  • no vst is the best its just different. different recording styles, available options in the vst engine, different articulations, how many mics, and different players. i personally like kontakt 5 orchestra samples and EastWest. and in my experience, ill always have to adjust the sound to get it the way that i want. ultimately its up to you and how you use it that makes it the best for you.

  • Man can you tell me how you program it.I don't have a sustain pedal

  • I want this video on my S660 unit.

  • what software do you use to record?

  • @Hewleri By the looks of the screen behind Kontakt there, I'd say Sonar. Probably 8.

  • I am around the strange part of Youtube once again.

  • I don't have a sustain pedal on my midi controller.

Can someone please tell me how to program it in like Ableton live 8.2, or on the Midi controller, or whatever... I dunno where to program it.:)

Pls massage me if have the answer for that:) Thx

  • @Markovicsable

Hey man..i''m in the same boat. I dont have a sustain pedal either. I cant find a way to start it without having one...

  • Guyz just STFU, wait till the torrent comes out and get it sheesh

  • It's kind of funny how uninformed psyoptica and crazyboy1984777 are. LASS sounds harsh for a reason. They left all the high frequencies in rather than pre-EQing the library. That's because you can always cut the offending frequencies OUT if you don't want them, but if you have Hollywood Strings or Kirk Hunter where those frequencies were EQed out, you can't bring them back IN if you decide you want a harsh sound. You're stuck with warmth whether you want it or not. Flexibility, folks!

  • I must be smoking crack then. I bought LASS Lite and was seriously unimpressed. The individual instruments sounded OK but the ensemble patches sounded like they have a cold! I even found the strings built-in to Logic Pro to be preferable. Maybe it's just a limitation of the Lite version, but I think there are a better sample libraries out there. I listened to a bunch and ended up settling on Kirk Hunter. Sounds way better than LASS in my opinion.

  • session strings has ART too, this is good but symphobia is better

  • Im surprised that most ppl say LASS sucks due to the dryness. The developers wanted to give you raw and dry samples and assume that you are a good engineer to add your own effects during mixdown

  • There's probably a wealth of information in this tutorial. But the voice is on 1 and the music is on 11 - not into riding the volume while listening so bottom line - this productions sucks - thumbs down for not giving a shit on balancing your voice with the music.

  • I believe this demo lacks the reverb that other demos may incorporate, thus sounds thinner and dryer. For those of you who are a little new to sampled instruments, you should know that it takes a little work to get them sounding realistic. You have to add the right reverb, which usually isn't a two-click process and requires a little knowledge of acoustics. Then you may even have to EQ to some degree. Once that's done, it sounds superior IMO. I don't like 1st chair though.

  • Is there any way to change the number of notes in the ART tool from the default of 16? for example for a 3/4 instead of 4/4 time signature

  • for the love of god turn your mic up! Youre a professional sound guy!!

  • Get the dry samples, use whatever effect you want yourself and for warmth, send them thru Culture Vulture or Fatso - like outboards. I believe you'll like the sound that comes outta them.

  • I'm a EWQL Symphonic Orchestra user, and after watching this video I can tell you that EWQLSO is way better than LASS (Even if LASS is a strings VST).

If you want strings... Hollywood Strings.. no doubt

  • lol. For those people who say it sucks. It sounds like shit because you play like shit. Also, if you are really good, you should be able to cover up the fact that its a sampled string.

  • @blo0magic

'if you are really good, you should be able to cover up'

I totally agree with you on that one I use Edirol Orchestra but when i get EWQLSO Gold its game over!... I have the choirs and they are amazing

  • LASS sounds like shit.

  • sorry but there is no velocity sensitivity??!?

  • AMAZING SOUND ! CONGRATULATIONS FROM BRASILIAN MAESTRONEY

  • Sorry to pop your bubble, but LASS sounds horrible. If you want the truest sound of EVERY instrument, get the VSL library.

  • Sorry to pop your bubble, but this demo sounds crappy. I recommend buying the VSL Symphonic Cube or anything from VSL. Nothing can compare to it.

  • @dugleydoright backoff, agent

  • were i find this vst pack?

  • @alkay audiobro.com

  • This audio unit is very good...it dosent even look like he put effects on it and it stil sounds sick..great stuff

  • rednecks

  • Anybody know to use a.r.t. in LASS on Fl Studio without sustain pedal ?

  • Does this program work with Logic Pro Studio? Can you use it WITHIN logic? If not how do you use all the different sample libraries together? I.e. if I was using this with some of logic studios sounds, plus some VSL sounds, and some of ProjectSAMS, how do you use them all if you can't bring them all into logic?

I'm just getting into expanding my sample libraries after using the Logic Studio Pro ones for ages, this and its the only thing I completely don't understand.

    Please help? Many thanks!

  • @ChloePotterMusic Yes, they can be used in Logic or any DAW if you have Kontakt. Kontakt is a sampler, get that, and it has both a standalone and a VST. So you set up audio tracks in your DAW, be it Logic, Sonar, Cubase, whatever, load an instance of Kontakt into your audio track, and load whatever samples you want there.

  • but I use a volume pedal? you can 'use?

  • HOLLYWOOD STRINGS RULES!

  • bill clinton composes??!

  • What did you use to naturalize the sound? Make it less "raw"? Because when you load them, they still have that empty "recording room" "plastic" sound wrapped around. So how did you get rid of it?

  • Holy Shit. Its Bill Clinton

  • Sounds very computerized and stiff. There is a work around for that if you want to go the distance. The patches you showed in this demo sounded like digital samples rather then natural. The lack of warmth is a big problem with most digital samplers as I only know of two products that can truly fool the ear. There were lots of digital glitches in your loops, possibly you had some clipping going on?

  • @JamesRoneyMusic You want to elaborate on how VST is not digital? Of course they're digital as it's all on a computer...however the samples are actual recordings from a live symphony with live players. The clipping is from skipping the load frames so I could fit as many samples in the YT 10m video limit. Maybe it sounds computerized because...it's done via a computer?

  • @SSFMP sorry about the confusion. As a professional composer and sound engineer for longer then I care to remember, I was talking about how some equipment sounds like computer generated music not matter how hard we try to hide it. The only work around is to blend other sound modules in for greater realism. Again, I'm sorry for the confusion as I had a hunch after I posted it that I might be misunderstood. There's an exact science to getting motion picture quality strings of which is a big task.

  • @SSFMP i've heard stuff from vienna symphonic library and others than don't sound digital at all.

  • @SSFMP, based upon your response your ears have not been spoiled by elite sound generators. Each sound generator has a very unique sound/personality to it, and in some cases share a common trade flaw that is subtle at first that most other ears don't notice at first until your ears come to recognize it. Don't get me wrong, with the right engineering, the flawed sound in this program can be addressed. Just because it's computerized does not mean it has to sound like it came from a computer.

  • @SSFMP Just ignore comments like those, where's it obvious the person has little clue what he's talking about. Digital samples as opposed to... natural? Does he mean analog samples? Who knows? Plus, the big giveaway is always when people refer to warmth while not knowing or understanding that warmth has a specific definition in the context of audio processing.

  • @SoAandFriends exactly! you can make a "digital" signal sound "warm" without audio processing. the only people i've known to complain, really, are the people who can't mix good and think they need bigger, better, more analog, more digital, ect. i mean i know i am not at the level of mixing that i want to be, nor do i brag on what level i am at, but i DO know that the ratio of mixing skills versus equipment favors mixing skills over equipment by a long shot. Just my Opinion. lol :)

  • @CRAZYBOY1984777 you mad bro? and I agree the SOLO instrument sections from EW are about all that I would use them for. As for strings, LASS, Cinematic Strings, Hollywood Strings or nothing. L2 process audio effects and I never used EW out of the box without altering the sound, sorry.

  • @SSFMP I tried EWQL and it didn't sound good for me. It's sampled with reverb and it has a synthetic sound to it. In some situations I would love to use a DRY sample and EWQL is mad wet and even stereo, ew. LA strings I would have to say is the best there is as far as SAMPLING goes. Totally usable right out of the box & sounds GREAT dry. EWQL you gotta tweak it mad plus the string sin EWQL has no feelings. LA strings you can feel a bit of emotion in every note. The player did a good job.

  • @CRAZYBOY1984777 can you score for violin? i need something for a disco record.

  • @CRAZYBOY1984777 i guess you are crazy boy. lol somebody should go back to 3rd grade english class lol.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic you know all the digital stuff your talking about i think is just the video encoding your a bit silly not to realize that checked this out in the flesh this library is superb!

  • @blakasmurf, like I stated above, each sound generator has a very unique sound/personality to it, and in some cases share a common trade flaw that is subtle at first that most other ears don't notice right away until your ears come to recognize it. Between 3:13 and 3:28 the serious flaw in the program rears it's ugly head. Just that other patches hide this flaw better.

I have a sound library that consists of well over fifty thousand sounds, many of which have this very flaw in it.

  • @JamesRoneyMusic cuales son esos dos productos que mencionas que pueden engañar al oido?

  • @JamesRoneyMusic add a good reverb to it and it makes a world of difference.. Im surprised these actually sound very real compared to some others.. theres alot of things you do to make it rea... Imperfections.. bow noises ect.. also velocity makes a huge difference.. seriously.. It's all about the mixing.. and thanks for the demo SSFMP

  • @JamesRoneyMusic I agree on most, can you name those two products? im looking for some real (most realistic possible at least) sounding strings on a vst.

  • how well would an 8 core Mac Pro with 6 gb of RAM handle LASS? I'm thinking of getting this and maybe getting 8 gb total RAM ... Audiobro recommends a second computer to help run stuff but surely 8 gb and 8 cores would be enough? I can handle Trilian pretty well...

  • @truelight11 I would up the ram, and run the LASS samples off a separate internal hard drive in one of the mac pro bays. I'm currently running a 4 core with 10 gigs of ram, and across Logic and Miroslav, I've got about 10 instances with 16 samples loaded in each one - and it runs just fine.

  • Can LASS do slurred runs?

  • @mooreentstudios I have yet to find a decent pre-created run sample, but you can create one with LASS or Symphobia

  • @SSFMP Do you know where I can find an example of LASS' runs?

  • Can LASS do realistic runs?

  • Which has better quality....EW Hollywood Strings or LASS?

  • Okay, Hollywood Strings or LA Scoring Strings? I'm on the verge of purchasing either, so which should I go with and why? Please Help.

  • ooo dude you sound like george bush :D

  • OMFG Bill Clinton does Youtube Tutorials?

  • @Fraggle01sfoc OMFG Charlie Sheen does Youtube Tutorials?

  • You are using many of the libraries I use or are currently in the decision making process, ie Sample Mds Mr Saxes &TBN. I also use LASS in Sonar 8.5-Kontakt 4. I wondered if you would mind providing your web contact info?

  • what daw is that?

  • @deshawnpenrose this is Sonar 8

  • @manuriga1 Thanks, I thought it was a new Cubase

  • @deshawnpenrose haha no, believe me i work years with Sonar , sonar is far out the best sequencer you can have, especially for Soundtracking.

  • What reverb do you use?? I use Wave Arts master verb, its a good reverb for some things but not for strings. Please recommend a reverb.

  • There not too bad that's for sure! but the price is just as much as Hollywood strings, and when it comes to EW..... psshh you just cant beat it

  • @SteveMLloyd ... totally .. when it comes down to it .. I'd prefer Hollywood strings! .. but would definitely love to have this in my vst folder as well

  • Dosnt seem to work to re-assign the CC#64, i've tried over 3 hours now just to figure out how to re-assign the key to my modulation controller, any help?

  • This is shit! and you cant play or compose for shit! Hollywood strings blows this out of tha water!

  • @SuperPawuk Dude your fucked up badly! You have an obsession with Hollywood Strings! You post shitty messages on Cinematic Strings and LASS and you offend people without a reason! You should suck a cock, you seem to need it! Your human value is clearly much cheaper than LASS or CS!Stop your Hollywood Strings shit and jump off a cliff! You don't even have Hollywood Strings, so don't be a frustrated gay fart, and get a fucking life! From Romania, i say to you: Suck my mf dick bitch!:)))Crazy fool

  • @ANashuu Pour petrol over Indians and throw matches at them it's fucking hilarious

  • dude, i need help getting this im in desperate need in strings

  • Great 2 videos! I was wondering how do i get the Sustain pedal to work via 1 of my Midi knobs?as i dont have sustain pedal. i managed to get the Velocity knob to do exactly wot you did.. cheers:)

  • @thefangpage MIDI CC )Control Channel) 64, program that to a knob/slider

  • please can you tell me what do i do if i don't have a sustain pedal again i didn't get that part at the beginning of the video ??

  • Comment removed

  • does it work with the free Kontakt Player?

  • AHAHHAHAAH! LOL!!!!

"Many people says that LASS are shit.. That people smoking crack! LOL Man! You got subscribe for this!!!!

    Nice tool btw..

  • In my opinion I believe LASS is superior to the EW series

  • Posiiiiblemente mejor que EWQLSO Gold y Platinum, pero Hollywood Strings se coje a LASS por todos sus orificios.

  • @SSFMP i think its you whos been smoking crack to believe that!!!!

  • very nice, But I'm curious if it can stand up to the east west Hollywood Strings library wich is comming out very soon.

  • i Love this i really need it

  • This review was very helpful

  • Nice review!. Sounds Fantastic some of the features look great.

  • LASS is also a great companion for EWQL. as we all know the solo patches in Eastwest seem to have been thrown in as an afterthought. I'm saving up for it myself.

  • Very true, I've discovered the keyswitch solos are excellent.

  • LASS is definitely the best string VST library available! I've never heard anything that sounded as realistic and alive as LASS does. I've already ordered my copy saving 200 Euro due to a special offer. Can't wait to get it! I already know it's worth every single cent! I think if you got LASS you won't need to look for other string libraries - this is the real deal!

  • i can tell you now that there is a better sting library that this one which is the new hollywood strings from eastwest and trust me it is the best string library there is out there at this time and moment the only down side is that it is a very very big program.....in fact it is 532GB of sting sounds. it is really amazing if you have the money and hard drive space lol but i do agree this does sound very nice

  • @dnjproductions2009 I hate it when companies sell huge 500 GB packs of sounds cuz they think it will seem awesome to consumers. 500 GB for just strings is ridiculous. Even LASS 35 GB I think is a bit high.

Lemme illustrate how ridiculous it is. I have a couple of guitar sound sets some of which are like gigs and gigs. But the most realistic good-sounding one I have is only around 250 MB!!!

Chew on that; bigger is not necessarily better.

  • @theguyi26 fair say fair say, but they have not made it 500GB to make it seem cool, in fact they lowered the GB down to 300GB for consumers. The program Hollywood Strings has been produced with a lot of work and thought gone into it...they have thought about every aspect of an orchestra and thought about every single articulation possible to be played in the virtual world. They have recored everthing possible with in an orchestra and not only that they have recorded them in 4 different

  • mic positions making it more of live performance and also giving us composers a different way of hearing things and to have the power of one of the best orchestras in the pram of your hands and be able to play what they can on stings on keyboard and be able to do everything possible that can be done on strings, completely rapes LASS up the arse =D.....and you can find some good realistic sounds which are less MB but tell me how much can you do with that guitar patch that you can do in real life?

  • @dnjproductions2009 you can't beat a live recording, simply put, it's impossible

  • @SSFMP true say

  • @dnjproductions2009 Well my guitar patch includes slides, hammer on/off, harmonics, body slaps, multiple guitars, easy chord patterns etc it's basically the best thing in the world. As for hollywood strings, 300 GB is a bit better and maybe it is as good as you say, but even then I would still wait like 10 years (when my external harddrive is like 10 TB, computers have 64 GB ram and you can transfer stuff super fast) before considering it.

  • @theguyi26 well you can get computers that have 4TB hard drive and 16GB of RAM which is twice of the recommended system requirements for HS =D...ive meet some people who have brought it and i have tried it out for my self...and i have also tried LASS out and comparing then both the sounds from HS is alot more realistic than the strings in LASS even tho LASS does sound pretty dam good it isn't as great as HS

  • @dnjproductions2009 does it have can violin run articulations.

  • @cortezforever yurrrrrppp....they spent quite some time getting it to a very high standard and it sounds brill =D
