# Most Canadians will be “represented” in Parliament by somebody they voted against. 50,7% of votes in 2008 federal election did not go to a wining candidate.
# Canada will elect less than 25% women to Parliament. [...] Every democracy with at least 30% women in its legislature uses a proportional voting system.
Few countries have kept our outdated First Past the Post system. The last majority government elected by a majority of voters was in 1937. Why keep an undemocratic system?
In other countries where MMP has been put in place, there have been more minorities and women elected and I think that would improve our government... I encourage everyone to vote yes!
Does anyone else feel like this proposed new system has been socially engineered, propagandized, and is basically a foregone conclusion? Proponents for MMP make a great deal of glorious claims, but I've seen precious little actual argument to back them up. There is no discussion of implications of this proposed new system. Is no one else stunned to hear claims of 'accountability' in a system that uses 'list candidates', aka appointees!
There will still be ridings, as well as list members. Thus you WILL have someone representing your area, unlike in a truly PR system. As for MMP being propagandized, the majority of people aren't sure of what MMP is becuase the government has kept quiet about it. And why wouldn't they, when the liberals and the conservatives have won a majority of the seats with less than half of Canada's votes in the past?
I feel exactlly like that anotherrandom11, first off the people of Ontario didn't ask for this referendum and the associated costs in the first place. The change was pushed by small splinter parties. The public spoke October 10th and want more accountability. They do not want paid MPPs that have no accountability not to ridings or constituents or any other defined entity or channel. The people of Ontario want more transparency of the use of their tax dollars, at all levels of government.
The Ontario public made an informed decision October 10th. Using our tax dollars to pay for 22 more politicians and their staff at Queens Park, without knowing what the additional 22 will be doing, suggests that we need decisions made for us. I will never give up my electoral power to political insiders, and I'm glad it blew up in their faces !!
"SECURE VOTING PROCESS"? Dude, party votes can be counted on paper just as easily as local votes.
Voting for MMP doesn't hand a blank cheque to "MMP groups" to work on a nebulous "project" -- it's an approval of something that's already been worked out and published. There's no ambiguity here: a proposal is before us, and 90% of the arguments against it, including 100% of yours, are kookery.

Blueberrypicn, you've hit the nail on the head.
Direct Democracy is the only true democracy.
Otherwise; it's just musical chairs, with a bunch of corrupt assholes waiting to fuck each other around.
How much have Canadians sold out to the US?
How much worse is it going to get?

I've been exposed to project management, but thank God it didn't sink in if this is what it does to you.
As for your "suddenly 'require new tabulation methods'" slippery-slope argument: it's so weak that other slippery-slope arguments laugh at it.
The Conspiracy, were it to exist, would be better served by gaming the current system, not gambling on manipulating a new one.
