i had this well idk wat it is but thet stuck a neddel in my side of my chest when i was 2 days old the scar has not gone away and its like a a zit and stuff comes out if u popit sort of an im now 15 an im stuck whit it forever
@swburton316 We have seen it in fish caught at all different depths, from 8 feet on down. The best thing to do is to observe the fish after it is caught, and if it has to constantly swim to stay down, it has a problem. It’s best to fizz it before it becomes exhausted and starts floating on the surface.
We would like to thank TPWD and their team of dedicated biologists, volunteer anglers, sponsors, and others for completing such a comprehensive research study of venting/fizzing techniques. We applaud your service to the angling community and truly appreciate the hard work and effort put in by all involved.
Excellent Video! Fish care is a priority with me and I've made a video on this subject as well. The only factoid I have issue with is the determination that 3-5 sec is anywhere enough to deflate a bass. For fish I've caught in 60-70ft I'd say several seconds of fizzing was required. The downside of underfizzing is the need to repeat the procedure, but over fizzing makes the fish sink.

Sometimes when i return fish instantly they float to the surface... Would this be because of Barotrauma?

@B001Five ..a fish that cannot swim will surely die.. i doubt that the DNR would be teaching this if it didnt help...

About how deep are these fish caught when barotrauma starts becoming a problem?

@TexasParksWildlife isn't that how you recognize the problem? You know, by seeing if its floating with a distended belly.
