  • Mario.... Lemieuuuuuuuuuuuuuux!

  • I SAW THIS GAME. I Believe this is the inspiration for the STATUE

  • @lquidlunch The goal from the statue was a 1988 goal vs the Islanders. The "unnamed" d-men are Richie Pilon and Jeff Norton.

  • The two dislikes come from the defenders Mario humiliated.

  • That would have been called goaltender interference in today's NHL...

  • "Look at Lemieux! Oh my goodness! What a goal! What a move! Lemieux!"

  • kony 2012

  • LEMIEUX SHOOTS AND SCORES. O CALL ARNOLD SLICK, FROM TURTLE CRICK !

  • 20 years later, still the best goal ever

  • HEEEEE BEAT HIM LIKE A RENTED MULE!!!

  • I remember watching this on old highlight when I was kid around '96 or something.. And the goal is still cool as hell! Wow

  • Sorry Gretzky....Lemiuex was better!

  • Minnesota had that rare moment of total dejection when you realize no amount of coaching or hours of practice prepare you to defend against something this special...Natural talent, speed, skill and anticipation trump all of that...

  • One of the greatest goals of all time.

  • this is unbelievable

  • simply the best!

  • does anybody know what the time on the clock and score of the game at that point

  • 22 years laters and I still love these old videos

  • Don't want to destroy any credit to lemieux but he didn't pass bobby orr and lindstrom...Chambers and Wilkinson lolll !!

  • @lonkylaine Lemieux's hands are the best ever

  • Truly the best

  • Отличный гол. В стиле Харламова.

  • Poor goalie... His body language screams: "What the?! What the?!?! What the ?!?!?!?"

  • Am I only the only one who cringed when Lemieux's skate went right into the goalies crotch.

  • Mario Lemieux could've broken Gretzky's records if it wasn't for Hodekin's Lymphoma

  • @MrHockeyScores Or any other injuries

  • he beat john casey like a reddened mule

  • @CPriceKSteeg310

I think the term is "rented" mule.

  • Wow the nerve of some people to dislike this video. Probably one of the best moves of a hockey player going through a defence-man. Such finesse.

  • I love how he took the puck on his backhand and behind him and never slowed down. That shit is not normal by any stretch.

  • My father played Mario in a tournament once in PeeWee AA. He said that Mario sat on the bench most of the game, and only had two shifts. In those two shifts he had six goals. The rest of the game he sat on the bench eating a poutine!

  • when you see something great...it inspires you to be great as well.

  • oh my heavens!!

  • I flagged this video for gay pornography because the North Stars got RAPED!

  • "One on two, pretty soon it's one on nothing, and pretty soon it's a goal."

Love Wayne Gretzky, but Mario Lemieux is something special.

  • wow

  • To this day, the greatest goal ever scored.

  • @otamrof13 Well, it's the greatest goal Mario's ever scored, at least. But I say it's only the 16th greatest goal ever scored!

  • love the announcer in this vid

  • @rpoole1987 ...and a Hockey Hall Of Fame announcer at that, the great Bob Cole, who is still doing games to this day for the one and only Hockey Night In Canada on CBC, right now he is at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ calling the Montreal Canadiens/New Jersey Devils game LIVE on CBC as I speak, still one of the best ever, along with the late greats Danny Gallivan, Fred Cusick, and Dan Kelly, and since I've been an L.A. Kings fan since 1975, the Voice Of The Kings Himself, Bob Miller,

  • History will be made.

  • rip, north stars

  • I just realized Lemieux not only had the best goals, but the best goal celebrations too. Nothing over the top, but just fitting.

  • One against the world, and he dekes the whole world.

    Timeless words.

  • Look at Lemieux! Oh my goodness! What a goal, what a move, Lemieux! Oh baby!*classic!

  • If someone told me to describe the perfect hockey player, it would be Mario Lemieux. His combination of size, strength, vision, hands and shot made him the greatest ever.

  • This call by Bob Cole makes me tingle where my swim suit goes.

  • One of the sickest thing I have ever seen in my life. 20 years later, I'm still marking out.

  • wicked mullet @ 0:22

  • Mario, at that moment in his career (at 100% health, in the Stanley Cup finals) was one of the most unstoppable athletes of all time.

  • Lemieux was UNCONTESTED. Players like Jagr, Ovechkin and Bure had to make 4-5 little dekes to get by defenders. Lemieux was on another level, he makes one deke and goes by MULTIPLE Defenceman. And I also lost my virginity watching this. O_o

  • Nothing was going to stop Mario from scoring that goal.

  • Lemieux was a master

  • Awesome

  • This was just an amazing goal. I loved watching Lemieux play.

  • Today 5/18/2011 is the 20th anniversary of this goal Lemieux scored in the Stanley Cup finals. Its as magical now as it was when I witnessed it live as a 12 year old.

A week or so later he lifted the Cup for the first time & solidified his greatness.

    Unbelievable!!!!!!

  • super mario could fly in his day

  • jingle jangle jingle jangle jingle jangle

  • That and the Rocket's Goal vs the Flamers in Game 7 are still my top two goals ever scored in playoff hockey....

Rocket for his pure breakaway speed from the redline and Mario for the grace and finesse of that play.....

    GOD, I love hockey...

  • Epic mullet at 21 seconds

  • What Goal What a Move Lemieux! OHHHH BaaaBBBYYY!!!!!!! This clip gives me Goose bumps.

  • Ive seen this goal played time and time again I didnt get to see these years because I was only 1 when the Penguins won their first stanely cup, but by the looks of it there was not one player on the North Stars that could defend Mario Lemieux

  • @PENS68 Ive had the privilege to watch him his whole career. It still amazes me to this day that there was a player THIS good. It is almost hard to believe that his magic happened. If there wasnt video, nobody would believe it kinda things. I miss the Big Guy

  • wow nice

  • He SHOOTS AND SCORES! Mario Lemeiux beats Casey, like a rented mule again!

  • When will bob Cole retire? Lol he's like the gordie howe of announcers

  • best goal ever

  • Lemieux shits on Crosby's game

  • Is that bob cole?

  • @91splash yea

  • @91splash Fuck yeah it is

  • @AK47Music lol gotta love his commentary

  • @91splash I indeed do, Bob Cole is STILL better than contemporary counterparts (from NBC Sports Network) Doc Emerick and (from TSN formerly with CBC) Chris Cuthbert, I miss him having Harry Neale and Dick Irvin in the HNIC booth for the Finals every year, no other coverage can even come close to CBC's superior coverage, something I miss about switching to Dish Network in 1997, and not having cable here in Port Townsend, WA and having CBUT channel 2 (CBC) in Vancouver on the channel lineup.

  • @AK47Music CBC Broadcasting is always great compared to NBC, CBC also has more rights to hockey then NBC, oh well Bob Cole and Retro Commentators FTW :D

  • I think the announcer summed up the goal perfectly! I couldn't have said it better myself! "Oh my goodness, what a goal! What a move! Lemieux! Oh, baby!"

  • bob cole wooooooooooooo

    never retire.

  • Pens suck.....NBC should hire Bob Cole since CBC is clueless.

  • I DO THAT ALLLLLLLLLL THE TIME.BUT THEN I WAKE UP

  • Lemieux > Crosby

  • @RacerPlanetZX1

don't you think it's a little early to be making that comparison?

  • @MrSeabass1991 Sorry, it's just how I see it right now. Although I respect how you see it.

  • A Pittsburgh goal his 13th of the playoffs scored by number 66 mario lemieuuuuxxxx

    John barbaro is the best

  • That call is legendary.

  • This guy is the fucking Mona Lisa on ice!

  • Words cant even begin to describe this goal!!!!!!

I see it, but I still can't believe it. WOW!!!!!!!

  • Harry Neal is amazing in this video. I wish colour guys today were half as poetic as him. He captured the moment and gave it the credit it deserves. Well done, Harry.

  • the greatest play in the history of the NHL.

  • 0:21 pretty nice mullet

  • Bob Cole and Harry Neale, how i miss those guys on HNIC

  • @lafond1H Me too

  • Nice goal, but that was some HORRIBLE defense. Could the d-men back up any more than they did? And they didn't play the body AT ALL. Instead, they tried to poke check the puck away LOL. Awful.

  • Penguins are the best!

  • Man I love the North Stars. I remember watching this when I was 7 - now we have such a gay name - the WILD

  • this goal makes my giney tingle

  • soooooo smooth as soon as he picks up the puck . . . pure liquid skating.

  • love it best goal ever

  • Just when Lemieux scores, you can hear Harry Neale in the background reacting in disbelief.

  • that defender was like

    "... wtf just happened?"

  • oh baby.

  • I was wondering why the left defenseman gave Lemieux so much space, then I realized he was probably covering Murphy. You think Lemieux anticipated that? Probably.

  • The best player that ever was.

  • @thesportsdude90 Mario did things at 60% that other players couldn't do when there were 100%. Remember that.

  • The other players will beat you, however Mario Lemieux will embarrass you. This video is proof of that.

  • this goal always gives me the chills!!

  • This guy's skill level was from another planet. His performance in the 91 and 92 playoffs is pretty much as good as it gets.

  • Comment removed

  • @Lookin2Cool he took THE game to new levels during 91 92 playoffs

  • Comment removed

  • "one against the world and he dekes the whole world" harry neale

  • The 91 Stanley Cup Finals was a battle between an overachiever and a great team

  • @FrsBigeasy That was quite the run that Minnesota put together that year though. Chicago, St. Louis (Brett Hull scored 86 goals that year) and Edmonton were all very good teams.

  • Poor Shawn Chambers

  • I always hear him say "What a mole!"

  • 66 thousand views pretty cool i was 66030 i wonder who was 66 thousaand exactly

  • Mike Lange is the man... Bob cole is very good though.

  • Bob Cole is the best play-by-play commentator in hockey and Harry Neale is almost as good have him but he is not a play-by-play commentator.

  • The most skilled player to ever play the game. The power, reach and physical presence of 6'4 250 pound man with the the hands, skating, finesse, and talent of a player who is 6'0 190. A true hockey god there has never been a player like him, him and gretzky are simply in a class of their own. Untouchable.

  • @moneyball69 I agree Mario is the most skilled player ever. But he wasnt 250 pounds. 220-230 tops playing weight. Im a huge Stars fan and I was 12 when this series took place. Pretty disappointed at the result. Especially that last game needless to say. But this goal was awesome.

  • The greatest goal ive ever seen in my entire life. Period.

  • No matter how great the goals are - Bob Cole makes it all the more magical!

  • @dariounited Bob Cole is a Maple Leafs homer who's past his prime. I'm pissed CBC put him on habs games instead of leafs games.

  • @dariounited absolutley!! I can't believe he's not doing more games now! Jim Hewston is a robot!!

  • "HERE'S LEMIEUX", Bob Cole knew something special was gonna happen

  • 0:08 Recchi gets dropped like a bad habit

  • Greatest Goal EVER.

  • Can someone tell me as to why this was not goaltender interference?

  • @Thorntonator19 if you look closely, the goalie put his leg in front of mario, who was turning his skates to the left, forcing him to trip.

  • @Lotsofpie2222

Lemieux was falling before touching the goalie, he was not tripped at all. But Lemieux liked to crash the goalie to help him score, he did that very often.

  • @Irato99 Oh c'mon, he had the goalie beat before he even touched him. Yup, Mario liked to take the puck to the net. Can't really deny that.

  • Lemieux ran into the goalie because the goalie came out at Lemieux. That's why it wasn't interference

  • @Thorntonator19 it's easy... Casey goes out of his cricle on one side to surprise Lemieux.

  • @Jo3mD

But I was taught to believe the goaltender must be allowed to make a play on the puck and cannot be made contact with...of course it was a different standard back then...

  • Great goal. Except Im a Stars fan so I didn't appreciate this goal as much as most people.

  • Unbelievable goal! Probably the best ever,

By the way, don't believe anything CanadaBoy says, Lemieux has never played a charity golf tournament in Toronto. Anyone who knows Lemieux knows he's one of the classiest athletes ever, on and off the ice. Unfortunately lots of people in Canada hate him because he was French-speaking and Canada Boy is obviously one of them.

    Shame on you little liar.

  • @midaszone Ya, ok. Islington Golf and Country Club, it was the Chrysler Celebrity Classic. He was the headline athlete there and he was paired with Dan Quinn, a former Penguin. Booyah!!!

  • @midaszone the gentle giant frensh canadian

  • Damn that had to hurt like hell when Lemieux drove his skate into the goalies testicles at 0:08. OUCH!!

  • Too bad Lemieux was a complete prick off the ice. I had the misfortune of working at a celebrity golf tournament in Toronto one summer that Lemieux was playing in. The rudest person I have ever met in my life.

  • @canadaboy9988 So you had a bad experience. It's hard to find a person in Pittsburgh who has done more for the community than him. You were probably bugging him, asking for an autograph or some bullcrap and he told you to leave him alone and now you gotta go spread your hate.

  • @canadaboy9988 Perhaps you're thinking of Claude Lemieux?

  • Amazing

  • that was sick baby. there has been no talent like him. the size, the speed, and the skill.

  • what a move what a goal!!!! size, skill, and grace...there has been no talent like lemeiux ever baby.

  • Sick! So Sick! I'll miss the old barn, lotta memories there.

  • One piece of crap who didn't like this?!!!

  • A 1-on-2 rush suddenly turns into undressing the goalie out of his jock strap. Unbelievable display of skill by Lemieux.

  • I think he was better then Gretzky if only he stayed healthy

  • @brmalo3 That's sure is possible but remember Gretzky wasn't in the best shape during his career either.

  • once he split the defenders the goalie had to have known he was getting scored on

  • did he just sack the goalie?

  • LOL to the person who said he was European hahahahah. He is Canadian thank you very much. What is Mario wasn't so SUPER.

  • @strker99 french canadian * :P from Québec :)

  • BEST player to ever play the game !

  • One of the most beautiful goals EVER! Super Mario just Rocks here!

  • dont go there, uuu nonononoooo

  • Ostie que c'est beau! Un produit 100% québecois!

  • i like lemieux, he plays like a true european star

  • @bordeauxjean CANADIAN STAR ! NOT european.

  • when he hit's the neutral zone he kicks it into another gear.that's vintage lemieux.his long stride makes skating look effortless.i thank god i got to see his whole career up close and in person on a regular basis.he made me a fan of the greatest game on earth at the age of 6...thanks big guy!!!

  • Theres only 3 people in the whole rink he didnt deke, and two of them were ushers

  • bob cole just made that goal so much better

  • one of the best goals ever

  • An awesome goal, but watch the video again and look at just #5 on the North Stars -- what terrible effort!

  • sickest goal ever!!

  • best commentary "look at lemeiux, ohh my goodness what a goal what a move" gotta love it

  • @BetterDayz02

Yes. Bob Cole is/was a great play caller. He's getting older now and only works occasionally. but ya..... he makes you enjoy the game that much more

  • beastmode

  • this is probably the best goal ever... i know the ovechkin over the head one handed one is sick too, but this is truly truly the best goal

  • Unlike that one, this isn't a lucky goal on a goalie way out of position. All skill.

  • most greatest goal of all time! even watch him how he takes the shitty pass in his own end!

  • I enjoy listening to Harry Neale wax poetic on this goal.

  • Casey had a couple good playoff runs

    this was one of them
