You see, so far as I understood, the main theme of this discussion is to introduce the Persian literature in a small frame. He begins by saying Salam, which is cultural in the East, and then he resumes by talking of types intoxication, voluntary and involuntary, through consumption of Wine. Now, I might be wrong, but I have a strong suspicion that this guy bellow didn't understand the concepts that Dr Ghomshei was talking about, so he was limited to bogus criticism of his introduction of SALAM.
SALAAM means to submit, period. Where the hell does this guy get these meaning such as Friendship, Security, Peace or Paradise from? He has always done his best to confuse and mislead the audience and this is no exception.
With this knid of language it is no wonder that you think Ghomshei is a "great philisopher". May be he was your teacher. The guy above seems to have gone to the same school too.
Ghomshei, is one of most valuable philosophers of our time. Both for the west & the east. Dr. ghomshei, who I've had the pleasure of meeting in person a couple of times, has the an extraordinary knowledge of human culture, literature, philosophy of arts and so on. He is respected by the world's most important scholars. So clearly someone like you doesnt have the capacity to comprehend his analysis. this isnt politics. this literature, art and culture. his not misleading, his opening your eyes.
My dear Amir in my previous comment a bit further down I have explained the roots of the world "SALAAM". It has the same root as "TASLEEM" i.e. to submit. But if you like this guy and believe his word is final and should not be criticised (like some of theses people who have replied to my comments) then I have nothing to add.

As always this man is talking bullshit and mixes things up to pretend that he is talking philosophical! Just to give an example at the beginning he tries to explain the meaning of salam and he knowingly lies yet again. "SALAAM" has the same root (SALAMA (سلم as "TASLEEM" and "ESLAM"meaning to submit i.e. you submit yourself to a superior and it does NOT mean greeting from God.
