Thank god for European bands!, i´m in america and with the emo movement right now i felt out of place and time, but when i was looking for music from another countries, i started to hear more songs from radiohead, beyond "creep", and one thing lead to another and i found all these great band, most of them old or disbanded right now like stone roses, ride, and even their influences like MBV, jesus and mary chain, I´m 24 and i feel like going back to writing music, i feel reborned!!!
That's cool, man. I really got into this type of music and it has inspired me to start making music. I'm pretty amatuer right now, but I'm glad I found bands like The Smiths, Ride, Slowdive, and Alison's Halo because without them I'd be an unchanged man.
check out a band called the sound, they have a great track called silent air. also check out the happy mondays (if you havent already) loose fit and wrote for luck are great tunes. hmm also check out the chameleons. being from america im guessing you already know about sonic youth and dinosaur jnr and pavement? i could go on for days about great 90's bands
thanks to all the people that have commented here. I ´m amazed that in just a year after I wrote here, people are paying attention slowly but steadily to bands like the ones we love and hear, and are finding a place in the world´s ipods. Who knows, we feel like "gloddiggers" know, but soon that music could be the "rule" and not the "exception" again. If that´s good? I don´t know, but if you agree with me, or not, you can always respond, as you have been done so far. (y)
I agree,it is the music.,but ride were bit early and out of place,..they are one of my fav bands..,over oasis, and mark and andy..when oasis supported ride, agreed to swap slots, ride supporting oasis,..ride didnt have the balls, or " or up for it " attitude, which is a shame, worse though was them splitting up just when all the underground bands exploded..,still their first 3 albums classic,oh to be 17 again !
you're right sydskyds, they were a bit early, but to me they are better than any band that came after them.they just touch me like no other band has.and yeah,to be 17 ha ha!
I totally remember all the horribly colored oversized shirts of the '90s that UK bands wore. If shoegazing started today, dudes would be rocking ghetto gowns and clown shoes.
quite a memorable period in my life listening to ride only downside i was still in love with fiona my girl of that year.

Is this lip synched? Still, kind of amazing that this was on TV at all. It was a weird and wonderful time.

Is it just me, or was independent music way better in the '90s?
It's like Ride and My Bloody Valentine and Blur vs. the Strokes and the Hives and the Shins. . . haha.
I mean, I like the Strokes and the Shins okay—but it really seems like the '90s indie bands beat the crap out of them.

i know you posted this a year ago but if you haven't listened to swans, they're one of the greatest and most underappreciated american bands.

this song is sheer class,as is everything they ever did, forget the look,it's the music what counts and ride are the best at the music.
