The original is pretty cool, but I think this cover is better. The incessant 80's synth background in the original is a bit grating.
I have also viewed this song as a commentary on the sleazy, creepy "girls, girls, girls/ fuck em and dump em" objectification that the Queensryche's contemporaries (Motley Crue/Scorpions/etc) were engaging in at the time.
really? I find this version objectively better, they own this song, it's quite impressive when a band takes a cover and owns the song, like Jimi Hendrix with All Along the Watchtower
@amary7940 That is usually 90% of the time, when it comes to original vs. the first version I hear. One example is Come on feel the noise by Quiet Riot vs. Slade. This was the last Queensryche album me and my mother would listen to, before she traded the Rock genre for Hiphop and Pophop crap these days. I myself am stronger in this genre still.
@drmattisinthehouse Wow, I didn't know Come on Feel the Noise was a cover. I was about to post a comment asking if you weren't thinking of Mama We're All Crazy Now (as I actually knew that was a Slade cover). But not being fond of the taste of my own foot (I'm safely assuming) I thought I better look it up first. But you're right, that was a cover too.
Tates' vocals and DeGarmos' understanding of symphonic orchestral music stand alone. Operation Mindcrime was the first operatic metal. Tate sings with such passion and emotion. Nothing Pink Floyd, Rush or Dream Theater did can compare to Rage For Order or Operation Mindcrime! Queensryche crushed everyone then, and now!
this is my first time responding this whatever anywho i'm a metalhead from way back so you newbees want to check out some not so familiar bands from the 80's try Loudness and Malmsteen and if you like black metal there's Grim Reaper and Celtic Frost I'm on my granddaughter site but this is O.G.Playa 101
Good lord! This side of Geoff is orgasm inducing. There is nothing they have done that I don't like, but this is just awesome. My absolute favorite Queensryche song.
It is a great song, but it isn't theirs. This is a cover. This was originally done by some Canadian chick called Dalbello back in 1984. They did do a great job covering it though. They put their own spin on it while still keeping the vibe of the song true to the original.

@dianemonteitn Similar, Eddie Vedder covering "Indio" (Hard Sun).
I'm sure Queensryche, respected Lisa Dalbello; simply by covering this song.
That's the ultimate part of musical respect: a cover. All good, I'm sure!

@dylanskriloff Absolutely, friend.
Rule #1 of Cover Tunes:
Never do it as well, or worse, than the original version.
If you perform it as well, you're just regurgitating someone else's art. If you do it worse, then you're butchering art. Simple enough, right?
Queensryche does, indeed, OWN this song. \m/

This version is great, but I like Dalbello's better. This is one is a bit too noisy...Dalbello's is so much more suggestive and subtle.

Operation Mindcrime is, IMHO, their best album. This, IMHO, might be their best song.
Rage for Order is a criminally underrated album.
