Lol at the "veggie monster" idiots who fail to realise that cookie monster has been educating kids about healthy eating for years. He has been subtly advocating healthy eating for a long time, he was even in a public service announcement. I think that in reality, he is a "learn by example" of the wrong kind of attitude for eating, especially since every other character has always tried to show him the variety of foods he needs.

@carolandpie good thing that you are not the target audiance than, and the target audiance seems to like the songs that are on it now. The show really does need to stay current because than the kids might have difficulties relating to the storylines and would stop being interested. Besides all of the other kids shows have changed as well, for example Barney and Veggietales.

However, Cookie has ALWAYS promoted healthy habits from as early as 1972, since he's eaten things like apples since that time. Cookie Monster has always done nutrition-related lessons, even back in the 70s; I've heard of a public-service announcement on commercial TV that showed him eating a healthy meal (with a referee's whistle for dessert, to give him strong lungs). The "Healthy Food" song has played on Sesame Street since the 1980s, long before the "Veggie Monster" rumors and the obsessive focus on nutrition began. I agree though--after his new health-conscious makeover, Cookie Monster hardly seems like himself.

Actually, they've really nerfed his Cookie eating. In fact, I haven't seen Cookie monster eat a cookie in years... and yes, I'm still watching Seaseme street. And I won't make excuses. I haven't got a social life.

The problem became, like with McDonalds, parents were blaming Cookie Monster for their children being fat. I think if you do blame cookie monster, you should be sertilized. I was four when I realized he never actually ATE a cookie... a little older when I realized they weren't real.
