Some routers also support mac address assigned ip so you don't have to worry about dhcp interference.

@iCadyx I just checked my router and i noticed it as well. But for some reason, my WAN is all 0 and I actually have a LAN ip address. I suggest trying with your LAN first and see if that works

I need to portforward for terraria but i can't find the right private ip adress.

I did find the other ip that everyone can see.

But for portforwarding i need the private one. Do you know where to find that ip on windows 7?

@ethahew different games require different ports to be open. Black ops might require different ones to MW2

@ethahew Blackops requires ports 3074, 22728 & 33233 to be opened. MW2 and Cod4 both require only 3074 so by portforwarding black ops you'll also have opened the require ports for MW2 and Cod4 but if you haven't port forwarded any ports or only done it for MW2 you may only have port 3074 open, so you'll need to go into your router and add some additional settings.

I just wanted to thank you woody. My gaming set up is now an xbox and ps3 connected to my modem with an ethernet cable, both consoles are operating on an open NAT type now. It might be a placebo affect but my gaming experience is so much better now. THANK YOU!

@MirnesGaming it depends on your router, but you may find it on your router settings page, "Port Forwarding" tab, not sure, for me its "Virtual Server" tab, just keep searching for it on your router settings page

@Lagold10 Wow, did you even watch the video? That is probably because you setup the right ports to your xbox's or ps3's IP, vut sometimes your IP will change so the ports don't do the trick anymore. Solution: Static IP

@kingomar7332 He said if you were connecting you Xbox or Ps3 directly to your modem, you wouldn't have a NAT issue. If you use a router you may have some issues. I have my xbox connected directly to my cable modem and have no issues.

This is kinda weird. On Xbox, the NAT type has always been open (talking about Black Ops, we don't have any other games for the Xbox yet), but on the PS3 the NAT type was moderate. So, no we've changed some stuff and the NAT on the PS3 is open, but on Xbox it's now moderate. What can we do about it, Woody?

I have a connection issue which really limits my ability to play black ops as everytime i try move i just get spazzed and then connection interupted. Now this only happens when i play with a certain friend, i dont know why it does it, and why it only does it when i play with him, and when he goes offline and the rare occasion im still either playing or if i come on the next day and he isnt online, I still lag like a bitch, until i reset my router, can someone tell me how to fix this?

I have a open NAT but for some reason I always get 2 bars. I have a 7 mpbs download and a .93 upload. That is what my PS3 says. So the connection is good. I also get host often. But even when I have host I still lag. I either get host or a 2 bar.

I heard there was something you can do to make the host not affect you. I thought it was called port forwarding but apparently it not that. Basically what I mean is that when you are shooting someone, you don't have to go to the host and then the enemy

Use the DHCP reservation on your router setup page!!

Do that so you don't have to risk your router assigning the ip to another device.

Also, if u activate it, set the mode to DHCP on your xbox. Hope this helps!!

if i have a strict nat type on xbox i go to my dashboard- system settings- network settings- wired or wireless- test xbox live connection and it always changes my nat type to open. THUMBS UP IF IT WORKS FOR YOU SO IT CAN HELP OTHER PEOPLE :D

turns out you can actually use your laptop (mac or pc) as a router to your xbox via Ethernet cable and still be able to use your laptop to its fullest capabilities including internet, although using both at the same time might take up too much assigned bandwidth. anyway DONT buy the expensive wireless adapter you can replace it with your laptop easily.

It's not like someone has neither and must decide which to buy then goes ahead and buys the laptop solely because it can be used to connect to xbox live, thats just dumb.
