Sweet creations, the problem I am a musician and musical instrument Hakki Sex Sbrano not good at mastering the time musician,. Enough time has taught me how perfected the music ..? (I'm a Saudi national * Saudi Arabia * military in the Saudi army.
Leo, why are you playing 5, 3, 1, 3 over the 1 and 2 chords, but playing 7, 5, 3, 5 on the 5th chord? Is this to distinguish the Major from the Dominant? Or an easier sound on the ear?
@jappleby25 I'm playing 7,5,3,5 becuase they are 6ths that fit in melodically with the other notes. Try not to think about it too much, its only through doing it that it starts to makes sense
Hi Leo,I´ve been playing the sax for about 20 years ; and I think I have a good sound some sax players have told me that, But what I really want to know is if you could come to my country for some clinics. I live in Honduras, Central America, We´ve loved to have your here
Hi, I'm a sax beginner, is it because of my incorrect blowing technique that sometimes when I try to make low notes they sound high even though I don't press the octave key?
It could be many things. Leaky instrument, mouthpiece, reed, what you are doing with your throat and you embouchure are all possibilities.. As a beginner you really need a teacher and some lessons. These videos are really for intermediate to advanced players. I hope this helps.
@Arnetsew Try opening your throat more to support the low note. This is very common for beginning saxophonists to have trouble with the low notes.
Also, don't put any more pressure on the reed than necessary to seal. The secret is in the throat. Open your throat as if you were singing a very low note.
Very nice idea for advanced players. One would have to have a good ear in order to identify a sixth (whether major or minor) interval in order for this exercise to be useful. With my students I prefer using perfect octaves, perfect fourths and perfect fifths. Write to me and I'll send you a copy so that you'll see what I mean. Good work!
All my exercises are for intermediate to advanced players. Beginners may also benefit. I chose the 6th only because it seems the most melodic interval to me and I am a melodic player. I can't claim the idea as my own though, JS Bach was my teacher in this regard. You may be right that a good ear is required but I believe a good ear is something that you train and this is certainly one way to train your ear, an added benefit I'd say.
Hi i'm a complete beginnner and i don't really know a lot so i was wondering if you could send them to me and any tips you have would be really helpful thanx you X
Tip number 1 for complete beginners is get a good teacher and stick with them. The tips on this youtube channel are not designed for beginners. A good teacher will help you advance your playing a lot further than trying to get stuff for free from youtube.
I am thinking of doing a video on building your chops (embouchure). Check back in a week or so. It won't be for beginners, I am offering intermediate to advanced ideas for sax players. But you may benefit. Basic rules for sore chops are 1. do a proper warm up on the middle register 2. try and extend the lower register over time 3. last of all comes high notes. But just try doing a warm up first. It will help. And get a good teacher.
Ummm... im not all advanced and stuff, but do you think you could do a video on embouchure for beginners. I have problems with that. My bottom lip hurts a lot because of my bottom teeth and I think its because of my embouchure. I play tenor (if your wondering).
what instrument should learn before learning the saxophone would be better? because my music teacher told me to learn something else first before the saxophone but i forgot what is it . could someone please tell me what is it ??? thx
Some people go straight to the saxophone. I learned to play all the different recorders and then flute and didn't start on the sax till I was 19. There is no right way. It depends on your teacher and your budget. All the best with the music.
Very interesting, your harmonic imagination is exactly what I'm looking for, related to Bach and the well tempered clavier in that tuning the registers is a dynamic process between the players sense and the instrument. Thanks.

I don't relate it to chords at all, but I do an exercise that runs through fourths that's kind of similar to this.
Dunno, figured I'd mention it.

Probably clarinet.
They usually will start you off on that, but my band director started me on tenor from the beginning, so...

You say 6ths, but the intervals are not all 6ths? Or are they? Can you explain where each 6th occurs please?
