correct religion, that of the Bible. That stems from pure arrogance, and would only involve a tyrant demon god. Eww ick.
ircotton - What do you have to lose if there is no god? Your life. Being a Christian was like being a mindless zombie for me. It was also mandatory. What good is a religion that offers up such a threat of violence, but never offers us an actual god? You could lose your quality of life and go completely insane - that's what you have to lose. You only get to live once, don't ruin that with religion!
I don't understand why people are so opposed to the Bible being taught in the schools. It is an ELECTIVE not a requirement!!! So, if you don't want to take the class....DON'T!!! Duh! How does it infringe on YOUR rights for ME to take a Bible class? Bible classes being taught no more "forces" religion on people than a Home Economics class "forces" a woman to be a "homemaker". The bottom line is....if You don't want to take the class....DON'T!!!
ircotton - They're NOT optional for us taxpayers. We have to pay for the classes, the teachers, and the inevitable lawsuits that will come because of this. It's also not optional for the faculties, who will have to not only create and run these classes, they'll have to deal with the inevitable fallout. Besides, Jehovah and the Bible don't give a damn about elective attitudes like that, religion is: obey or burn forever. Electives?? Options?? lol!
tax payers would have to pay for that class and if you want a bible study class thats what churches should provide not a school system that teaches facts not fantasy.
because it requires the government to deam what is and is not acceptable in relation to religon, in other words, it requires the government to establish the christian religion for you, thus violating your rights. It also requires them to spend the tax money that we all pay in order to advance a single religon.
Synoikismo - You're for what? A law respecting an establishment of religion? Religion in schools, officially? One religion being taught only? Pornography in print being distributed to minors? What part of this is even one bit acceptable to any reasonable person? Are there no churches in your town? C'mon.
Humanists could turn those abandoned churches into scientific, cultural and social meeting facilities, like Paul Kurtz's idea of eupraxophy centers. In the 19th Century, ordinary Americans would show up for lengthy political debates (like the Lincoln-Douglas ones in 1858) and lectures by traveling intellectuals like Robert Ingersoll, which shows they had an attention span and a level of intelligence hard to find these days. I don't see why we can't restore that tradition now.
Because it's simpler for people to just watch Fox News and le other people come to conclusions for them. It's simpler to watch a moive which confirms thier notions of history without facts, but a few good sex scenes. It's simpler to hear a preacher tell one about life than to actually live it.
I am a Texan and I don't support bible classes. I do not wish my tax dollars going to support any kind of religion. You allow one class and then we have to allow more. Bible classes need to stay in the churches. Do you wish to be paying for a Koran class? Public schools are for general education, not religion.
Our Texas Legislature last year passed a law specifically enabling this Bible class to happen. That was a "law respecting an establishment of religion," and although it was a state legislature that made it, and not Congress, it seems like it's still banned. The federal Constitution supercedes the state ones, or at least it's supposed to.
I don't understand why people are so worried about these classes. It's been approved to teach the BIBLE..not religion, not a denomination. Just hope the right people teach the classes. (I'm actually PRAYING they do.) If the Bible is taught as just that..the BIBLE..w/o any sway toward "religion" or denomination, there shouldn't be a problem, unless..of course, you're worried the following verse from the Bible could be true. Then I could see why the fuss among those who are not friends of God.
ircotton It's filth. Children shouldn't be exposed to that. Are you so immoral that you want young people to read it? You need to read it if that's the case.
It's really odd to think of this as some kind of optional thing. It's really not, but Christians don't want it to be anyway. We're talking about the Bible, which is a book that's forced on young Christians every single day. If it was optional in any real sense, Christianity wouldn't have a grip on the entire western hemisphere.
Synoikismo - It's no option for the taxpayers and the faculties. Still making a violation of the law into something that LOOKS like it's optional is just dishonest. These classes are banned by the US Constitution, and our legislature violated the law in order to make a "law respecting an establishment of religion." There's really no option based in legality.
I have no issue with mythology classes. Religon is history, as long as it is not taught as fact, it is no different than a mythology class, history or philosophy.
Well we have to remember that the Bible is also a very filthy book. There's more sexual abuse and bizarre "adult" behavior in the Bible than a stack of Hustlers.
Plus I don't think it's going to be taught as mythology, but fact instead. Some schools yes, some no. If even one does, they're all a big mistake. It's not history. Only the use and abuse of that book is actual history. The contents inside that book are pure adulterated fiction. Not history.
rkzenrage - Pedophilia? Beastiality? Forced polygamy? Sexual slavery? The list goes on. It's all in there, and some of it is very graphic. Stack of Hustlers...
I think that it would make a great, themed Strip Club.
How about "The Nunnery"...

ZRadach 1 year ago
If God chooses to end the world now, he will take all his believers with him, and of course they must be completely sin free, and if they do have sins, they will have to take punishment, but the punishment is being unable to SEE God while in Heaven for a certain time period. And not seeing God in heaven is the worst punishment ever.
So back to this! If the world DID end right now, God would commit MASS MURDER to all of us through hurricanes/tornadoes/and amazing things. He simply does not care
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
God does not hate PEOPLE just as Adolf Hitler did. So please get your facts straight before you leave your comments. God hates SIN! Not PEOPLE. So he did not kill the people, he killed their sins. Is it mass murder to kill a sin? I don't think so. And you could say the people died along with their sins. That is correct. So it is mass murder right? Well lets pretend it was JUST FOR YOU =D Would you rather he just END THE WORLD! And kill everyone int he worst possible way? And send them to hell?

This is the LAST time that I ever reply to your comments, for I have an answer to everything you ask, but I will not continue to waste my time with someone who is unwilling to change, and yet, continually asks stupid questions.
God IS able to cope with the nature. He simply wanted to CHANGE the nature of his creation. So that when Jesus came down, it would be easier for him to change people.

That's the same mentality that Adolph Hitler had: Humanity would be MUCH better off if we could just get rid of the bad people, really quickly.
In the end, it's still mass murder, and God is the one and ONLY culprit.

Don't think as Thomas did
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
So you understand that I require evidence of such wild claims, as Thomas did. You understand why.
Yet you won't produce what Thomas got: evidence. And you imply that it was wrong for him to demand evidence!
If you had a real god, you wouldn't even be bothering with me. A real god would amuse you plenty. Obviously your god is merely a claim.
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
READ BELOW
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
C. If the devil wants us to not believe in God, is that why you can't find God?
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
A) Yes, you and everyone who does not follow the Ten Commandments needs forgiveness. EVERYONE in this entire world needs forgiveness, and that includes me. No one is perfect except for God. We are always committing sins, and God hates sin. He does not hate YOU! He hates sin. So when he punishes people for being wicked, he is punishing them for their sins, not because of them personally. Before Jesus Christ was born, there was no such thing as forgiveness. (READ B & C) for more
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
Nope, I don't need forgiveness. You can't push that on me. If you insist on lying about me, when you don't know me personally, I'll have to end this.
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
B) When Jesus died on the cross he forgave EVERYONE (who believed in God, and believed that Jesus is coming)
You said, "if they're in heaven, how could they do such wicked things and be rewarded in the end" Well the ones who believed in God, and believed Jesus was coming were the only ones who went up to heaven. When Jesus was in the tomb for 3 days, he went to hell and took all the people who believed this and took them to heaven. Everyone does wicked things, including me. FORGIVENESS = NoSin
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
So why did God flood them?
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
C) "If the devil wants us to not believe in God, is that why you can't find God?"
The answer: Yes, that is exactly the reason. READ THE FOLLOWING: Thomas' response to resurrected Jesus Then He said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed."
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
That's Thomas...or rather...some guy named Thomas. That's not you. I'm asking about you. You're the one bringing this, not a god.
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
This is the answer to the comment below this one:
You call the flood with Noah's Ark and everything a mass murder? God took MALE and FEMALE of every species and put it on Noah's Ark so that they could reproduce as better species. Us humans would be killing each other right now, and there would be NO United States or any country for that matter that serves freedom if it wasn't for the flood. It was a NEW beginning.
P.S. All the people that "God Murdered" are in heaven right now thanks to Jesus
UniQuEclectics 2 years ago
If they're in heaven, how can they do such wicked things and be rewarded in the end? It's a contradictory message: Execution for wicked acts, and then...instantly afterwards...eternal reward. Why?? There is no sense in that, and you can't make sense of it.
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
ANSWER TO THIS LOSERS QUESTION:
He says: Bible is pointless because all you do is learn about who begot who. The reason the bible says who begot who and how many years they lived is to show us how many years have passed. And within this who begot who, there is also a message.

Taffinmafaffin 2 years ago
I will say that the bible has great literary qualities as most fiction books do, it carries with some of the stories about warnings against greed such as Cain and Abel, but these stories are found mainly in the old testament.
Just don't forget that atheism in and of itself is a belief too, and that most atheists fall into the same circular logic and mind traps that they accuse religious people of doing
ScIz0 2 years ago
Sclz0 - I disagree. The Bible is an example of the worst writing propped up by politicians and tyrants. It spells out how greed is very important to religion, starting with God's greed. It's one badly told story about injustice being great after another. Not good writing at all.
So how is Atheism a belief? Please explain. What circular logic and mind traps do we fall into, and how exactly? Did we promise something we can't deliver? lol
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
Circular logic and false claims are two separate things.
Atheism is the belief that there is no god, and that there is nothing. Which hardly makes any sense either, the question still stands, how was the universe created.
The big bang is a theory on how the universe started, but what put all the energy there. It couldn't have "always existed" because then the universe could have always existed and the theory runs into itself.
Atheists should examine what they think and read Bertrand Russel
ScIz0 2 years ago
Terrible argument. Shocking in fact. Atheism is the lack of belief actually, while one may believe in God, Allah, or hundreds of other Gods, Atheists just say no to all of them. You're an atheist in respect to Thor I'd bet.
And read more on the big bang, it gives theories (Scientific theories, please make the distinction) as to how it got there.
p0rkch0ps 2 years ago
It's the belief or opinion, it's really the same thing
Belief (n.) - something believed; an opinion or conviction
That there is no supreme being. None, and never was.
First we establish what you're saying there isn't. A supreme being could be almost anything, a giant orb of energy could be a supreme being, so if you're talking about the current "gods" that use 'divine intervention' then you're right, they don't exist.
But claiming that there is no supreme being, is a belief.
ScIz0 2 years ago
Good points... I guess the only way I can explain it for myself is that I'm a 99% atheist... I'm pretty sure there is no supreme being... But theres that small chance that I have to allow in case there is.
And for a big ball of energy? Plenty of them around the place, lol, trillions in fact.
p0rkch0ps 2 years ago
believe me (get it?), I'm with you on that.
to say that there is no God in the way people perceive that there is, is easy. To say that there is nothing, is giving an answer to an answer to a question with only theories on either side.
In other words, you can't say definitively either way, so what's wrong with people saying "I don't know"? Is it so wrong to admit that?
ScIz0 2 years ago
Atheism is not simply the belief that there is no god. Atheism is the the belief in only that which can be proven with evidence, or can be witnessed through experimentation. The truth is, NOTHING in this universe requires a god, and there is nothing wrong with that. You can explain everything based on a few key theories such as the big bang theory, abiogenesis, evolution, and then genetics, all help explain how we have come to be. All of them do not require magic as the answer.
Xadreos 2 years ago
Atheism is not the belief that there is no god. Atheism is LACK of belief in a god. This means that one rejects the claim "there is a god" because there is not sufficient evidence to prove this claim.
In a practical sense that means that one "knows" there is no god based on the evidence that we have. In an "absolute" manner of thinking what we can say is "we don't know". Neither an atheist nor a theist.
This may have been what you were getting at and if that's the case I'm sorry.
bloodsteam 2 years ago
bloodstream - Thanks, I was just going to say that same thing.
aajoeyjo 2 years ago
Based on a lack of evidence, I believe that there is no god. I hate it when arguments happen over trivialities, such as: is atheism a lack of a belief, a belief or a disbelief. In reality, they are all the same thing. I am an atheist. I believe that there is no god.
Webster's New Dictionary 2002:
atheism (n.) [<Gr a-,without + theos, god]
The BELIEF that there is no god.
We should not argue points such as these, as it makes us appear to be stupid.
ChristopherAtheist 2 years ago

Simply asking if they should cut the throat of a son on request from God is a good one.

rjcjr27 - Interesting.
Thanks for playing. :o)

i avoid nothing. if i don't know, i say i don't know. i have read the bible several times and i study it for fun there are still somethings i dont understand but i don't question the most high (ecc 11:5) just because you study out of something doesn't mean you've read it cover to cover try doing it on your own instead of being forced that's probably y u are the way u are now cuz you were forced. you accept it in love. Love doesn't demand, force or insist it gives and it returns
rjcjr27 3 years ago
rjcjr27 - Funny, when I didn't have to believe it or love it, it said the same thing. I think it's all about what YOU want in a book, and what YOU want in a god. I don't want a god to exist, because it's always an evil god that we're told about. But you can ignore so much evil and love him anyway. That's really bizarre.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
So you're trying to recruit teenagers to Bible studies to try and trap the teacher with questions you believe they can not answer. First of all, people continuously tried to trap Jesus, to no avail with the same methods you are. To answer your question:
"The wickedness of man was great in the earth and every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was ONLY evil CONTINUOUSLY" Gen 6:6 KJV.
They were not just a little "wicked" as you have said. Does not God have a right to punish evildoers?
rbright79 3 years ago
rbright79 - Where do you see or hear the words "recruit" or "trap" in this video? We don't need to recruit anyone to do this sort of thing. People naturally rise to the challenge presented by the insanity of religion, and tend to ask questions on their own.
Jesus screwed up quite a lot, if you read the story. He got himself killed for religious reasons, and acted like he wanted to die the whole time. He also acted like he wanted to be a giant victim, which no one should respect. God IS evil.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
It is so true. People do love darkness more than the light. They hate the light because it reveals that their deeds are evil.
Jesus did not "screw up" as you put it. If you read the Old Testament. . ."Jesus was MEANT to die" for the sins of the whole Earth.
And you call God evil? God who gave his only begotten Son so we could be forgiven for our sins?
It is obvious you have dedicated your life to hate God. What a waste.
rbright79 3 years ago
rbright79 - Just disagreeing with you is not the same as loving darkness. lol You are not a god.
Why would a god mean to die? Why worship a dead god? How can a god sacrifice something?
People who hate God are not Atheists, they're disgruntled believers. That's a waste. Life is much better than all that.

No, you have it all backwards. It's not rationalist's job to disprove your silly bible. If you claim the bible is true, the burden of proof is yours.
Jesus is Lord? Do you have evidence for that claim? If not, you shouldn't make it.
Jeremyguru 3 years ago
Actually God has already proved himself through his creation (Psalm 19, Romans 1). So you have no excuse whatsoever.
rbright79 3 years ago
"Actually God has already proved himself through his creation (Psalm 19, Romans 1). So you have no excuse whatsoever." Why are you quoting the bible? Quoting a book of primitive myths doesn't support your claims any more than quoting the Quran, Book of Mormon, etc.
We were not "created."
For the sake of argument, if I concede that we were "created," which god created us? What evidence do you have?
And who created your god?
Atheistjeremy 3 years ago
We already know that the Psalms are bullshit. Psalm 14:1 proves it.
Plus if a god was proven to exist, wouldn't there be fewer different religions in the world? Obviously said "proof" is weak at best. Nice try, for an all-powerful god. lol

i can tell u something, no one can ever proove god, if all we know is nature, and god is supposedly outside of nature, u can never proove it, not even with the ludacris bible

i can just as easily point out that charles darwins manifest destinies are a bad influence as well.

That's really rude and unnecessary, but back it up, if you can.

while i think that an elective class that looks objectively at the bible would not necessarily be against the constitution, i think problems will arise with how it is taught. will the teachers maintaining their objectivity? they will most likely be christians themselves with their own views.
religion has many historical, political and philosophical implications which are important, but a comparative religion class would be much more valuable than one that just looks at the bible.
tommystumble 3 years ago
Before these classes ever got started, they were enabled by a state "law respecting an establishment of religion." House Bill 1287 is the Bible Classes in Public Schools Act, and it's word for word forbidden by the Establishment Clause of the Federal Constitution. So the classes are already a violation of the US Constitution. For this and other reasons, I don't think it can be taught objectively. That's way too much to ask from obvious Bible-pushers.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
And a side-note. I think the Bible is one of the most historically significant books in the Western World, if not the entire world. It definitely deserves study whether or not you believe in it. It's also rather entertaining with plenty of violence and comedy. But it definitely shouldn't be taught in schools. I think the closest thing that could be taught is some kind of "World Religions" course that covers all of the major religions in a historical and anthropological context.
phlegmuffin 3 years ago
The Bible doesn't even mention the western world. What's significant to the western world about the Bible is how it's been forced on people who had other religions first. Every word in it simply doesn't pertain to anything in the history of the western world. People try to confuse those two aspects of the book. The cover and the contents. Two different things.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
And those prior religions weren't also "forced"? What about these peoples' language? Culture? Social status? Geography? And so on. Anyway, as I said, the Bible is incredibly significant to the Western World in much the same way Buddhist scripture is for Chinese history. Religions spread and influence other civilizations regardless of where they were originally born. The Western World as we know it today is inextricably linked to the introduction of the Bible. For better or for worse? Who knows?
phlegmuffin 3 years ago
So what part of the Bible is relevant to the history of the western world? Show me in the Bible where it even mentions that. You're implying that there must be several entire chapters in there all about New York City alone! You're promoting someone else's book.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
How can you pride yourself over logic and reasoning and simultaneously be incapable of understanding the simplest of analogical arguments? Maybe I was being unfair in assuming you knew anything about China/Buddhism. Here, I'll try again.
Plato's Republic is relevant to the history of The United States. Surely you know this. Being an ancient text, does it mention ANYTHING about our country? No. Relevant? Very. Now extend this to how the Bible is relevant to the Western World. See where I'm going?
phlegmuffin 3 years ago
So how are they relevant to the history of the western world? You make the claim and then ignore your duty to back it up.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
Why encourage students to give their teachers a hard time? You shouldn't be preaching atheism, you should focus on upholding the separation of church and state. I don't think it's in your best interest to associate your movement to get religion out of schools with atheism. It's enough to simply point out how its defying the first amendment.
phlegmuffin 3 years ago
phlegmuffin - This is part of state/church separation activism. We can't stop the classes from happening, so why fight it or avoid it, like it's not a problem? They're poisoning kids with this, and we have free speech too. No self-respecting Atheist accepts government religion, or the idea that you have to help pay for it. Pointing out something is hardly activism by itself. You have to actually do something too.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
Well yes, of course. By all means, let's do something about it. But this is the problem I have:
"Become a student and give the teacher our toughest questions about the Bible"... so on...
This is unnecessary. The inaccuracies of the Bible are beside the point! Unfortunately, many Americans have very bad associations with Atheism. So lets keep atheism/theism out of the church and state debate and focus on the constitution. That's the issue.
I'm fine with activism, but why throw in your beliefs?
phlegmuffin 3 years ago
We're part of society, that's why we get involved. It's necessary for a successful student to ask about the subject matter of their classes. There's nothing wrong with asking questions. It's not a disruption and it's not disrespectful. The Constitution doesn't say "state-church separation" so why ignore the real present aspects of this? Atheism/religion ARE relevant. Thowing in beliefs is what you do when you interract. Don't live a silent existence.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
canazab - Okay you're getting out of hand, foaming at the mouth and such. Here's your warning: Stop it or you'll be blocked. Simple.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
You're framing the questions all wrong. Nothing necessitates that the answer to the question of what makes evolution work is a "who" rather than a "what." You are clearly not interested in educating yourself or doing anything but validating the beliefs you already wanted to hold. It is a waste of time to argue with you.

If you call observation of cosmic background radiation, an expanding universe the isotpotry (sp) of the cosmos and recreations of the event and quantum (sp) science guesses, sure. But by your standard Gravity is a guess.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
We know exctly where the elements "came from" (rather the natural process by which they foremed) and can reproduce it in a lab (in fact we have actually created elements ourselves). First cause was at the quantum level. Seriously, read about science before you make yourself look like an idiot.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
I am sure you have created elements yourselves. That is - if you have all the elements to create something and the intelligence to know how to create it. You are reduced to insult my intelligence because you don't want to admit that your little theory has cracks. You can't even admit that these theories don't even claim to have all the answers - yet you are portraying that they do. Don't believe everything that you read just because it sounds good.
canazab 3 years ago
If you had ever read any sort of scientific document relating to the big bang, you would know that there are ways to prove it wrong. You haven't pointed any out, because the theroy has held up under review. All of your arguments can be dealt with if you take a weekend and learn what you're talking about. I pointed out the creation of elements because it shows that we can understand the natural process which causes them to form in labs and in nature (which has also been observed).
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
You have taste buds to dectect things that you shouldn't be eating, fingerprints to allow more feeling and easier grip, we feel emotion because we are political animals, and it helps us adapt and interact to our benefit. Statistics are not biology cosmosogy chemestry or geology. Also the statistical argument is not valid.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
You need to look at the probability of our universe coming into perfect order by accident. It is insane to me that you believe this all came about by chance. What are the chances of a ball of gas exploding. Planets and stars forming. Gravity existing and pulling one planet into perfect orbit. That planet somehow has a cell which eventually ends up to be a human. Not to mention the atmosphere these organisms need in order to survive and exist.
canazab 3 years ago
canazab - Why do you think that there's something in the universe that's "perfect"? That's what's insane. It's a pie dream. Why do you think it all came about by chance? We don't. Again, you're using what's called a straw-man argument. It's not our side your arguing against, it's yours.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
I'm sorry if this comes off as crass, but, you really, really need to learn some science, it's obvious that you haven't even the slighest education in the area.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
The dead sea scrolls in no way prove god exists, they prove that Jews existed ~6000 years ago. It's clear you know very little about science. 13.7 BYA an expansion of space time occored, we know this because it left behind cosmic backgroud radition. We know this because of the rate of epansion of the universe, and the speed of light in relation to our location. The big band is supported by mounds of evidence, not guess work. Please read a scientific publication.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
How sad that comment is. In casual conversation hypothesis and theory are indeed synonyms. In science, a theory is a proven hypothesis. In fact cosmology states that the universe is 13.7 billion years old (because of dark energy and cosmic background radation). The proof for the "timeline" lies in dating of isotopes. The proof for evolution rests in observations found in any number of peer reviewed papers which you have obviously never read. If evolution is wrong prove it If Gods exist prove it

The establishment test reads thus
The government's action must have a secular legislative purpose;
The government's action must not have the primary effect of either advancing or inhibiting religion;
The government's action must not result in an "excessive government entanglement" with religion.
I think it's clear that prongs two and three are violated and if even one is violated the action is uncontsitutional.
rjbonacolta 3 years ago
wow, how presumptuous, why is it required for us to have an explanation for how we got here, just because we don't believe in your god? My ability to see thru the obvious farce of religion as a construct of humanity is based on logic and reason, not a claim to be all knowing. That is YOUR perspective.

How are you trying to make up our side? Here's how:
"How can you say that the world as we know it was initiated by a single cell when a cell cannot even exist without all of its elements existing at once?"
Answer: We didn't say that. Now my question for you is, why would you say we said that? Please let us speak for ourselves. That's just more honest.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
I'll take empty for sure. You would figure in the south they way the media is pumping faith that it wouldnt be on the decline, but the sight of that church and the fact they are ramming church classes into the schools are the death throws of christianity circling the bowl.

canazab - For you, reality waits until Judgement Day. Until then, you're thinking in the clouds, man. In America, we have a saying: "Put up, or shut up." Religion cannot do either.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
canazab - Why are you asking us ABOUT what we believe about that before asking WHAT we believe? You're trying to make up our side for us. That's really not impressive.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
You obviously haven't studied evolution enough to understand it in the first place.
UmbrellaAl 3 years ago
How do you know what I have studied, when you don't even know me? You obviously don't know enough about evolution to point out the claims I made you believe are wrong. Many atheists are so set on not believing in God, that they don't care about pursuing the truth. The truth that we couldn't have arrived here by chance.
canazab 3 years ago
canazab - The only people who claim that evolution is about chance are creationists. We don't say that. Evolution is and has been inevitable. So for you to say it's about chance, that's called a "straw-man argument."
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
They may not say the word chance, however, they use other words, which indicate chance such as probability. Evolutionists and scientists alike know that it is a theory which means it is a guess. It is not inevitable and there is no way to prove that this theory is true. Evolution is based on chance. The theory they came up with is "the big bang" which means they believe we came here by accident - or chance. Creationist and I believe that a intelligent designer, God created the heavens and earth.
canazab 3 years ago
Sigh, dude, in dcience, one never goes past theory and to fact. Gravity is just a theory, thermodynamics is just a theory, statisitcs are just a theory, that one plus one equals two is just a theory. Evolution has been proven which is why it is a theory, but science can be wrong. On the other hand, there is no way to prove God created anything.

We're talking about religion classes in public schools, made possible ONLY by state government making "a law respecting an establishment of religion." If they broke the law to push religion into school AGAIN, why does anyone think they'll abide by some other, less important laws now?? Preposterous!
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
Synoikismo - Yeah, isn't that funny? I think it's impossible to open that book and read from it out loud, and not be preaching, one way or another. There are a lot of "hard questions" you can ask in Bible class and out of Bible class. Here are a couple for you....
1) If the Bible is full of fables and none of it is true; it's all made up-- what do I have to lose? Answer: Nothing
2) If the Bible IS right and I don't believe it and don't accept Christ as my Savior as the Bible says, what do I have to lose? Answer: Everything.

What good is a religion that offers up such a threat of violence, but never offers us an actual god? You could lose your quality of life and go completely insane - that's what you have to lose. You only get to live once, don't ruin that with religion!

Besides, Jehovah and the Bible don't give a damn about elective attitudes like that, religion is: obey or burn forever. Electives?? Options?? lol!

aajoeyjo 3 years ago
Humanists could turn those abandoned churches into scientific, cultural and social meeting facilities, like Paul Kurtz's idea of eupraxophy centers. In the 19th Century, ordinary Americans would show up for lengthy political debates (like the Lincoln-Douglas ones in 1858) and lectures by traveling intellectuals like Robert Ingersoll, which shows they had an attention span and a level of intelligence hard to find these days. I don't see why we can't restore that tradition now.

how on earth did this class pass threw the legal system?
sheepwshotguns 3 years ago
Our Texas Legislature last year passed a law specifically enabling this Bible class to happen. That was a "law respecting an establishment of religion," and although it was a state legislature that made it, and not Congress, it seems like it's still banned. The federal Constitution supercedes the state ones, or at least it's supposed to.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago

If it was optional in any real sense, Christianity wouldn't have a grip on the entire western hemisphere.
aajoeyjo 3 years ago
