It's current status aside, the word has an undeniably ugly history. So it's a bit bewildering that of all the words that could be chosen to address a confidant, it's the N word. I don't see it as censorship so much as a suggestion to find a better word to use... Why not 'buddy'? lol

It really depends on which African Americans you ask on the matter. Go to the inner city, you probably hear it all the time. Other than that, it's still considered demeaning regardless of who said it.

Simply put, deleting this word, or any word from our vocabulary is a step backward. "Nigga" is commonly used as a term of endearment by African Americans. It is also foolish for people to believe that a word is a cause for racism, and its deletion will help hinder racist beliefs and actions. Not only is it ridiculous to "delete" any word from a vocabulary, it will be quite impossible to do so due to its cultural ubiquity and positive, brotherly connotations in African American communities.
