Not all stills cameras work with istopmotion. You can test your camera by selecting source > test stills camera. You can also see a list of user tested devices within the test stills camera settings

is this istopmotion 1 or 2? and also, i have a sony handycam dcr-hc30 or dcr-hc40 and i use a firewire but my istopmotion 1 doesn't show that anything is hooked up. i checked the firewire with imovie and it is functional so i don't know whats wrong. when i used the trial version of istopmotion it worked but it doesn't now that i have the full version of istopmotion 1
